Miami Dolphins Week 2 NFL Power Rankings Roundup

Throughout the 2020 NFL season, we will compile a consensus NFL Power Rankings that averages the rankings of all 32 NFL teams.

Here is where the Miami Dolphins rank in terms of average, best and worst:

  • Average ranking: 29.4 (31st)
  • Best ranking: 27th (USA Today)
  • Worst ranking: 31st (Multiple)

Below you will find a Week 2 roundup for the Dolphins in our consensus 2020 NFL Power Rankings.

The Athletic -- Rank: 31

What we learned: The quarterback questions will grow louder. Ryan Fitzpatrick threw three interceptions, although to be fair, only two were his fault. At this time last year, the Dolphins were in the middle of a big rebuild. But this offseason, they were big spenders in free agency. The thought seemed to be that if they could stay competitive with Fitzpatrick, maybe they could sneak into the playoffs. If not, they would move on to Tua Tagovailoa. It was only one game, the Patriots man coverage was smothering, and Fitzpatrick is streaky. But with more performances like that, the thought of moving on to the rookie will become increasingly tempting for Brian Flores.

CBS Sports -- Rank: 30

The offense didn't generate much against the Patriots, which begs the question: How much longer before it's Tua time?

USA Today -- Rank: 27

First impression of 2020? They're a lot better at making videos addressing social injustice than they are at playing football.

ESPN -- Rank: 28

Best rookie debut: LT Austin Jackson
Protecting Ryan Fitzpatrick's blind side, Jackson played a strong game neutralizing the Patriots' front and not allowing a sack all day. In fact, the whole offensive line allowed just one sack that Fitzpatrick ran into late in the game. Jackson, the No. 18 overall pick, faced questions about his strength and NFL readiness coming into the draft but quieted those concerns with a good debut. The game didn't look too big for him or fellow rookie starting right guard Solomon Kindley. The Dolphins have offensive issues to fix, but if left tackle isn't one of them, that's a big win. -- Cameron Wolfe

NFL.com -- Rank: 31

Moral victories mean squat in the NFL, but I'll say this: The Dolphins were trailing by three points with 10 minutes to play in Sunday's opener at Foxborough. That's progress from a year ago at this time, when we exited September thinking the Dolphins might be the worst team in NFL history. Ryan Fitzpatrick wasn't given much of a chance against New England's tough secondary, and the calls for rookie Tua Tagovailoa will only grow louder if the 16th-year veteran continues to stack interceptions. With DeVante Parker nursing a hamstring injury, this offense will need a spark. Adding Tua to the mix in some capacity could provide it.
