The Athletic -- Rank: 23
Below expectations: I may be repeating myself, but I wish I loved anything as much as Matt Nagy loves giving Cordarrelle Patterson the ball in short-yardage situations. Nagy has been unable to find a way to get anything even resembling competent quarterback play from Mitchell Trubisky and Nick Foles. That's led to an offense that lacks an identity and ranks 28th in efficiency. The run game has been a disaster, and the offensive scheme features too much cutesy, horizontal nonsense that ultimately nets 3- or 4-yard gains. Nagy gave up play-calling, and the truth is their quarterback situation might just be impossible to overcome, but he's shown no signs of being able to get the Bears to outplay their talent.

The Bears have dropped five straight and desperately need a victory to keep their fading playoff hopes alive. Losing Sunday's game to the Lions at home would be the ultimate embarrassment after Detroit just fired coach Matt Patricia and general manager Bob Quinn. The Lions clearly are bracing for another rebuild. The Bears might be on the same road unless they snap out of it over the final five games and do enough to save Matt Nagy's and Ryan Pace's jobs. -- Jeff Dickerson

New/old quarterback, same old results. The Bears were blown out by the Packers on Sunday Night Football, but don't be too quick to put all the blame on Mitchell Trubisky. The beleaguered former first-round pick mixed some good with some bad, but it was the defense that failed to be competitive in Chicago's latest prime-time dud. Aaron Rodgers torched the secondary for four touchdowns, while the RB tandem of Aaron Jones and Jamaal Williams blew through half-hearted tackle attempts all night long. It was the defense that powered Chicago during its 5-1 start, but Chuck Pagano's group has been unable to lift the team during its five-game losing streak. Matt Nagy could be coaching for his job over the final five weeks.
