Pittsburgh Steelers Week 3 NFL Power Rankings Roundup

Throughout the 2020 NFL season, we will compile a consensus NFL Power Rankings that averages the rankings of all 32 NFL teams.

Here is where the Pittsburgh Steelers rank in terms of average, best and worst:

  • Average ranking: 5.8 (5th)
  • Best ranking: 4th (Multiple)
  • Worst ranking: 11th (ESPN)

Below you will find a Week 3 roundup for the Steelers in our consensus 2020 NFL Power Rankings.

The Athletic -- Rank: 5

What we learned: They can win ugly. The Steelers had a botched handoff on their first offensive play against the Broncos. Ben Roethlisberger threw a bad interception in the second half, and the Broncos dropped another potential pick. Benny Snell added a fumble. And while the defense looked dominant at times, the Broncos were 15 yards away from taking a lead with Jeff Driskel with under two minutes left. Games like this tend to happen over the course of a 16-game season, so there's no reason for the Steelers to panic. But they will need to be a lot better than they were in Week 2 to compete with the elite teams in the AFC.

CBS Sports -- Rank: 4

They didn't quite dominate the way I expected against the Broncos - especially with a backup quarterback playing for Denver. They have to play better against the good teams.

USA Today -- Rank: 5

Keep an eye on rookie WR Chase Claypool, whose 84-yard TD reception Sunday is 2020's longest play to date and the longest by a Canadian-born player.

ESPN -- Rank: 11

Under-the-radar fantasy standout: WR Diontae Johnson

It's hard to call Johnson under the radar when he was a trendy sleeper pick before the season. He is inconsistent and has started games slowly; but he has eight receptions on 13 targets, and he led the Steelers with 92 receiving yards against the Broncos. If Johnson becomes a bona fide WR1 in fantasy, keep an eye on Chase Claypool to develop into the next under-the-radar asset. Claypool has been targeted five times and has five catches -- including an 84-yard touchdown against the Broncos. -- Brooke Pryor

NFL.com -- Rank: 4

The Steelers represent a pick-your-poison situation for opposing defenses right now. Second-round pick Chase Claypool had an 84-yard touchdown against the Broncos and has been an instant difference-maker through two weeks. Diontae Johnson is on his way to a big season, and JuJu Smith-Schuster has his mojo back after a 2019 that fizzled behind injuries and poor QB play. Which takes us to Ben Roethlisberger, who missed most of last season but somehow managed to return as exactly the same player he was before his right elbow imploded. No acclimation period necessary for Large Benjamin. The Steelers are scary.
