Buffalo Bills Week 17 NFL Power Rankings Roundup

Throughout the 2021 NFL season, we will compile a consensus NFL Power Rankings that averages the rankings of all 32 NFL teams.

Here is where the Buffalo Bills rank in terms of average, best and worst:

  • Average ranking: 6.6 (7th)
  • Best ranking: 6 (Multiple)
  • Worst ranking: 7 (Multiple)

Below you will find a Week 17 roundup for the Bills in our consensus 2021 NFL Power Rankings.

ESPN -- Rank: 7

Non-QB MVPs: S Jordan Poyer/Micah Hyde

This is slight cheating, but neither Poyer nor Hyde could really win this award on his own. Wide receiver Stefon Diggs also was in consideration, but the league's No. 1 pass defense in a variety of categories is anchored by the safety duo. Poyer and Hyde are the only safety tandem in the NFL with at least five interceptions each this season. They are individually tied for the fourth-most interceptions in the NFL this season and have combined for 19 passes defensed (10 Hyde, 9 Poyer). The argument could be made that Poyer deserves this award on his own, but it's the pair who make this defense work. -- Alaina Getzenberg

NFL.com -- Rank: 7

In the biggest moment of their season, Josh Allen delivered a superstar performance. The quarterback threw three touchdown passes, including the game-clincher on a 75-yard drive in the fourth quarter, to lead the Bills to a massive 33-21 win over the Patriots in Foxborough. Buffalo now is in control of its own destiny: win the next two weeks, and the Bills repeat as AFC East champions. It wouldn't have been possible without Allen, whose elite abilities with his arm and legs allowed Buffalo to move the chains at critical junctures and score touchdowns when it appeared the Patriots were ready to make their move. He's a franchise quarterback in every way.

CBS Sports -- Rank: 6

Winning at New England the way they did sends a message to the NFL that they are back. Josh Allen was outstanding.

USA Today -- Rank: 7

They host Atlanta and the NYJ to close the regular season -- meaning it's awfully likely Buffalo hits the postseason with a four-game winning streak and the AFC East crown as had been the master plan all along.

The Athletic -- Rank: 6

Is he The Guy? Yes. Josh Allen is the new Superman (sorry, Cam), able to leap linebackers and punch a hole through defenses with lasers. Does he miss some throws? Sure. Superman wasn't known for having a gentle touch, either. Probably the second-scariest quarterback for opposing defenses to study on film, other than Patrick Mahomes.
