Week 17 Fantasy Football Start'em, Sit'em: Wide Receivers

If you're reading this, congratulations!

With most fantasy football leagues concluding after Week 17, there is no reason for you to be reading this if you weren't playing in your league's Championship Week.

Below you will find some players that could be starts or sits in your league, but my fantasy football rankings will better help you determine if I would start Player X over Player Y.

Week 17 Fantasy Football Start'em

Jauan Jennings, WR, San Francisco 49ers (vs. CHI)

Jennings has performed as a top-24 fantasy receiver and scored in four consecutive games and in six of his past seven. The Bears have allowed the fourth-most fantasy points to opposing wide receivers this season and the 49ers have a top-five implied total this week. Jennings is a high-end WR2 this week.

Michael Wilson, WR, Arizona Cardinals (at CIN)

Yes, Marvin Harrison Jr. has returned and Wilson had only three targets in Week 16, but he still managed to finish with 52 yards and a score. Double-digit targets shouldn't be expected any more for Wilson, who has averaged 17.6 fantasy points per game since Week 11, but I'd still trust Wilson over his much more ballyhooed teammate in Week 17.

Adonai Mitchell, WR, New York Jets (vs. NE)

I admit it would be difficult to trust any Jets player this week, and Mitchell certainly isn't a must-start. That said, he's a widely available waiver wire option (18% rostered in Yahoo!) as a viable WR3 based on his top-36 spot inside my fantasy wide receiver rankings this week. Mitchell has a minimum of six targets (and average of 7.7 per game) over his past six games and he has scored 14-plus fantasy points in two of his past four contests.

Terry McLaurin, WR, Washington Commanders (vs. DAL)

Since returning in Week 13, McLaurin has 16 catches for 259 yards and two touchdowns over four games. Three of those matchups were against teams that rank among the eight stingiest defenses to opposing wide receivers. This week, McLaurin gets the most generous fantasy defense to the position on Christmas Day. Even if the Commanders are down to their third-string quarterback (Josh Johnson), McLaurin remains a strong play.

Week 17 Fantasy Football Sit'em

Emeka Egbuka, WR, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (at MIA)

Five weeks into the season, Egbuka seemed like the runaway favorite for NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year and a sure-fire WR1. Only Puka Nacua (588), Jaxon Smith-Njigba (534), and Justin Jefferson (449) had more receiving yards in their first five games this season than Egbuka (445, five TDs), who also trailed only Amon-Ra St. Brown (six) in receiving touchdowns during that span. Over his past six games, however, the rookie has a 44.2% catch rate, 42 or fewer yards in five of those games, and no touchdowns. With the team's receiving corps back at full strength, he set career lows in targets (two) and catches (one) in Week 16.

Xavier Worthy, WR, Kansas City Chiefs (vs. DEN)

Without Patrick Mahomes or (likely) Gardner Minshew under center, it's nearly impossible to trust any Chiefs pass catcher in Week 17. Chris Oladokun will likely start assuming Minshew is unable to play this week, and Worthy finished with only two catches for 41 yards last week. Given the difficult matchup against an elite Denver Broncos defense, it's better to keep Worthy on your bench.

Jordan Love: Love, who missed Weeks 2 and 3, finished 2024 with 3,389 passing yards, 25 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Not only was he a non-factor as a rusher (25/83/1), but his splits, as a passer, were also rough last season:

  • Weeks 1-7: 15 PaTDs (3 TDs/G); 1,351 PaYD (270.2/G); 22.2 Fantasy PPG
  • Weeks 8-18: 10 PaTDs (1 TD/G); 2,038 PaYD (203.8/G); 13.4 Fantasy PPG

Slowed as he battled injuries in 2024, Love is poised to run more often (although nobody will confuse him for Lamar Jackson or Jayden Daniels), and he has a chance to rebound in 2025. (He was fantasy's QB5 in 2023.)

Jared Goff: The main concern with Goff is losing offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, but new offensive coordinator John Morton was a senior offensive assistant when Johnson became OC in 2022. Another concern is the loss of center Frank Ragnow (retirement) and Kevin Zeitler (free agency), but the Lions have a very talented group of pass catchers — Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jameson Williams, Sam LaPorta, Jahmyr Gibbs, etc.. Goff has finished as fantasy's QB10, QB7, and QB6, respectively, over the past three seasons.

Jayden Daniels: For good reason, Daniels was a favorite of many as a late-round target in fantasy drafts, and the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year delivered for those who rostered him in 2024. Daniels' ADP was QB12 (or a little later, depending on the site), and the dual-threat quarterback finished his rookie season as a top-five fantasy quarterback. Along with Lamar Jackson (2023 and 2024) and Kyler Murray (2020), Daniels became only the third quarterback in NFL history to throw and run for at least 3,500 and 800 yards, respectively, in the same season. The front office's offseason moves support his continued development as he enters year two.

QB Totals565.3368.44152.725.9513.1831.779.30.32253.4

Matthew Stafford: The duo of Puka Nacua and Davante Adams arguably form the most talented wide receiver duo in the league west of Cincinnati (Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins). That said, Stafford has averaged only 12.9, 16.9, and 13.9 fantasy points per game over the past three seasons, respectively. Stafford's back issues shouldn't keep him from starting in Week 1, but fantasy managers who roster Nacua and/or Adams will collectively hold their breathes following every quarterback hit.

2025 Fantasy Football Mock Drafts

The best way to become good at something is to practice. So, what should you do if you want to draft a better fantasy football team?

Practice, of course!

Leading up to the start of the 2025 NFL season, we will use the fantasy football mock draft simulator to complete fantasy football mock drafts. And we will do so using a variety of scoring formats — point per reception (PPR), half-PPR, standard scoring and even 2-QB leagues — and league sizes. The goal is to provide you with a good representation of the team that you may be able to draft given your league settings while also providing the rationale of why we made the picks we did.

That said, nothing beats practicing yourself so (check out the simulator) and complete a mock in a matter of minutes.

Half-PPR Mock Draft: 12 Teams, 4th Pick

Starting positions: 1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE, 1 Flex (RB/WR/TE), 1 K, 1 DST; Bench spots: 6

1.04 - Jahmyr Gibbs, RB, Detroit Lions

It was tough to pass up CeeDee Lamb and Justin Jefferson at 1.04, but I loaded up on wide receiver and really love the value I got with my WR4/WR5. Gibbs set or tied career highs across the board in rushing (250/1,412/16, 5.6 YPC) and receiving (52/517/4, 9.9 Y/R) in his second season. Gibbs was also top five among running backs with a minimum of 17 targets in yards per route run (1.67) and YAC per reception (11.5), per PFF. Gibbs was especially good when David Montgomery missed the final three regular-season games (RB1 overall), but he was also the RB3 (RB4 on a PPG basis) from Weeks 1 to 15 when Montgomery was also active.

2.09 - A.J. Brown, WR, Philadelphia Eagles

AJB missed four games in 2024 but channeled his inner excellence to finish with 67 receptions for 1,079 yards and seven touchdowns. While there were some quiet games, Brown's 2024 per-game averages of receptions (5.2) and yards (83.0) weren't that much lower than his career averages (5.7/86.8). Big days from Saquon Barkley could lead to low pass volume in any given week, but I expect more passing overall from Jalen Hurts (24.1 attempts/G in 2024) in 2025. As a comparison, Hurts averaged 30.4 pass attempts per game from 2021-2023 with a minimum of 28.8 per game in each of those three seasons.

MORE: Jalen Hurts 2025 Fantasy Football Outlook

3.04 - Tee Higgins, WR, Cincinnati Bengals

While he would be a WR1 elsewhere, Higgins will continue to benefit from being the 1B to Ja'Marr Chase. While he has missed exactly five games in back-to-back seasons, Higgins finished second (behind Chase) among all wide receivers in fantasy points per game in 2024.

4.09 - Terry McLaurin, WR, Washington Commanders

McLaurin, who recently agreed to a three-year extension, has eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark in five consecutive seasons, and he's been remarkably consistent — 77-87 catches and 1,002-1,191 yards in each of the past five seasons. Likely touchdown regression following last year's spike (13, nearly double his previous career high) and a slow start following his hold-in are potential concerns. Beyond that, however, McLaurin is the top weapon in one of the league's best offenses (seventh in yardage and fifth in scoring in 2024) and Jayden Daniels should be even better in year two.

EDSFootball.com Updates for August 23, 2025

Earlier today, we updated fantasy football rankings and projections and posted a new fantasy football mock draft on EDSFootball.com.

2025 Fantasy Football Rankings

As the preseason winds down (final games today), I have updated my positional rankings and overall top 200 fantasy football cheat sheet.

More rankings: QBs | RBs | WRs | TEs | Top 150

2025 Fantasy Football QB Rankings

1. Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills

Putting aside the debate over who should have won the NFL MVP award last season, it's clear that both Allen and Lamar Jackson had MVP-caliber seasons, especially as voters split their votes for MVP and the 2024 AP NFL All-Pro first team. Going into fantasy drafts this summer, Allen vs. Jackson will be the difficult (or easy) choice facing fantasy managers — and to be clear, the "easy" part is that you can't go wrong with either.

Allen posted five-year lows in several passing categories — attempts (483), yards (3,731) and touchdowns (28) — but his dual-threat skill set is what makes him so dangerous. Allen now has (at least) 12 rushing touchdowns in back-to-back seasons and 500-plus rushing yards in four consecutive seasons. He has finished as a top-two fantasy quarterback for five consecutive seasons.

2. Lamar Jackson, Baltimore Ravens

What a year it was Jackson, who posted career highs in passing yards (4,172) and touchdowns (41) while leading the NFL in TD% (8.6%), yards per attempt (8.8) and passer rating (119.6)! It was the second time in his career that he has finished as fantasy's QB1. He posted a 9% TD% in his other overall QB1 season (2019), and then followed that up with a 6.9% rate in 2020. His career average is 6.4%. Long story short, he was absolutely phenomenal in 2024, but last year's ratios would be unsustainable for any quarterback including Jackson (even though he could repeat as fantasy's QB1). Although he has a max of five rushing touchdowns over the past four seasons, Jackson is the NFL's all-time leader in quarterback rushing yards, averaging a whopping 1,019 yards per 17 games over his career.

2025 Fantasy Football RB Rankings

1. Bijan Robinson, Atlanta Falcons

You could argue that Robinson (not Saquon Barkley) should be the RB1 in 2025 fantasy football drafts, especially considering Barkley's historic 2024 volume (most combined regular-season and playoff touches in a decade). The 23-year-old running back racked up 1,887 scrimmage yards and scored 15 total touchdowns on 365 touches including 61 receptions. From Week 6 on, Robinson averaged more fantasy points per game (21.1) than all other running backs. During that 12-game span, he averaged 19.8/97.6 rushing, 3.6/23.3 receiving and scored 14 total touchdowns.

2. Jahmyr Gibbs, Detroit Lions

2025 Fantasy Football WR Rankings

1. Ja'Marr Chase, Cincinnati Bengals

Posting career highs in his age-24 season, Chase led the NFL in receptions (127), yards (1,708) and touchdowns (17) in 2024 to become the fifth triple crown winner since the league merger. Chase had at least five catches and/or 50 yards in all but one game in 2024, but he also had several monster games. There were nine 35-point wide receiver performances league-wide in 2024, and Chase had three (one-third) of them. From Week 5 on, Chase had a 31.46% target share with a weekly minimum of 24.32%. He's the easy choice to select first overall in fantasy drafts this summer.

2. CeeDee Lamb, Dallas Cowboys

Lamb played several weeks dealing with a shoulder injury before shutting it down with a couple of games to go. While his (and Dak Prescott's) injuries factor in, his numbers were down considerably from 2023. Lamb set career lows in yards per reception (11.8) and target (7.9) and his per game averages dropped from 7.9/102.9/0.7 (2023) to 6.7/79.6/0.4 (2024). When everything's clicking, however, Lamb is as productive as any receiver in the league.

2025 Fantasy Football TE Rankings

1. Brock Bowers, Las Vegas Raiders

Bowers led all tight ends in receptions (112), targets (153) and receiving yards (1,194) despite being a rookie with sub-par quarterback play. Only George Kittle scored more fantasy points on a per-game basis, and Bowers led the position in overall points. While it may be difficult to outproduce his rookie numbers, few, if any, tight ends are the focal point of their passing offense the way Bowers is. Even though the Raiders will run the ball more often in 2025, Ashton Jeanty's presence will benefit the pass catchers indirectly by helping to sustain longer drives and Geno Smith will make the passing attack more efficient.

2. Trey McBride, Arizona Cardinals

The good news is that McBride smashed previous career highs in targets (147), receptions (111) and receiving yards (1,146). Among all players (wide receivers included), he finished eighth, fourth, and 11th, respectively, in those categories. The bad news is that he had only two touchdowns and has a total of six through three NFL seasons. If there's a glimmer of hope, McBride finished top three in TE targets from inside the 20 (21, T-2nd), 15 (16, T-2nd), 10 (12, 1st) and 5 (seven, T-1st).

Yes, Brock Bowers deserves to be TE1 in fantasy drafts, but it's a 1A/1B (or 1A/1A) situation with Bowers and McBride. Even though I have Bowers ranked ahead of McBride, the former Colorado State tight end may offer a little more value nearly a round later.

1.09 - Malik Nabers, WR, New York Giants

Nabers finished his rookie campaign as fantasy's WR7 despite poor quarterback play. With a league-high 10 games with double-digit targets and more targets than all receivers not named Ja'Marr Chase, Nabers never finished with fewer than four catches, seven targets or 41 yards in any game in 2024. Going into the 2025 season, Nabers is my WR4 and seventh overall in my top 200 fantasy football cheat sheet. This team turned out stacked at WR, so perhaps I could have started RB (Derrick Henry) here, but I can start up to four receivers (three starters plus flex).

2.04 - Drake London, WR, Atlanta Falcons

London set career highs across the board — 100/1,271/9 on 158 targets (29.3% team target share) — and he finished with 50-plus yards in 14 of 17 games. Only Justin Jefferson and Ja'Marr Chase (15 each) had more such games. London closed the season with 22/352/2 on a league-high 39 targets in that three-week span that Michael Penix Jr. was under center.

MORE: 2025 Atlanta Falcons Fantasy Football Projections

3.09 - Davante Adams, WR, Los Angeles Rams

Adams, who was traded midseason from the Raiders to the Jets, still managed to extend his streak of 1,000-yard, eight-TD seasons to five. Even though he turns 33 on Christmas Eve and won't dominate targets the way he had at previous stops, he should have (or come close to having) another 1,000/8 season.

4.04 - Alvin Kamara, RB, New Orleans Saints

Yes, Kamara turned 30 on July 25th and has missed multiple games in four consecutive seasons. And yes, an offense led by rookie Tyler Shough (or Spencer Rattler) could lead to more downs than ups for the offense as a whole. And yes, his days of off-the-charts production (5.0 YPC, 8.7 Y/R, minimum of 81 catches, and 58 TDs in 60 games) in his first four seasons are a thing of the past. That said, he has averaged 279.5 touches, 61.8 receptions, 1,344.3 yards and 6.8 touchdowns per season over the past four years despite missing 13 games. In 2024, Kamara finished as fantasy's RB10 overall (and as the RB6 on a per-game basis).

C.J. Stroud: What a difference a year made, as Stroud finished his 2023 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year campaign as fantasy's QB8 in points per game and as the QB26 in 2024. The coaching staff did him no favors and Stefon Diggs and Tank Dell ended the year on IR with Nico Collins also missing five games in 2024. With the additions of Christian Kirk in free agency and Iowa State rookies Jayden Higgins and Jaylin Noel in the draft and a new offensive coaching staff in place, there is some optimism for Stroud to rebound in 2025 although the offensive line remains an issue.

QB Totals591.9371.94050.121.6614.3576.4264.52.83263.38

Joe Flacco: Yes, I'm hedging my bets by projecting starts for four different quarterbacks. Outside of 2-QB leagues, however, all of them are far off the fantasy radar so there's no real need to try to make a premature call one way or the other. Chris Easterling of the Akron Beacon Journal recently wrote: "This is Flacco's job to lose. Period." In his first stint with the Browns (2023), Flacco won the NFL Comeback Player of the Year award. In five starts (four wins), Flacco threw for 1,616 yards (323.2 per game), 13 touchdowns (6.4%) and eight interceptions (3.9%). The more games Flacco starts, the more ideal it will be for the team's top pass catchers as well.

Shedeur Sanders: Even those who projected a slide for Sanders couldn't have expected that he would have slipped to the fifth round (144th overall). If you told someone before the draft that he would be the second quarterback selected by his new team (especially with the first being a third-rounder), most would have thought you were crazy. Despite the less-than-ideal (numerical) draft slot, I wouldn't rule out Sanders (and Gabriel) making starts this season. With two first-round picks (and low expectations for 2025), Cleveland will likely be in prime position to draft one near the top of the 2026 NFL Draft and it would make sense for them to get as many evaluation data points for Sanders/Gabriel as possible before then.

Kenny Pickett: Beat writer Mary Kay Cabot wrote earlier this offseason that Pickett was viewed "as the frontrunner to win the starting job at the outset." That said, he's battled a hamstring injury recently and he's not a lock to make the 53-man roster. In the two seasons where he was the primary starter for the Steelers (2022-2023), Pickett threw 13 touchdowns (1.8%) in 24 starts and averaged 179 passing yards per game with 6.3 per attempt.

Washington Commanders 2024 power rankings post-draft roundup

Throughout the 2024 NFL season, we will compile a consensus NFL Power Rankings that averages the rankings of all 32 NFL teams.

Below you will find a post-NFL draft roundup for the Washington Commanders in our consensus 2024 NFL Power Rankings.

ESPN -- Rank: 27

Most improved: Linebacker

For the long term, they're in a better spot at quarterback with Jayden Daniels. But he remains an unknown in the NFL. So for right now the Commanders improved their linebacking play considerably by adding Bobby Wagner and Frankie Luvu. Wagner might not be a Pro Bowl, three-down linebacker anymore, but he led the NFL in tackles (183) last season, and Luvu's pass-rush ability -- 12 combined sacks the past two years and 29 tackles for loss -- will provide a boost. -- John Keim

NFL.com -- Rank: 29

If Jayden Daniels wins Offensive Rookie of the Year, GM Adam Peters might be a dark-horse Executive of the Year candidate. The Commanders had a string of smart free-agent signings, with a mix of hungry veterans and established leaders, and they just brought in what looks like a very strong rookie class. I'll admit that, long-term, I prefer Drake Maye over Daniels. Not by a lot, though. I also wish Washington had invested in better offensive tackle talent for Daniels, but the complaints end there. The Johnny Newton pick kicked off a run of five Friday selections that made their class a winner for me no matter what they did on Saturday (safety Dominique Hampton was my favorite of their three Day 3 choices). If Newton flashes, maybe -- and I'm just spitballing here -- Jonathan Allen becomes available at the trade deadline. You can see the wheels just starting to roll in Washington, but I'm more encouraged about this franchise than I've been in years.

CBS Sports -- Rank: 31

They have their quarterback to build around in Jayden Daniels now to go with a new owner and new coach. This is heading in the right direction.

USA Today -- Rank: 26

Between a very active draft — which featured six of the top 100 picks, including QB Jayden Daniels at No. 2 − and free agent intake, this roster has been heavily churned by new GM Adam Peters and HC Dan Quinn. It also appears to be significantly better, even if results in the win column don't manifest straight away.

The Athletic -- Rank: 23

The Commanders completed their extreme home makeover (the owner, general manager and head coach are all brand new) with their quarterback of the future. At least, that's the hope. Former LSU quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels was the most physically dynamic quarterback on the board, but he does not come without risk. Should be a fun season in Washington, which would be new, too.

Fox Sports -- Rank: 27

The Commanders spent a ton of money in free agency and had a boatload of draft capital to spend. That's the benefit of being so terrible that it requires a full reboot. I can't say expectations are high for the team, but it's going to be fun to watch Jayden Daniels begin his NFL career with a decent supporting cast around him.

Way-too-early Washington Commanders 2025 NFL mock draft roundup

Throughout the year and leading up to the 2025 NFL Draft, we will update our Washington Commanders Mock Draft Roundup showing picks for the Washington Commanders from several prominent sites and draft analysts.

The following are picks in recent mock drafts for the Commanders:

Fox Sports - Rob Rang (5/3)

4. Will Johnson, CB, Michigan

A blue-chip prospect who would have been the first cornerback selected in this year's draft had he been eligible, Johnson offers a tantalizing combination of size, speed, physicality and ball skills. The 6-foot-2, 202-pounder projects as an immediate difference-maker similar to the Broncos' Patrick Surtain Jr., registering seven interceptions over his first two seasons at the college level.

ESPN - Jordan Reid (5/2)

2. Mykel Williams, EDGE, Georgia

The Commanders laid a firm foundation for the roster with their 2024 draft picks, but the defense still lacks youth on the edge. Williams is the most impressive 2025 prospect I've watched on tape so far. He played a lot of defensive tackle last season and still had 4.5 sacks, but he's transitioning to a full-time outside linebacker role this year. He's still only 19 years old and has so much upside. In fact, I think he's a potential No. 1 pick candidate next April.

MORE: 2024 NFL Strength of Schedule

San Diego Union-Tribune - Eddie Brown (5/2)

2. Will Campbell, OT, LSU

The Commanders' starting tackles Cornelius Lucas and Andrew Wylie are both on the wrong side of 30, with Lucas facing free agency after next season. Campbell features prototypical size (6-6, 325 pounds) and started at left tackle for the Tigers as a true freshman in 2022, which means he already has two years experience protecting Washington QB Jayden Daniels' blindside.

The Athletic - Dane Brugler (4/30)

11. Tetairoa McMillan, WR, Arizona

At 6-5, McMillan brings mismatch potential with his size and finishing skills. There are some areas of his game that scouts want to see developed this season, but his athletic adjustment skills and sticky hands make him a quarterback-friendly target.

PFF - Max Chadwick (4/29)

6. Kelvin Banks Jr., OT, Texas

Like New England, Washington spent multiple picks in the 2024 NFL Draft in search of solutions on the offensive line. They also kick off their 2025 draft by selecting a franchise left tackle, Kelvin Banks Jr. He allowed just one sack and one quarterback hit en route to an 86.8 pass-blocking grade in 2023.

The 33rd Team - Marcus Mosher (4/29)

6. Will Johnson, CB, Michigan

The Washington Commanders addressed their quarterback need during the 2024 NFL Draft, but the 2025 draft likely will address the No. 32 ranked defense. Will Johnson is a press cornerback without outstanding size (6-foot-2, 202 pounds) and athleticism (4.44-second 40-yard dash). He could be one of the top cornerbacks off the board next year.

USA Today - Michael Middlehurst-Schwartz (4/28)

4. Will Johnson, CB, Michigan

If Hunter is the premier ballhawk in this class, Johnson is its top overall cover man — and one fully capable of being the first player selected at his position. The 6-2, 202-pounder can drape an assortment of receivers all over the field, making him a highly desirable piece to help counteract NFL passing attacks.

After being bombarded for a league-worst 262.2 yards per game through the air last year, the Commanders only made minor improvements to their secondary, signing cornerback Michael Davis and safety Jeremy Chinn before drafting second-round nickel Mike Sainristil. Expect another tough go in 2024 before the organization gets its shot at Johnson, who would be the most exciting cornerback for Washington since Champ Bailey.

CBS Sports - Ryan Wilson (4/28)

4. Harold Perkins Jr., EDGE/LB, LSU

Harold Perkins can play all over the defense and in two seasons logged 13 sacks and 7 forced fumbles.

Washington Commanders 2024 NFL Draft Grades Roundup

The 2024 NFL Draft is now in the rearview mirror, and we have compiled a consensus ranking using NFL draft grades from a variety of sites.

What draft grades have the media given to the Washington Commanders? What are they saying about the Commanders' 2024 draft haul?

NFL.com - Grade: A-

Day 1 grade: A
Day 2 grade: A
Day 3 grade: A-

Analysis: The Commanders entered a new era with an excellent draft. Daniels could be an elite dual-threat playmaker if he becomes more efficient from the pocket. Newton is a force in the front four. Sainristil is a pain for opposing receivers to handle. Sinnott is an underappreciated receiving/blocking weapon. Coleman is a powerful guard/tackle. And McCaffrey is a reliable WR2 or WR3 option.

Washington did not have a fourth-round pick after moving up to the third in the Sam Howell trade with Seattle. It found a future starting linebacker in Magee, whose explosiveness was underappreciated while he was playing at Temple. Hampton possesses a nice combination of size and quickness, and it won't be surprising if he plays as a rookie.

ESPN - Grade: A-

Top needs entering the draft: Quarterback, offensive line, cornerback

The Commanders have undergone a total reset of their franchise over the past year, with a new owner (Josh Harris), general manager (Adam Peters) and coach (Dan Quinn). Peters, who had been in the 49ers' front office since 2017, had some capital to work with in this draft, with six picks on the first two days.

The first step, though? Picking a quarterback. With 2023 starter Sam Howell traded to Seattle, Washington had its choice of Jayden Daniels, Drake Maye and J.J. McCarthy at No. 2 overall. In my rankings, I had Daniels at No. 2, slightly ahead of Maye -- No. 6 -- with McCarthy nine spots later. In the end, the Commanders went with Daniels, a dual-threat playmaker who won the Heisman Trophy last season, and it was the right call. While he won't have quite the level of pass-catchers around him as Caleb Williams, Daniels has a true No. 1 in Terry McLaurin and a solid No. 2 in Jahan Dotson. Daniels is going to thrive in Kliff Kingsbury's wide-open offense and put up some massive numbers.

I wrote on Friday night about Washington's Day 2 haul, which is talented and deep. Taking defensive tackle Jer'Zhan Newton (36) is an example of the best-available-prospect approach; he has Pro Bowl upside as an interior pass-rusher. Mike Sainristil (50) is a really fun slot corner who can pick off passes and blitz off the edge. Tight end Ben Sinnott (53) can be an outlet for Daniels and upgrade as a run-blocker. Brandon Coleman (67) is a guard/tackle hybrid who could play early. And while I had other available receivers rated higher than Luke McCaffrey (100), the former quarterback turned heads with his contested-catch ability last season. Of the Day 3 fliers, I give linebacker Jordan Magee (139) the best chance to make the team because of his speed and size.

I really like this class overall, and whether it goes from great to amazing could hinge on Coleman becoming a starter. If he does and Daniels is a star, this could set the foundation for the Commanders returning to the playoffs -- in a couple of years.

The Ringer - Grade: A

THE COMMANDERS PUSHED ALL THEIR CHIPS TO THE CENTER OF THE PROVERBIAL DRAFT TABLE TO TAKE HEISMAN WINNER JAYDEN DANIELS, an electric dual-threat quarterback who could quickly emerge as one of the most exciting young players in the game. Washington turned around in the second round and grabbed one of my favorite interior defenders in this class, the explosive and unstoppable Jer'Zhan (Johnny) Newton. The former Illinois star adds playmaking depth to the team's already-stacked interior rotation. The team also added dynamic nickel corner Mike Sainristil in the second—a raw but instinctive cover man who can start right away in Washington's secondary. Tight end Ben Sinnott is another one to watch in this haul: The former Kansas State tight end brings high-end athleticism and elusiveness to the Commanders' offense, giving Daniels another target over the middle of the field. This class should provide an immediate boost for the Commanders.

USA Today - Grade: A-

No. 2 overall pick Jayden Daniels (LSU) could be their galvanizing, long-sought franchise quarterback after the previous regime spent years kicking that can down the road. Second-round DT Johnny Newton (Illinois) and DB Mike Sainristil (Michigan) could be foundational players for the incoming staff ... though Newton's arrival seems to signal Jonathan Allen or Daron Payne could be a short-timer. And it's worth wondering if the former decision-makers did the current ones a disservice by dealing Sweat as pass rush is still an issue here. Third-round WR Luke McCaffrey certainly has the bloodlines — and maybe the talent to be an impact target for Daniels from the slot.

Fox Sports - Grade: B+

Rule No. 1 of drafting a franchise QB: surround him with help. But that's not really what the Commanders did after drafting LSU QB Jayden Daniels second overall. They turned to their defense, where they did get great second-round value in Illinois DT Jer'Zhan Newton and Michigan CB Mike Sainristil. Both could be big-time players. The same goes for second-round TE Ben Sinnott. All their top picks were excellent, but their O-line is still a glaring issue and they didn't address that until Round 3 with TCU guard Brandon Coleman. That could turn out to be a regrettable decision. —Ralph Vacchiano

CBS Sports - Grade: A+

Best Pick: It was their first one, quarterback Jayden Daniels. I think he will be the best quarterback from this draft. They locked up a franchise passer with pick No. 2. He will be dynamic.

Worst Pick: I didn't love the pick of third-round receiver Luke McCaffrey, although he has talent and is improving. I think there were better options on the board -- like Troy Franklin -- when the pick was made.

The Skinny: In his first year running the draft, general manager Adam Peters killed it. It started by taking Daniels with the second overall pick, but continued throughout the process. This is a team moving in the right direction. I liked all their second-round picks in defensive tackle Johnny Newton, corner Mike Sainristil and tight end Ben Sinnott. They drafted a lot of talented football players.

Sporting News - Grade: A

Analysis: New GM Adam Peters hopes to flip all the past bad vibes and Daniels' upside as a passer and runner for Kliff Kingsbury is a great start. Defensive-minded Dan Quinn had to love Newton and Sainristil back-to-back to help push this group toward what he had in Dallas. Sinnott and McCaffrey add interesting spread weapons to Terry McLaurin, Jahan Dotson, Austin Ekeler, and Zach Ertz. Then, Quinn got more of what he needed late, too.

SI - Grade: A+

Analysis: This was a straight-up masterpiece. The Commanders got the best quarterback in the draft (as I see it, at least) and then hammered the top 100, eschewing the relatively worthless picks that will be coming in Rounds 4—7. This is one of the few drafts that I thought elevated a team from its pre-draft status into something promising. Could Washington be this year's Texans? I'm not ruling it out and you shouldn't, either.

Touchdown Wire - Grade: A+

If I'm grading a draft on the number of My Guys a team selected (and really, what else am I supposed to do this early in the process), only the Cardinals can rival the number of Farrar favorites selected. Start with Jayden Daniels, who was my top quarterback and No. 1 overall player in this class. I had Johnny Newton ranked as highly as any defensive player not named Quinyon Mitchell. Ben Sinnott started playing hockey at age 3, and in high school, he led his team in both points and penalty minutes. That's a perfect summary of his football playing style. Mike Sainristil is a first-day green dot guy who reminds me of Tyrann Mathieu and Jalen Pitre. And Luke McCaffrey is one of the slipperiest receivers in this class. First-year general manager Adam Peters came into an organization trying to put all kinds of bad decisions behind it, and this draft class couldn't have gone much better in that regard.

Washington Commanders Week 10 NFL Power Rankings Roundup

Throughout the 2023 NFL season, we will compile a consensus NFL Power Rankings that averages the rankings of all 32 NFL teams.

Below you will find a Week 10 roundup for the Washington Commanders in our consensus 2023 NFL Power Rankings.

ESPN -- Rank: 19

Non-QB MVP: WR Terry McLaurin

This was not an easy one to pick -- no one is having a Pro Bowl season -- but McLaurin has been one of the most consistent Commanders, with 47 catches for 568 yards and 2 touchdowns. In the past six games he has topped 70 yards receiving four times; he has averaged 73.7 yards per game in that stretch compared to 42 in the first three. McLaurin remains the heartbeat of the offense. When he's involved early, the offense benefits. He's on pace for 88 catches and 1,072 yards and would become the first player in franchise history to top 1,000 yards in four consecutive seasons. -- John Keim

NFL.com -- Rank: 26

Any talk of replacing Sam Howell has rightly dissipated, as he's now strung together two more impressive games, on top of the ones he stacked earlier in the year. Who knows how the rest of the season will go? Either way, he should be considered the guy from here on out. Even though Howell is good for at least one regrettable play per game, he's shown the kind of composure and dual-threat ability at least a dozen other teams (including the Patriots, whom he vanquished Sunday) would love to have at the QB position right now. The Commanders' defense also deserves a back pat for turning in a strong team effort after losing its two top pass rushers. Credit to the replacements. There wasn't a massive drop-off in Washington's first game without Montez Sweat and Chase Young.

CBS Sports -- Rank: 19

The offense has played well the past two weeks with Sam Howell coming on strong. They beat the Patriots with over 400 yards of offense, which is a good sign as they get to 4-5 on the season.

USA Today -- Rank: 28

Fresh off consecutive 300-yard games for the first time in his career, QB Sam Howell now leads the NFC with 2,471 passing yards — a figure that may continue to rise after the defense was stripped at the trade deadline.

The Athletic -- Rank: 21

Report card: C-minus

Sam Howell has more passing yards than anyone in the NFL in the last two weeks (722). More surprisingly, he has been sacked only four times in those two games. Still, the Commanders haven't beaten anyone with a winning record and their four victims have a combined record of 10-25.

FOX -- Rank: 20

Sometimes, Sam Howell gives you the good and the bad in the same game. Against New England, the young quarterback was capable of a 325-yard passing day with a touchdown, as well as a red-zone interception. All part of the process. The Commanders have had some brutal letdowns this season, but Howell's play has largely been a bright spot.

Yahoo! -- Rank: 23

The Commanders had to notice Sam Howell throwing for more than 700 yards over the past two games. They need an answer on Howell and if he can be their future at quarterback. There are still questions about that and a lot of things Howell still needs to clean up, but he is improving. That sets him up well for the second half of the season.

PFT -- Rank: 24

Just when it seemed like they were giving up, they got their act together.

Washington Commanders Week 9 NFL Power Rankings Roundup

Throughout the 2023 NFL season, we will compile a consensus NFL Power Rankings that averages the rankings of all 32 NFL teams.

Below you will find a Week 9 roundup for the Washington Commanders in our consensus 2023 NFL Power Rankings.

ESPN -- Rank: 24

Washington coach Ron Rivera said one reason the Commanders remain optimistic at 3-5 stems from Sam Howell's growth. Howell, who has now started nine career games, has thrown 13 touchdown passes this season, which puts him sixth in the league and on pace for 27. That would be the most for the franchise since Kirk Cousins threw the same amount in 2017. Howell is coming off his best game, throwing for 397 yards and four touchdowns in Sunday's 38-31 loss to the NFL best team, the Eagles. He has been sacked 41 times but only once on Sunday as he did a better job of getting rid of the ball and making quick decisions. -- John Keim

NFL.com -- Rank: 27

After Sunday's loss knocked the Commanders back to 3-5, all eyes turned to what they might do at the trade deadline. Losing five of six games after the 2-0 start has put them here, thanks to this team's often maddening inconsistency. Do we give Washington credit for battling the Eagles to the bitter end in two games this season? Some, yes, but how can we justify the losses to the Bears and Giants? Those performances looked nothing like the two games against Philly or the road wins at Denver and Atlanta. Sam Howell showed why any talk of benching him was silly, and it was nice to see the improved pass protection and play calling after weeks of poor performance in those areas. But this team made its own bed, which is why it might be open for business now.

UPDATE: On Tuesday, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported that the Commanders are trading DE Montez Sweat to the Bears in exchange for a second-round pick.

CBS Sports -- Rank: 24

They had their chances against the Eagles, but they have to start winning games. Could Ron Rivera be in trouble?

USA Today -- Rank: 30

Pending free agents Chase Young, Montez Sweat and Kendall Fuller are all good players. They're also part of a pass defense that's allowed the most TDs (18) through the air league-wide.

The Athletic -- Rank: 25

Something scary (for them): The trade deadline

New owner Josh Harris might decide to go full fire sale before today's 4 p.m. ET deadline. Defensive lineman Montez Sweat is rumored to be on the market, and nobody should be off limits. Sam Howell does not look like the solution at quarterback, and Washington might be looking for draft capital. The Commanders are in position to have the 11th pick in next year's draft and probably need to get a little higher to have a shot at a difference-maker at quarterback.

FOX -- Rank: 22

If they're playing the Eagles, just assume the Commanders are going to leave it all on the field. It'd be nice if they could manage any sense of consistency against anyone else, but at least they get up for Philly. Now, we wait to see what (if anything) happens at the trade deadline.

Yahoo! -- Rank: 25

It came in a loss, but Sam Howell had the type of game that can get Washington excited for his future. He threw for 397 yards against a good Eagles defense. He has been taking way too many sacks this season but took only one against a strong Philly pass rush. Howell threw a bad interception that led to the loss, but otherwise it was a very good performance for a young quarterback.

PFT -- Rank: 25

The reset button is getting closer for the new ownership group.
