Houston Texans 2021 Post-Draft NFL Power Rankings Roundup

Throughout the 2021 NFL season, we will compile a consensus NFL Power Rankings that averages the rankings of all 32 NFL teams.

Here is where the Houston Texans rank in terms of average, best and worst:

  • Average ranking: 31.8 (32nd)
  • Best ranking: 31st (NFL.com)
  • Worst ranking: 32nd (Multiple)

Below you will find a post-draft roundup for the Texans in our consensus 2021 NFL Power Rankings.

ESPN -- Rank: 32

Player who benefited most from draft: RB David Johnson

While the Texans have three veteran running backs on their roster, none are under contract past the 2021 season. The Texans had already signed Phillip Lindsay after they had restructured Johnson's contract but by not drafting a running back, Houston didn't add another player who could take carries away from Johnson. Johnson was the Texans' lead running back last season and ran for 691 yards and six touchdowns on 147 carries in 12 games. -- Sarah Barshop

NFL.com -- Rank: 31

The Texans are floating in space. Talent poor and asset deficient, with an unhappy superstar quarterback who demanded a trade before serious legal troubles changed the conversation around him in a disturbing way. Given that uncertainty, you can understand why Houston used its first draft pick -- 67th overall -- on Stanford quarterback Davis Mills. No matter how Deshaun Watson's off-the-field issues play out, the Texans understand they have to plan for life without their best player. The fact that they have to use their highest draft pick on the only position they had figured out ... well that's just the cherry on top of a melted sundae.

CBS Sports -- Rank: 32

The situation with Deshaun Watson has them down here at the bottom. Nobody can predict if he will play or be suspended or be back. If he doesn't play, they are clearly the worst team in the league -- by far.

USA Today -- Rank: 32

For a team with so many questions, new GM Nick Caserio somehow managed to create more during the draft ... while predictably sidestepping meaningful answers to any of them.

The Athletic -- Rank: 32

Deshaun Watson's future in the NFL is uncertain, but the Texans' ranking here assumes that he will not be their starter in 2021. From Bill O'Brien to Jack Easterby, Texans fans have often been ahead of the curve in criticizing the team they root for. They deserve better than this identity-less, directionless franchise.
