Chicago Bears Week 9 NFL Power Rankings Roundup

Throughout the 2021 NFL season, we will compile a consensus NFL Power Rankings that averages the rankings of all 32 NFL teams.

Here is where the Chicago Bears rank in terms of average, best and worst:

ESPN -- Rank: 23

Biggest Achilles' heel: Offense

The Bears' defense collapsed in last Sunday's loss to the 49ers, but Chicago's offense has been its biggest Achilles' heel throughout the season. The Bears rank at the bottom or near the bottom of almost every major offensive category, including points per game and yards per game. It really says something when scoring 22 points -- as the Bears did versus San Francisco -- is considered an offensive explosion. The Bears' offense played a little better in Week 8, but it's nowhere close to good enough. -- Jeff Dickerson

NFL.com -- Rank: 24

Justin Fields couldn't get the Bears a win on Sunday, but the rookie made significant gains in a 33-22 loss to the 49ers. The first-round pick threw a touchdown pass and went over 100 yards rushing for the first time as a pro, the highlight being an incredible 22-yard scoring run on a play that would have left most QBs in a heap 5 yards behind the line of scrimmage. The defense left much more to be desired. Playing without Khalil Mack, Chicago surrendered seven straight scoring drives to the Niners, including three touchdowns in the second half. Matt Nagy -- who missed Sunday's game due to a COVID-19 designation -- won't make it to January with too many more efforts like that.

CBS Sports -- Rank: 25

Justin Fields is getting better - at least running it. That's progress behind a bad line. He faces a tough Steelers team this week.

USA Today -- Rank: 21

It had been 13 years since an NFL team didn't net 200 passing yards in any of its first eight games. Until now.

The Athletic -- Rank: 24

How's the head coach? Well, Matt Nagy (COVID-19 protocols) wasn't there on Sunday, and the Justin Fields-led offense looked more coherent so ... that's not great for the head coach. Fields threw for 175 yards and ran for another 103 (plus scored twice), but the Bears might need to give him a shot on defense, too, because that unit rolled over for San Francisco. With the Steelers and Ravens next up on the schedule, the Bears are in danger of being 3-7 headed into a Thanksgiving date with Detroit.
