Kansas City Chiefs Post-Draft 2023 NFL Power Rankings Roundup

Throughout the 2023 NFL season, we will compile a consensus NFL Power Rankings that averages the rankings of all 32 NFL teams.

Below you will find a post-draft roundup for the Kansas City Chiefs in our consensus 2023 NFL Power Rankings.

ESPN -- Rank: 1

Most improved: Edge

The Chiefs replaced veterans at or near the ends of their respective careers (Frank Clark and Carlos Dunlap) with two much younger players (free agent Charles Omenihu and first-round draft pick Felix Anudike-Uzomah) who have big potential.

Omenihu and Anudike-Uzomah joins a group that already included former first-round pick George Karlaftis and Mike Danna to give the Chiefs depth at these positions.

NFL.com -- Rank: 1

Last year, the Chiefs traded away an all-time great at wide receiver in Tyreek Hill ... then won the Super Bowl anyway. Andy Reid and general manager Brett Veach continued their WR-room rebuild on Friday with the selection of SMU playmaker Rashee Rice. (Quick aside: Could there be a more euphoric feeling for a receiver prospect than getting a call from Patrick Mahomes' team on draft night?) Rice enters the picture a year after Skyy Moore was taken in the second round and six months after the trade-deadline acquisition of Kadarius Toney. All three players need to make their mark: 103 catches and 1,230 yards went out the door with Mecole Hardman and JuJu Smith-Schuster leaving in free agency.

CBS Sports -- Rank: 1

They have some changes on their offensive and defensive lines, but as long as Patrick Mahomes is slinging it and Andy Reid is coaching it, they will be fine. The defending champs open in the top spot.

USA Today -- Rank: 1

Barring extenuating circumstances — and none here — when you've got the league's best player in MVP Patrick Mahomes and the Lombardi Trophy, you're in the top spot until events warrant otherwise. Make no mistake, this team has been appreciably altered since winning Super Bowl 57 ... but it also seemed to be in concerning transition a year ago but was ultimately the better for it.

The Athletic -- Rank: 1

Draft takeaway: For the second straight year, the Chiefs used a second-round pick on a wide receiver they hope will boost Patrick Mahomes' weaponry. Since taking Tyreek Hill in the fifth round of the 2016 draft, the Chiefs have selected six wide receivers, three of them in the second round, hoping for one to pop. Maybe Rashee Rice will be the one who does.

Hype man: (Points at ring finger)

Drue Downer: We might be able to come out of the NFC with Blaine Gabbert at quarterback, but it's gonna be hard as hell to win the AFC this season.

PFF -- Rank: 1

The Chiefs released Frank Clark and lost starting offensive tackles Orlando Brown Jr. and Andrew Wylie in free agency. However, their signings of tackle Jawaan Taylor and edge defender Charles Omenihu mitigate those departures.

The Chiefs had a solid draft, adding an elite edge defender and other targets for quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Anudike-Uzomah produced PFF grades of 74.0 or better in each of his past two seasons, and 21 of his 89 pressures over the past two seasons resulted in a sack.

PFT -- Rank: 2

Most wins in the last four seasons, including playoffs: KC 62, Buffalo 51, Green Bay 49. Eleven more wins than any team since 2019 qualifies as a wow. Andy Reid, as usual, has work to do, after losing left tackle Orlando Brown, leading wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster and speed receiver Mecole Hardman in free agency.
