Denver Broncos Week 3 NFL Power Rankings Roundup

Throughout the 2020 NFL season, we will compile a consensus NFL Power Rankings that averages the rankings of all 32 NFL teams.

Here is where the Denver Broncos rank in terms of average, best and worst:

  • Average ranking: 24.2 (25th)
  • Best ranking: 23rd (NFL.com)
  • Worst ranking: 26th (The Athletic)

Below you will find a Week 3 roundup for the Broncos in our consensus 2020 NFL Power Rankings.

The Athletic -- Rank: 26

What we learned: They've gotten crushed by injuries. Drew Lock is expected to be out three to five weeks with a shoulder injury. Wide receiver Courtland Sutton is out for the season. The Broncos already lost Von Miller for the year and were playing without cornerback A.J. Bouye and and running back Phillip Lindsay. And they're already 0-2. Denver played hard against the Steelers and advanced all the way to the Pittsburgh 15 late in the fourth quarter needing a touchdown to take the lead, but the Jeff Driskel-led offense couldn't punch it in. Barring something unforeseen, the playoffs are unlikely, and this season should be about finding out what they have in Lock after he returns from injury.

CBS Sports -- Rank: 24

With Drew Lock out 2-6 weeks with a shoulder injury and Courtland Sutton done for the year, it's not pretty right now for the Broncos. It's all about building to the future.

USA Today -- Rank: 24

They've caught bad breaks on injury front. But QB Jeff Driskel is no slouch and could keep Denver competitive while Drew Lock nurses his bum wing.

ESPN -- Rank: 24

Under-the-radar fantasy standout: TE Albert Okwuegbunam

Hey, you said under the radar, right? Broncos TE1 Noah Fant certainly isn't under the radar -- he is second on the team in targets -- but the two-tight-end look has been Denver's best personnel grouping, and given the pass protection troubles, it's going to have to use it more. Okwuegbunam hasn't played yet because of a hip injury, but when he does, he figures to be a red zone factor, and he should enjoy the potential to have a very high percentage of his catches go for touchdowns. -- Jeff Legwold

NFL.com -- Rank: 23

Sunday's game against the Steelers began with Drew Lock connecting with Courtland Sutton on a pretty back-shoulder throw for a toe-tapping reception along the sideline. It ended with Lock in a sling and Sutton limping to an MRI exam to confirm a season-ending ACL tear. Football can be cruel. Given the calamitous injury luck, Vic Fangio's team deserves credit for hanging tough on the road against an excellent Steelers team. Still, 0-2 is 0-2, and now backup QB Jeff Driskel will be called upon to keep the season afloat against Tom Brady and the Bucs in Week 3. Something tells us John Elway is not a fun person to be around right now.
