Buffalo Bills Week 5 NFL Power Rankings Roundup

Throughout the 2023 NFL season, we will compile a consensus NFL Power Rankings that averages the rankings of all 32 NFL teams.

Below you will find a Week 5 roundup for the Buffalo Bills in our consensus 2023 NFL Power Rankings.

ESPN -- Rank: 3

Biggest issue on defense: Absence of CB Tre'Davious White

On Monday, coach Sean McDermott announced that the former All-Pro cornerback is out for the season with a torn right Achilles suffered in the team's win over the Miami Dolphins. White was "beginning to really round into form," as McDermott said, coming off a torn ACL in November 2021 that required a year of recovery before he could return to a game. Now the question for the Bills is how the younger players on the roster -- notably Dane Jackson and 2022 picks Christian Benford and Kaiir Elam -- can perform over the course of a long season. -- Alaina Getzenberg

The Bills turned an early shootout against the Dolphins into a boat race. The four-touchdown margin of victory was yet another reminder that when the Bills are on, they are as tough to stop as anyone out there. When the defense faltered early, the offense picked up the slack -- to the point where it wasn't clear whether Josh Allen or Tua Tagovailoa operated the most explosive group. By the end of the statement victory over Miami, it was fair to say Buffalo's defense had turned in an excellent effort. That's how good teams are built, knowing the heavy lifting won't always be evenly split. That Week 1 loss to the Jets suddenly feels like a distant memory, and over the next seven weeks, the Bills face one team that currently owns a winning record (Tampa Bay in Week 8). Could this team be 10-1 when it visits Philadelphia in Week 12?

CBS Sports -- Rank: 4

They looked dominant in blowing out the Dolphins. The defense has really impressed so far this season, especially in terms of the pass rush. Josh Allen is playing like an MVP again.

USA Today -- Rank: 2

Sunday was a timely reminder that they're the NFL's best home team (26-6) since 2020, and they could very well be at Highmark Stadium deep into January. Unfortunately, if that's true, they'll have to again make due without CB Tre'Davious White, now lost to an Achilles injury.

The Athletic -- Rank: 3

Now we get to the chaos. The Bills' only loss of the season is to the New York Jets. Since then, they have won three in a row by 28 or more points. The only team to do that four straight times was the 1942 Chicago Bears. Quarterback Josh Allen, whom The Athletic's Nate Tice has dubbed Professor Chaos, has an NFL-best 76.1 percent completion rate, eight touchdown passes and one interception in the last three weeks, but Sunday's star was Dolphins nemesis Stefon Diggs, who had six catches for 120 yards and three touchdowns. In nine career games against Miami, Diggs is averaging 83 receiving yards per game, according to TruMedia.

FOX -- Rank: 2

If not for a Josh Allen meltdown in Week 1, this would be the hottest team in football. After all that talk about a 70-point game, the Bills hung 48 on the Dolphins and held Miami to just six points after halftime. We know Allen is capable of these superhuman days, but what a performance by the defense to make the Dolphins look vulnerable. Tua Tagovailoa was sacked more times Sunday than in his previous three games combined.

Yahoo! -- Rank: 2

The Bills are really, really good and we lost track of that amid the Dolphins hoopla. The underrated strength of the team is the pass rush, which showed up in a big way on Sunday. And just think, Von Miller should return soon.

PFT -- Rank: 5

The Jenga tower has fully stabilized.
