New York Jets Week 12 NFL Power Rankings Roundup

Throughout the 2021 NFL season, we will compile a consensus NFL Power Rankings that averages the rankings of all 32 NFL teams.

Here is where the New York Jets rank in terms of average, best and worst:

  • Average ranking: 30.8 (31st)
  • Best ranking: 30 (USA Today)
  • Worst ranking: 31 (Multiple)

Below you will find a Week 12 roundup for the Jets in our consensus 2021 NFL Power Rankings.

ESPN -- Rank: 31

Most vibrant Thanksgiving memory: The Butt Fumble in 49-19 loss to the Patriots on Nov. 22, 2012

It's a no-brainer: The Butt Fumble -- and it goes beyond the slapstick nature of the play. The play came to symbolize a dysfunctional period in the Jets' history. A few weeks after the play, Sanchez was benched, and it effectively ended his run as the Jets' starting quarterback. After the season, also remembered for the failed Tim Tebow experiment, GM Mike Tannenbaum was fired. He was replaced by John Idzik, whose relationship with holdover coach Rex Ryan eventually turned toxic. In some ways, the franchise hasn't recovered from the Butt Fumble, the disastrous 2012 season and its fallout. -- Rich Cimini

NFL.com -- Rank: 31

The Jets are losing every week, but let's focus on the positive: The 2021 draft class has a chance to be a real winner. Elijah Moore went off for 141 yards and a touchdown against the Dolphins and is now living up to the training camp hype. Michael Carter is a keeper at running back and Alijah Vera-Tucker has been a quality starter at guard. Of course, the true measure of the class will come down to whether Zach Wilson is the real deal at quarterback. If Wilson returns from injury and has a promising finish to his rocky rookie year, we might remember this class as a Joe Douglas masterpiece that changed the direction of a previously lost franchise.

CBS Sports -- Rank: 31

When Zach Wilson is ready, he needs to play. Forget about the other quarterbacks and build for the future.

USA Today -- Rank: 30

Their last divisional win came in 2019 ... meaning they've lost 10 straight against AFC East.

The Athletic -- Rank: 31

Best side dish: It's taken a few months, but we're finally getting to see what the training camp hype about rookie receiver Elijah Moore was all about. He had his best game as a pro against Miami, with eight catches for 141 yards and a touchdown. The Jets' quarterback position has been, well, shaky, but getting Moore more involved will help Zach Wilson or whoever is throwing the passes.
