Week 12 Fantasy Football TE Waiver-Wire Rankings

Every week, we examine players that may be available on your league's waiver wire that could help your team in the short and/or long term.

For a player to be listed, he must be owned in 50 percent (or less) of Yahoo! leagues. The goal is to provide recommendations of players that have a greater chance of being available on your league's waiver wire. Of course, your league's size and settings could significantly impact whether these players (or better options) are available in your particular league(s).

With that said, here are some tight end waiver-wire options to consider heading into Week 12 (Yahoo! % rostered in parenthesis):

[Note: Players listed below are sorted by our preference to add.]

1. Jordan Reed, San Francisco 49ers (15%)

While the team is "hopeful" that Deebo Samuel will return in Week 12, Reed is still one of the team's top-three targets along with Brandon Aiyuk and Samuel. In the game before the bye, Reed had five catches for 62 yards on six targets. Given the landscape at the tight end position, a 62-yard scoreless outing was good enough to finish as fantasy's TE6 in Week 10.

With George Kittle (foot) likely out for the rest of the season, Reed will continue to operate as a high-end TE2/low-end TE1 the rest of the way as long as he can stay healthy. The next four opponents -- LAR, BUF, WAS and DAL -- are either neutral or favorable matchups for the tight end position.

2. Robert Tonyan, Green Bay Packers (46%)

Heading into Week 11, Tonyan had four quiet performances (4.8 fantasy points or less) in the previous five weeks. Despite a difficult matchup against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 11, Tonyan caught all five of his targets for 44 yards and a touchdown. Tonyan's remaining five games between now and Week 16 feature four teams -- Bears, Eagles, Panthers and Titans -- among the top 11 most-generous fantasy defenses.

3. Dalton Schultz, Dallas Cowboys (21%)

Outside of studs at the position like Travis Kelce, Darren Waller and Mark Andrews, nobody is setting the world on fire. Neither is Schultz.

Over his past three games, however, Schultz has a minimum of four catches and six targets per outing. During that span, he has a total of 14 catches on 21 targets for 126 yards and a touchdown.

The Cowboys have two favorable (top-10) matchups over the next three weeks that includes Washington Football Team on Thursday and the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 14.

Fantasy Football Week 11 TE Waiver Wire Rankings

Every week, we examine players that may be available on your league's waiver wire that could help your team in the short and/or long term.

For a player to be listed, he must be owned in 50 percent (or less) of Yahoo! leagues. The goal is to provide recommendations of players that have a greater chance of being available on your league's waiver wire. Of course, your league's size and settings could significantly impact whether these players (or better options) are available in your particular league(s).

With that said, here are some tight end waiver-wire options to consider heading into Week 11 (Yahoo! % rostered in parenthesis):

[Note: Players listed below are sorted by our preference to add.]

1. Logan Thomas, Washington Football Team (35%)

Thomas entered the season as a sleeper and pardon the corny joke, but he's starting to wake up. Thomas had four catches for a season-high 66 yards on six targets in Week 10. The former quarterback now has both of his 60-yard games this season over his past three games.

While he's had some of his better performances of the season recently, Thomas has been steady throughout the year. Thomas has a minimum of four targets in every game and ranks ninth among the position in targets (52) through Sunday's games.

Over the next two weeks, Washington faces the Cincinnati Bengals and Dallas Cowboys. The Bengals have allowed the second-most fantasy points per game to opposing tight ends and Thomas had 4/60/1 against the Cowboys in Week 7.

2. Jordan Reed, San Francisco 49ers (19%)

With George Kittle out, Reed should be a big factor in the passing offense down the stretch if he can stay healthy. While his first game back (one three-yard catch in Week 9) was a disappointment, Reed was more involved and productive in Week 10 with five catches for 62 yards on six targets. Only Brandon Aiyuk (seven) had more targets this week. Reed and the 49ers have a Week 11 bye.

3. Dalton Schultz, Dallas Cowboys (16%)

Since losing Dak Prescott for the season, the offense has been a shell of its former self and will continue to be a bottom-half unit for the rest of the season. One positive for Schultz, however, is that he had a total of 15 targets in the past two games, which he converted into 10 catches for 101 yards. Coming off the team's bye, the next four games feature positive matchups.

Fantasy Football Week 3 TE Waiver Wire

Every week, we examine players that may be available on your league's waiver wire that could help your team in the short and/or long term.

For a player to be listed, he must be owned in 50 percent (or less) of Yahoo! leagues. The goal is to provide recommendations of players that have a greater chance of being available on your league's waiver wire. Of course, your league's size and settings could significantly impact whether these players (or better options) are available in your particular league(s).

With that said, here are some tight end waiver-wire options to consider heading into Week 3 (Yahoo! % rostered in parenthesis):

[Note: Players listed below are sorted by my preference to add.]

1. Logan Thomas, Washington Football Team (32 percent)

The Week 2 performance (4/26) may have disappointed, but Thomas had another high-volume day in terms of his targets. After being targeted eight times (26.67% share) in Week 1, Thomas saw nine targets (27.27% share) in Week 2. Through Sunday's games, only Travis Kelce (20) and Dallas Goedert (17) have as many targets as Thomas (17) among tight ends.

In addition, Thomas gets a favorable matchup in Week 3. No team has allowed more fantasy points per game to opposing tight ends (half-PPR scoring) than the Browns through Sunday.

2. Jordan Reed, San Francisco 49ers (7 percent)

With George Kittle sidelined, Reed blew up for seven catches, 50 yards and two scores on eight targets. Reed has had plenty of success with Kyle Shanahan in the past and as long as he's healthy (a big if), he has plenty of upside when Kittle is out. That said, the early optimism is that Kittle will be able to return in Week 3.

3. Mo Alie-Cox, Indianapolis Colts (percent)

Trey Burton is on IR, which keeps him out for at least one more week, and it's unclear if Doyle will be able to return in Week 3. Alie-Cox capitalized on his expanded opportunity in Week 2 with five catches for 111 yards on six targets. Double-digit favorites over the Jets in Week 3, the Colts are projected to score 26.75 points based on implied totals from Week 3 Vegas odds, the sixth-most for the week.

4. Dalton Schultz, Dallas Cowboys (2 percent)

The team expected Blake Jarwin to be a major contributor in the passing game after letting Jason Witten walk, but now it's the season-ending injury to Jarwin that has created an opportunity for Schultz. In his first start, Schultz had the best game of his young career as the Cowboys threw it 49 times to overcome a 20-0 first quarter deficit. Both Amari Cooper and CeeDee Lamb exceeded the 100-yard mark, but it was Schultz that led the team in targets (10) and finished with nine catches for 88 yards and a touchdown. Schultz should be viewed as a TD-dependent TE2 going forward.

Washington Redskins 2019 Fantasy Football Projections

In addition to viewing our 2019 Fantasy Football Projections by position, we will post our preseason projections per team.

Below you will find our 2019 fantasy football projections for the Washington Redskins.

QUARTERBACKS

PlayerAtt.Comp.YardsTDINTRushYardsTDPoints
Dwayne Haskins352.1207.72535.112.328.82248.40.44140.56
It's unclear if Haskins will start Week 1, but it's fairly obvious that he'll start the majority -- if not all -- of the games as a rookie. For now, I've conservatively estimated his starts at 10. Unlike 2018 rookies that had fantasy success (Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson), Haskins is unlikely to make many plays with his legs to give him fantasy relevance (outside of 2-QB leagues) as a rookie.
Case Keenum177.4113.51206.36.214.081868.40.7276.09
With Washington getting their guy at No. 15, Keenum may still get a few early-season starts, but it's unlikely that he holds on to the starting gig for long.

RUNNING BACKS

PlayerAtt.YardsTDRec.YardsTDPoints
Derrius Guice179.9773.65.420.4148.90.41127.11
An ACL injury wiped out Guice's rookie season. Early reports were that Guice's rehab was coming along slower than expected, but Gruden said it was "ahead of schedule." Given how productive Adrian Peterson was last season, it's unlikely that the team rushes Guice back into the mix. I expect the 2018 second-rounder to lead the team in rushing and workload, but AP should be heavily involved in 2019 as well.
Adrian Peterson114.9465.32.875.847.60.1769.53
A surprise 1,000-yard rusher in 2018, Peterson has his sights set on something he did earlier in his career -- rush for 2,000 yards. As unlikely as it is that he (or any running back) rushes for 2,000 yards in 2019, it's certainly possible that he exceeds (the more realistic) expectations that others have for him.
Chris Thompson41176.30.8241.7325.32.0967.62
Playing just 10 games in back-to-back seasons, health will be key for Thompson, but he had finished as a top-30 PPR back in both 2016 and 2017. In fact, he was PPR's 11th-best running back on a per-game basis in 2017. If he can stay healthy, he'll have a chance to return flex value in PPR formats.
Bryce Love2292.40.444.636.30.0916.05

WIDE RECEIVERS

PlayerRec.YardsTDRushYardsTDPoints
Trey Quinn55.86253.0713.80.0181.36
With Jamison Crowder now a Jet, it's Quinn's job to lose as the team's slot receiver and it wouldn't be a surprise if the second-year wideout led the team (or at least the wide receivers) in targets.
Josh Doctson42.9570.63.6500078.96
Even if listed as the team's No. 1 wide receiver, the former first-round pick has been disappointing enough that the team declined his fifth-year option (2020). With 500-something yards in back-to-back seasons, it's unlikely that number is much better in 2019.
Paul Richardson38.5519.83.2714.50.0172.11
Signing a free-agent deal with Washington after a 44/703/6 season in Seattle, Richardson (shoulder) played in just seven games and posted a 20/262/2 stat line in 2018. Neither Doctson nor Richardson inspire much confidence despite being the top-two outside receivers on the team's depth chart.
Terry McLaurin27.53631.9300047.88
McLaurin is fast (4.35 forty) and played with Dwayne Haskins at Ohio State. That said, the third-rounder is unlikely to make a significant year one impact.
Kelvin Harmon17.9239.91.6100033.65
Not expected to slip to the sixth round of April's draft, Harmon (6-2, 221) has the potential to move his way up the depth chart before season's over.

TIGHT ENDS

PlayerRec.YardsTDRushYardsTDPoints
Jordan Reed58.5596.74.100084.27
Missing the final three games of the season, Reed has now missed multiple games in all six of his NFL seasons. Even though he stayed healthy for the first 13 games of the year, he wasn't great when he was on the field either. The TE12 (TE9 in PPR) through Week 14, Reed had 54 catches for 558 yards and two touchdowns last year. If he's able to stay healthy-ish (like last season), there's the potential for him to lead the team's pass-catchers in receiving.
Vernon Davis28.4366.41.8500047.74
Given Reed's durability track record, the 35-year-old Davis is likely to be the team's starting tight end in multiple games in 2019. Davis had just 25/367/2 last season, but he had a combined 1,231 yards over the two seasons before that.

Week 2 Fantasy Football: Tight End Start'em, Sit'em

Ultimately, the decision of which player to start is largely determined by the composition of your roster (as well as your league's settings).

As an example, George Kittle is listed below as a "start" for Week 2. And I'd feel comfortable going into Week 2 with him as my starting tight end.

That said, he may be a sit for your team.

In other words, if you owned both Travis Kelce and Kittle, you should start Kelce -- and in turn, bench Kittle.

So while you won't find absolute start-sit recommendations below (use my Week 2 Fantasy Football Rankings for that instead), the goal here is to highlight some players that I like (and would feel comfortable starting) as well as some players that I dislike for this week (and would prefer to keep on my bench).

Week 2 Fantasy Football TE Start'em

TE - George Kittle, San Francisco 49ers (vs. DET)

Things could have gone better (i.e., he dropped a wide-open would-be touchdown), but Kittle exceeded expectations in a difficult matchup on the road against the Vikings. While the Vikings allowed the fewest fantasy points to opposing tight ends in 2017, Kittle had five catches for 90 yards to finish as a top-six performer last week.

Not only is the matchup more favorable this week, but the 49ers will be without top wide receiver Marquise Goodwin. Of course, that boosts the outlook for Pierre Garcon and the team's other receivers, but it also could lead to an extra target or two for Kittle. Either way, I have Kittle ranked inside my top-five fantasy tight ends for Week 2.

TE - Jared Cook, Oakland Raiders (at DEN)

While Amari Cooper and Michael Crabtree both had disappointing 2017 seasons for the Raiders, Cook led the team in both receiving yards (688) and 20-yard receptions (10) last season. The (second) Gruden era didn't get off to a great start with the team's 20-point home loss, but Cook was one of the bright spots. The historically up-and-down performer led the team with nine catches for 180 yards. In fact, his 180 yards is tied with Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas for the league lead heading into the weekend. At a minimum, Cook is a viable start for Week 2 even if he doesn't have another 100-yard game.

TE - Jordan Reed, Washington Redskins (vs. IND)

When healthy, there is no denying the talent. Of course, he's often not healthy as Reed has missed four-plus games in four-of-five NFL seasons. That said, he's healthy now and the Washington tight end finished Week 1 with four catches for 48 yards and a touchdown. In a favorable matchup against the Colts, the Redskins are projected to be a top-five scoring offense based on implied totals from Week 2 Vegas odds.

Week 2 Fantasy Football TE Sit'em

TE - Cameron Brate, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (vs. PHI)

With the injuries to Delanie Walker and Greg Olsen and the relative weakness at the position in general, there aren't many notable names to include on the sit'em side at the position. Going into the season, however, I expected Brate to have an opportunity to be a high-end TE2. Following his Week 1 dud where Ryan Fitzpatrick threw for 417 yards and four touchdowns (and Brate had an 0-for), he currently sits at TE29 in my rankings. Even though I have teammate O.J. Howard outside my top-12 tight ends, I'd prefer the second-year tight end over Brate for Week 2.

TE - Charles Clay, Buffalo Bills (vs. LAC)

Like Brate, Clay is a player that could have flirted with high-end TE2 production and that still may happen. Given the state of the Buffalo offense, however, it's hard to trust any of the skill-position players outside of LeSean McCoy. Like Brate, Clay finished with a 0/0/0 stat line on two targets in Week 1. If you lost Walker or Olsen, there may still be better options available on your league's waiver wire than Clay in terms of Week 2 outlook.

TE - Will Dissly, Seattle Seahawks (at CHI)

It was a great NFL debut for the fourth-round rookie. In their loss to the Broncos, Dissly had three catches for 105 yards and a touchdown on five targets. As typically happens, that led Dissly's one-percent Yahoo! ownership (before waivers cleared) to increase to 29-percent ownership as of Saturday morning. If you're one of the owners that contributed to that +28% ownership increase, you should keep Dissly on your bench. Based on implied totals, the Seahawks are projected to be one of seven teams to score fewer than 20 points this week.

Alex Smith545.3362.6389922.98.250.3221.31.31.2258.69
Setting career highs, Smith threw for 4,042 yards and 26 touchdowns while adding 355 rushing yards last season. Not only was 2017 the first time he finished as a top-12 fantasy quarterback, Smith finished as fantasy's QB3 last season. Now in Washington, he takes over for Kirk Cousins, who has finished as a top-eight fantasy quarterback in each of the past three seasons. Since Gruden coached Andy Dalton (QB5) in 2013 as well, he's now coached a QB to a top-eight fantasy finish in four of the past five seasons.

Running Backs

Chris Thompson78.7369.92.252.4455.93.71.8114.38
The injury to Derrius Guice could open up more early-down opportunities for Thompson as well, but he will continue to handle the majority of the team's third-down snaps. Missing the final six games of the season, Thompson had 294 rushing yards, 39 catches for 510 yards and a total of six touchdowns through 10 games. Through Week 11 (his last game played), Thompson was the RB12 (RB10 in PPR) in fantasy football scoring.
Robert Kelley118448.43.75.131.60.3072
Washington added 33-year-old Adrian Peterson on a one-year deal. Based on Peterson's performance last season, it's possible that Kelley (or Perine) handles most of the early-down work still with Derrius Guice on IR.
Adrian Peterson80.8290.93.1754.60.1151.75
Playing a total of 10 games -- four with New Orleans and six with Arizona, it was a disappointing season for the future first-ballot HOFer. In his age-32 season, Peterson averaged just 3.4 YPC. With Derrius Guice (ACL) out for the season, however, there is a chance that Peterson gets sufficient early-down work to become fantasy-relevant in 2018.
Samaje Perine83307.12.45380.20.449.31
Perine is dealing with an ankle injury that is expected to keep him sidelined for at least week. Once the season begins, it's unclear how the work will be allocated between Perine, Kelley and Peterson on early downs.

Going into his third season, Doctson has generally underwhelmed but he led the team with six receiving touchdowns last season. Head coach Jay Gruden recently said that Doctson won't put up "eye-popping stats," but that Doctson will be "most dangerous" in the red zone.

Regardless of why he slipped to the middle of Round 2, Guice is arguably the second-most talented running back in this year's rookie class. While Guice should dominate touches on first and second down, coach Jay Gruden comments about the rookie's pass-catching skills — "it's been very exciting" — is encouraging.
Chris Thompson61.2287.61.753.3463.73.71.8103.93
Even if Guice is more involved than expected as a receiver, Thompson should handle the majority of the team's third-down snaps. Missing the final six games of the season, Thompson had 294 rushing yards, 39 catches for 510 yards and a total of six touchdowns through 10 games. Through Week 11 (his last game played), Thompson was the RB12 (RB10 in PPR) in fantasy football scoring.

Jamison Crowder75.3926.24.96.627.70.11.8121.79
Dealing with a lingering hamstring issue last season, Crowder says he "feel[s] great now." Crowder finished with a 66/789/3 line last season, but Smith and Crowder have demonstrated early rapport that could lead to a true breakout with good health.
Josh Doctson46.7616.46.50000.1100.44
Going into his third season, Doctson has generally underwhelmed but he led the team with six receiving touchdowns last season. Head coach Jay Gruden recently said that Doctson won't put up "eye-popping stats," but that Doctson will be "most dangerous" in the red zone.

Jordan Reed67.5688.56.10000.4104.65
If he ever puts together a 16-team season, Reed has the potential to lead all tight ends in fantasy points. Unfortunately, he has missed at least four games in four of his five NFL seasons including 10 missed games last season. In his healthiest season (14 games in 2015), Reed had a monster 87/952/11 line.

Alex Smith532.3354383322.97.550.5222.21.31.2257.54
Setting career highs, Smith threw for 4,042 yards and 26 touchdowns while adding 355 rushing yards last season. Not only was 2017 the first time he finished as a top-12 fantasy quarterback, Smith finished as fantasy's QB3 last season. Now in Washington, he takes over for Kirk Cousins, who has finished as a top-eight fantasy quarterback in each of the past three seasons. While I don't expect a top-eight season for Smith, there is certainly some upside compared to his current ADP.
