San Francisco 49ers 2021 NFL Mock Draft Roundup, 5.0

Throughout the year and leading up to the 2021 NFL draft, we will update our San Francisco 49ers Mock Draft Roundup showing picks for the San Francisco 49ers from several prominent sites and draft analysts.

The following are picks in recent mock drafts for the 49ers:

NFL.com - Zierlein (2/4)

12. Trey Lance, QB, North Dakota State

Lance could go higher with a run on quarterbacks. If he's available at 12th overall, he might be too enticing to pass up. His background and skill set fit perfectly within Kyle Shanahan's offense.

NFL.com - Brooks (2/1)

12. Jaycee Horn, CB, South Carolina

Horn possesses the size, athleticism and bloodlines (son of former Pro Bowl WR Joe Horn) to be a tenacious cover corner and enticing option for a team in desperate need of a long-term answer at the position.

Akron Beacon Journal - Kadar (2/1)

12. Kwity Paye, EDGE, Michigan

The 49ers are in a potentially tough spot with their pass rushers. Nick Bosa will be returning from a torn ACL. The team also has a difficult decision to make with veteran Dee Ford. That could lead the 49ers to a pass rusher like Paye. He can stand up or play with his hand down and would really shore up San Francisco's edge rush.

The Ringer - Kelly (1/31)

12. Kwity Paye, EDGE, Michigan

The Niners should get both Nick Bosa and Dee Ford back from injuries next season, but that pass-rush group still needs more depth. Paye adds just that: He's big, explosive, and physical, and would give San Francisco yet another pocket-disrupting menace off the edge.

USA Today - Davis (1/28)

12. Patrick Surtain II, CB, Alabama

The Niners will need to replenish their corner depth chart with the contracts of Richard Sherman, Jason Verrett, K'Waun Williams and Ahkello Witherspoon all set to expire. Even if they were sticking around, Surtain -- son of the former Pro Bowler whose name he shares -- would be a worthy selection following a season when he was named SEC defensive player of the year

ESPN - Kiper (1/26)

12. Patrick Surtain II, CB, Alabama

The 49ers will likely undergo big changes on defense this offseason, with defensive coordinator Robert Saleh gone and cornerbacks Richard Sherman, Ahkello Witherspoon and Jason Verrett all unrestricted free agents. That's why it makes sense to target a corner early. Surtain, my top-ranked corner, could be a starter on Day 1. He had 27 pass breakups and four interceptions over three seasons at Bama. At 6-2, Surtain has the size and speed to play on an island and lock down wideouts. Depending on whether San Francisco can bring back free-agent left tackle Trent Williams, offensive line could also be a position to target.

NFL.com - Jeremiah (1/22)

12. Kyle Pitts, TE, Florida

Don't freak out, people! I know the Niners already have an elite tight end. However, they have embraced the positionless-player movement, and Pitts would team up with George Kittle, Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk to give Kyle Shanahan an embarrassment of riches.

Baltimore Sun - Doon (1/22)

12. Jaylen Waddle, WR, Alabama

Good luck stopping an offense with George Kittle, Deebo Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk and Waddle catching passes. Coach Kyle Shanahan still needs to find his franchise quarterback after Jimmy Garoppolo regressed in an injury-hampered season, but adding playmakers all over the field is the best way to give whoever is throwing the ball a chance to succeed.
