Cincinnati Bengals Week 3 NFL Power Rankings Roundup

Throughout the 2020 NFL season, we will compile a consensus NFL Power Rankings that averages the rankings of all 32 NFL teams.

Here is where the Cincinnati Bengals rank in terms of average, best and worst:

  • Average ranking: 28.0 (28th)
  • Best ranking: 26th (Multiple)
  • Worst ranking: 31st (ESPN)

Below you will find a Week 3 roundup for the Bengals in our consensus 2020 NFL Power Rankings.

The Athletic -- Rank: 30

What we learned: The Joe Burrow to A.J. Green connection needs work. To be fair, this might be mostly about the 32-year-old Green, although it's premature to draw conclusions after two games. What we do know is that Burrow went 3-for-13 for 29 yards when targeting Green in Week 2. Over the last three seasons, there have been 175 instances of a quarterback targeting a player at least 13 times in a game. None produced fewer yards than Green did in Week 2. The Bengals have been entertaining and competitive through two games, but they still have a flawed roster. The offensive line isn't good enough, and the defense has issues. But in terms of what might be fixable, increased efficiency between Burrow and Green is probably near the top of the list.

CBS Sports -- Rank: 26

They lost to the Browns, but they have to be thrilled with what they have in Joe Burrow. He is going to be a star.

USA Today -- Rank: 26

And maybe there should be a hue and cry to bench Joe Burrow given the "protection" he's getting ... otherwise, rook is off to a stellar individual start.

ESPN -- Rank: 31

Under-the-radar fantasy standout: TE Drew Sample

C.J. Uzomah was turning into a surprisingly viable fantasy target before he suffered a season-ending Achilles injury. Look for Sample to take Uzomah's spot and take advantage of a more varied passing attack with rookie quarterback Joe Burrow. Last year, the Bengals didn't have a player rank in the top 25 in average points per week in standard or PPR leagues. Uzomah was in the top 15 and averaging 11.4 points in PPR scoring through the first two weeks. -- Ben Baby

NFL.com -- Rank: 27

The good on Thursday night was Joe Burrow, who didn't blink in his prime-time debut and kept the Bengals in the game by continuing to march the offense for four quarters. Burrow didn't throw an interception across an astounding 61 attempts -- that's unheard of for a rookie making his second career start. Things are less promising on the other side of the ball, where an offseason of investment has not panned out to this point. Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt devoured a Cincinnati run defense playing without Geno Atkins and Mike Daniels. The pass rush wasn't much better: Baker Mayfield was pressured on just three attempts, per Next Gen Stats.
