The Athletic -- Rank: 13
What we learned: They were conservative offensively with a high percentage of early-down run plays. This is not how Byron Leftwich called games last season with Jameis Winston. The Buccaneers were having trouble in protection, and Tom Brady threw a pair of interceptions. But their defense played better than the final numbers suggest. Tampa had the ball down seven at the start of the fourth quarter, but LeSean McCoy got run over in blitz pickup, and Brady took a sack. Later, the Buccaneers muffed a kickoff return. There were always going to be some bumps along the way, but it was surprising to see the 2020 Buccaneers look like the 2019 Buccaneers.

So much for the idea the new-look Bucs would waltz to a playoff berth. They have a lot of work to do on both sides of the ball.

QB Tom Brady, who's thrown a pick-six in three straight games, is currently, um, on pace to break Jameis Winston's single-season record (7 in 2019).

Winfield recorded six combined tackles, a pass breakup and a QB pressure. His 66 snaps were fourth most in the league among rookies on defense and he helped the Bucs limit Latavius Murray and Alvin Kamara to a combined 64 rushing yards. "He's smart, he's heady, he makes plays and he makes you trust him," defensive coordinator Todd Bowles said of Winfield. "He just goes out and plays football." -- Jenna Laine

The Tom Brady era got off to a sputtering start as the Bucs played far too sloppy a game to beat a loaded Saints team in full Super Bowl-or-bust mode. Brady had two turnovers, one on a miscommunication with Mike Evans and the other thrown behind Justin Watson and intercepted by Janoris Jenkins for a score. Brady lamented his "terrible turnovers" afterward, but he wasn't all bad in his first game away from Bill Belichick. Brady looked comfortable running the offense and accounted for three TDs (two passing, one rushing). Bucs fans may feel let down with a bad case of pick-six deja vu, but they still remain in very capable hands.
