New York Jets Week 3 NFL Power Rankings Roundup

Throughout the 2020 NFL season, we will compile a consensus NFL Power Rankings that averages the rankings of all 32 NFL teams.

Here is where the New York Jets rank in terms of average, best and worst:

  • Average ranking: 32.0 (32nd)
  • Best ranking: 32nd (Multiple)
  • Worst ranking: 32nd (Multiple)

Below you will find a Week 3 roundup for the Jets in our consensus 2020 NFL Power Rankings.

The Athletic -- Rank: 32

What we learned: It can get keep getting worse. The defense gave up an 80-yard touchdown on the first play from scrimmage and later allowed a 55-yard run on third-and-31. Adam Gase's offense ranks 31st in EPA per snap. Early in the game, he ran the ball on third-and-3 from the Jets' 48, and after Frank Gore got stopped, Gase punted. Later, he kicked a field goal from the 49ers' 7 down 24-3 late in the third quarter. Each week brings new disappointment, and it feels like Gase is in his fifth season as Jets head coach even though it's somehow only year two.

CBS Sports -- Rank: 32

This is going to be a long season for this group. There isn't enough talent. How long does Adam Gase get to turn it around?

USA Today -- Rank: 32

Despite facing San Francisco's JV squad much of Sunday, New York showed scant fight in performance that should leave NYJ fans disheartened.

ESPN -- Rank: 32

Under-the-radar fantasy standout: RB La'Mical Perine

This is way under the radar, but the rookie running back is expected by team insiders to grow into a prominent role. Don't be surprised if it happens soon. With Le'Veon Bell (hamstring) on IR for two more games, it's Frank Gore and Perine -- and we all know Gore isn't the future. Perine has the explosiveness the Jets desperately need, and he should start to get more carries. -- Rich Cimini

NFL.com -- Rank: 32

Another embarrassing effort by the Jets, this time failing to be competitive at home against a 49ers team ravaged by injuries. Raheem Mostert went 80 yards untouched on the first play from scrimmage. Later -- after both Mostert and Jimmy Garoppolo exited with injuries -- the 49ers picked up 55 yards on a halfback toss on third-and-31. You get the picture. Sam Darnold is helpless playing with a ragtag collection of receivers who would struggle for playing time in the XFL. Adam Gase is lucky no fans are allowed in the Meadowlands this season.
