Kansas City Chiefs Post-Draft NFL Power Rankings Roundup

Throughout the 2022 NFL season, we will compile a consensus NFL Power Rankings that averages the rankings of all 32 NFL teams.

Here is where the Kansas City Chiefs rank in terms of average, best and worst:

  • Average ranking: 5 (5th)
  • Best ranking: 3 (Multiple)
  • Worst ranking: 8 (USA Today)

Below you will find a post-NFL Draft roundup for the Chiefs in our consensus 2022 NFL Power Rankings.

ESPN -- Rank: 8

Player who benefited most from draft: DE Frank Clark

The Chiefs selected edge defender George Karlaftis in the first round, but the depth chart at defensive end remains thin after the Chiefs declined to draft another player at the position. So Clark, even after accepting a pay cut to avoid being released, looms as a key figure for the Chiefs. Unless Karlaftis has a big rookie season or the Chiefs get unexpected help elsewhere, the Chiefs need a big season from Clark to help revive their pass rush. -- Adam Teicher

NFL.com -- Rank: 4

We thought the Chiefs would get aggressive in pursuit of one of the more hyped wide receivers in this year's class, but Kansas City instead hung back as six wideouts came off the board in the first 18 overall picks. Brett Veach used the team's two first-round picks to fill obvious needs on defense (CB Trent McDuffie, Edge George Karlaftis), before addressing wideout in Round 2 with Western Michigan speedster Skyy Moore. Moore joins Marques Valdes-Scantling and JuJu Smith-Schuster as the new faces in the receiver room, but will they be enough for Patrick Mahomes after Tyreek Hill took his magic act to Miami? K.C. still has work to at that position.

CBS Sports -- Rank: 7

Trading Tyreek Hill changes things on offense, but they will again be in the mix because of Patrick Mahomes. They added some nice defensive pieces in the draft as well.

USA Today -- Rank: 3

Kind of the AFC's version of the Packers, making needed defensive upgrades rather than heaping outlandish expectations on a first-round wideout to replace Hill. (But second-round gem Skyy Moore could do a lot of damage in Hill's stead.)

The Athletic -- Rank: 3

Life comes at you fast. Offseason changes mean just three offensive players from 2019's Super Bowl-winning roster remain with the Chiefs: quarterback Patrick Mahomes, tight end Travis Kelce and receiver Mecole Hardman. We are so curious to see what coaches Andy Reid and Eric Bieniemy are scheming up for version 2.0 of the Mahomes offense now that Tyreek Hill is gone.
