Cleveland Browns Week 2 NFL Power Rankings Roundup

Throughout the 2020 NFL season, we will compile a consensus NFL Power Rankings that averages the rankings of all 32 NFL teams.

Here is where the Cleveland Browns rank in terms of average, best and worst:

  • Average ranking: 25.8 (25th)
  • Best ranking: 23rd (The Athletic)
  • Worst ranking: 30th (USA Today)

Below you will find a Week 2 roundup for the Browns in our consensus 2020 NFL Power Rankings.

The Athletic -- Rank: 23

What we learned: Freddie Kitchens might still be in the building. Reportedly, the Browns fired Kitchens and moved on to Kevin Stefanski. But the 2020 Browns sure looked like the 2019 Browns. Are we sure that Kitchens didnt orchestrate some elaborate scheme where hes stolen Stefanskis face and is still coaching the team? Sort of like a 2020 version of Face/Off? The Browns first two possessions resulted in turnovers. There was a sequence in the second where Odell Beckham Jr. was called for a face-mask penalty, Baker Mayfield was nearly intercepted, the Browns gave up a sack, and then they were called for a delay of game. That set up a third-and-41! Poor Browns fans.

CBS Sports -- Rank: 25

What was that in the opener? They looked awful against the Ravens and face a short week to turn it around against the Bengals.

USA Today -- Rank: 30

No AFC team scored fewer points this weekend or surrendered more. That type of discrepancy just doesn't square with Cleveland's talent.

ESPN -- Rank: 26

Best rookie debut: LT Jedrick Wills Jr.
Cleveland's first-round pick played relatively well in his debut, protecting the blind side of QB Baker Mayfield, who called his protection "great all day long" despite the 38-6 loss. Wills, however, had to leave the game in the second half with a leg injury. -- Jake Trotter

NFL.com -- Rank: 25

The Browns made a lot of changes this offseason, but the on-field results remain the same. Cleveland failed to be competitive in its opener at Baltimore, outclassed on both sides of the ball in a blowout loss. The defense slowed down the Ravens' famed running game, but Lamar Jackson had no problems picking apart the Browns' secondary for three touchdowns. Things were even more distressing on the other side of the ball, where Baker Mayfield finished with an ugly 4.8 yards per attempt (the dreaded Gabbert Zone) and Odell Beckham Jr. finished with 22 yards on 10 targets. So far, the Kevin Stefanski era looks a lot like the Freddie Kitchens era.
