What we learned: This year is going to be fun. It might not have felt like it to Bengals fans early Sunday evening after the Green pass interference call and the Bullock miss. Cincinnati made a bunch of mistakes, which is to be expected from a young team with a rookie quarterback. Joe Burrow missed Green wide open for a potential 31-yard touchdown. John Ross let a Burrow TD pass slip through his hands. Burrow threw an ill-advised interception late. But that last drive was exciting -- especially with Kevin Harlan on the call. Burrow calmly moved the Bengals down the field with the poise of a 10-year veteran. Theres plenty to work on, and maybe the Bengals wont win a lot of games, but Burrow makes them fun and relevant.

Joe Burrow didn't win his first game as starter, but he did some good things and should have had a game-tying drive were it not for a missed field goal. He has a short week to get ready for the Browns.

Best rookie debut: QB Joe Burrow
Burrow almost wins this by default considering no other rookie played a significant role in Week 1. Burrow was 23-of-36 passing for 193 yards, one interception and one rushing touchdown. The resolve the rookie showed was the most impressive part of his debut. On Cincinnati's last drive, Burrow was 8-of-11 for 70 yards and came close to throwing a game-winning touchdown to A.J. Green. Burrow looked like a rookie but displayed traits that indicate he could be as good as advertised. -- Ben Baby

Joe Burrow looked like, well, a rookie in his NFL debut. He gave himself a D grade after the 16-13 loss to the Chargers, citing a touchdown-costing overthrow of a wide-open A.J. Green and a shovel pass that turned into a disastrous Melvin Ingram interception in the final quarter. But Burrow also did some nice things, like a 23-yard scoring run on a designed draw and a composed drive down the field in the final minute that was ruined when Randy Bullock shanked a chip-shot field goal that would've tied the game. Burrow's rookie season will be filled with these ups and downs, but you get the feeling he'll continue to improve as the season progresses. The Bengals have every reason to be optimistic.
