The Athletic -- Rank: 27
What we learned: Vic Fangio could use a hand with clock management. With the Titans driving late for the game-winning score, Fangio decided not to use any of his three timeouts. Derrick Henry had a 13-yard run with 1:28 left that put the Titans at the Broncos 16 yard line. The Titans had three timeouts at that point. The clock was not going to be an issue for them. As for the Broncos, they were going to need time to come back if the Titans scored. On Tuesday, Fangio accepted blame for his mistakes. Ill never understand why head coaches dont outsource clock management to a specific staffer rather than insist on doing it on their own. Fangio did not give his team the best chance to win Monday night.

It wasn't pretty against the Titans, but they hung around against a good team. The offense needs to generate more points.

Even without OLB Von Miller, Denver may actually live or die with a defense that should make a jump in second year under Vic Fangio.

Best rookie debut: C Lloyd Cushenberry III
Wide receiver Jerry Jeudy had flashes of his vast potential but also had two key drops in the game, including one that could have gone a long way to seal an upset win. Cornerback Michael Ojemudia was tossed into the deep end of the pool when A.J. Bouye left the game because of a shoulder injury and held up well. But Cushenberry, against a stout Titans front, held up well on a night when quarterback Drew Lock wasn't sacked. The Broncos like Cushenberry's smarts and athleticism, and both were on display for much of the evening. -- Jeff Legwold

The Broncos' aggravating 2019 trait of blowing games in the final minute reared its ugly head again on Monday night, and Vic Fangio played his part. The coach's decision to pocket his three timeouts during the Titans' go-ahead field-goal drive in the final minutes of regulation served as an egregious clock-management error that put Drew Lock and the offense in a hopeless situation. In fact, stopping the clock would have had multiple benefits, seeing as how a tired Denver defense probably could have used a breather -- or even a simple break to regroup -- as Tennessee marched 83 yards on 12 plays. It's a tough loss, made more frustrating by the fact that Denver had already benefited enormously from a prime-time meltdown by Titans kicker Stephen Gostkowski. The Broncos aren't good enough to turn away charity.
