Throughout the year and leading up to the 2021 NFL draft, we will update our Jacksonville Jaguars Mock Draft Roundup showing picks for the Jacksonville Jaguars from several prominent sites and draft analysts.
The following are picks in recent mock drafts for the Jaguars:
EDSFootball - Hanson (1/15)
1. Trevor Lawrence, QB, Clemson
Losers of 15 consecutive games, the Jaguars leave 2020 as the winners of the Trevor Lawrence sweepstakes. Believe it or not, Jacksonville has never owned the rights to the top pick despite picking inside the top 10 in all but one draft since 2008.
Lawrence, the presumptive top pick for several years, is arguably the best quarterback prospect since Andrew Luck and this will be an easy decision as the team transitions into a new era. Including the opportunity to draft a franchise-changing quarterback at the top of the draft, the Jaguars have a total of nine picks through the first five rounds in addition to a league-high available cap space in 2021.
25. Jaycee Horn, CB, South Carolina
The Jaguars have allowed opposing offenses to complete 69.4% of their pass attempts, average 8.1 yards per pass attempt and 6.4% TD%, all three of which ranked bottom three in the NFL last season. Horn, son of former Pro Bowl receiver
Joe Horn, excels in press-man coverage due to his size, physical playing style and a competitive demeanor.
San Diego Union Tribune (1/13)
1. Trevor Lawrence, QB, Clemson
Lawrence is the pick regardless of who the Jaguars hire as a head coach or general manager. The rebuild will get a boost with three other picks in the top 50. The Heisman runner-up is a good start and a much better building block than
Blake Bortles or
Blaine Gabbert.
25. Samuel Cosmi, OT, Texas
Cam Robinson is a free agent and Cosmi is likely an upgrade anyways. You can't develop a young quarterback if you don't have a decent offensive line. It's science. Cosmi dominated in 26 games at right tackle. He did the same at left tackle this season.
CBS Sports - Trapasso (1/13)
1. Trevor Lawrence, QB, Clemson
No changes here. That is, unless Urban Meyer comes to town. Then there'll be Justin Fields rumblings. Either way, Lawrence should still be the heavy, odds-on favorite to go No. 1 overall to Jacksonville.
25. Kadarius Toney, WR, Florida
D.J. Chark,
Laviska Shenault, and Toney make for a fun and dynamic receiving trio for Lawrence in Duval.
The Athletic - Brugler (1/12)
1. Trevor Lawrence, QB, Clemson
Regardless of the head coach or general manager, Lawrence is the guy at No. 1. While I wouldn't put the "generational quarterback" label on him, he is a generational talent with his combination of size, mobility, arm talent, processing speed and intangibles.
25. Christian Barmore, IDL, Alabama
Only a redshirt sophomore, Barmore has been my top-ranked defensive tackle since the summer, but that ranking was based more on potential than consistent production. However, the Philadelphia native has continued to develop this season and unlocked his power and athleticism, which is what the Jaguars need on their defensive line.
The Draft Network - Marino (1/7)
1. Trevor Lawrence, QB, Clemson
This will be the first time in franchise history that the Jaguars own the No. 1 overall pick and it couldn't have come at a better time with a blue-chip quarterback prospect in Trevor Lawrence expected to enter the draft. From size, mobility, and intangibles to resume and arm talent, Lawrence has every desired trait to be an elite franchise quarterback in the NFL. He's the obvious choice to be the top pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
21. Samuel Cosmi, OT, Texas
With Lawrence secured with the top pick, it's important that Jacksonville finds a left tackle to protect his blindside. Cam Robinson is set to become a free agent and his up and down tenure with the Jaguars means they will likely move on from him. Cosmi is a long and athletic blocker that has silky smooth movement skills that should make him an outstanding pass blocker in the NFL.
ESPN - McShay (1/7)
1. Trevor Lawrence, QB, Clemson
Did you expect anyone else? I haven't seen a quarterback prospect quite like Lawrence in almost a decade, and the Jaguars are certainly in the market for one.
Gardner Minshew,
Mike Glennon and
Jake Luton combined for the NFL's second-worst Total QBR in 2020 (43.7). Jacksonville will have a new general manager and a new coach after losing 15 games, and the 6-foot-6 Lawrence -- who has a huge arm, good mobility in the pocket and all the intangibles you could ask for -- would give the team a starting quarterback who should soon be among the NFL's best. Lawrence declared for the draft on Wednesday.
22. Daviyon Nixon, IDL, Iowa
We went offense in a big way at No. 1 overall, so let's pivot to defense with the Jaguars' second pick of Day 1. Nixon has great instincts and agility for his 305-pound size. In recent drafts, Jacksonville has padded the edge with
K'Lavon Chaisson and
Josh Allen, but the middle of the line still needs help. Its 4.7 yards per carry allowed is tied for fifth worst in the NFL, and Colts running back
Jonathan Taylor just gutted the Jags for 253 rushing yards on Sunday. Nixon had 13.5 tackles for loss this season and would be a good building block for the team's new staff.
USA Today - MMS (1/5)
1. Trevor Lawrence, QB, Clemson
We've already reached nitpicking season in the first week of January. Yes, Lawrence was outplayed by Justin Fields in the College Football Playoff semifinal that ended the Clemson star's decorated collegiate career. And the Jaguars should -- and will -- comb over all of their options, including Fields, at this spot. But this shouldn't be a difficult decision. Lawrence is every bit the singular quarterback and franchise-changing prospect he has been billed as for years. Any drama about this selection in the coming months is likely to be merely for show.
21. Samuel Cosmi, OT, Texas
Already equipped with the frame (6-7, 310 pounds), movement skills and knowhow of an NFL left tackle, Cosmi would provide an added degree of comfort for Jacksonville as Lawrence's blindside protector.
Athlon Sports - Fisher (1/5)
1. Trevor Lawrence, QB, Clemson
We're not too far removed from Andrew Luck leaving Stanford to call Lawrence a generational prospect but that's an apt descriptor for a guy who has pretty much done it all at the college level on the field and checks all the boxes in terms of physical attributes. The only question left is if the Jags want to sign him early or feign interest in trading down.
21. Joseph Ossai, EDGE, Texas
Trevor Lawrence will have a pretty solid collection of skill-position talent to begin with and the massive amount of cap space the team has can help with the offensive line in free agency. As a result, this additional first-round pick can go towards finding an impact player to boost the second level, which Ossai undoubtedly can do given his burst off the line.
