2017 Fantasy Football Projections: Miami Dolphins

In addition to viewing our 2017 Fantasy Football Projections by position, we will post our preseason projections per team.

Below you will find our 2017 fantasy football projections for the Miami Dolphins:

Coming out of "retirement," Cutler found a nearly perfect scenario given that he already knows Adam Gase's offense. In addition, he had one of the best seasons of his career when Gase was his offensive coordinator. Even if Ryan Tannehill did not tear (or re-tear) his ACL, the Dolphins would have been a run-first team as we saw with their evolution last season as Jay Ajayi became a workhorse. I'd expect that to continue with or without Cutler under center.

Running Backs

Jay Ajayi294.313158.938.12681.2218.9
There were four 200-yard rushing games last season and Ajayi had three of them. (Le'Veon Bell had the other.) Getting double-digit carries every week starting in Week 5, only Bell (243) had more carries than Ajayi (242) from Weeks 5 to 17 last season. Only Ezekiel Elliott (1,219) rushed for more yards than Ajayi (1,197) during that span. Entering 2017 as the team's bellcow back, Ajayi could challenge for the league lead in carries in 2017.

Wide Receivers

DeVante Parker72.410226.3000139.99
Preseason expectations were unfortunately greater than his actual production in 2016. Coaches, players and reporters have generally talked Parker up all offseason, which can be summed up by the offensive coordinator's 2017 expectations for him: "Gigantic year." With Cutler taken over for the injured Ryan Tannehill, it's likely that the former first-round pick finally outscores Jarvis Landry in fantasy points (at least, in standard-scoring formats).
Jarvis Landry7483944.2230110.2
Over the past two seasons, Landry has a total of 205 receptions for 2,295 yards and eight touchdowns in addition to 22 rush attempts for 128 yards and a touchdown and has finished as a top-20 fantasy wide receiver in back-to-back seasons. That's the good news. The bad news? Starting on Oct. 9th, the Dolphins gave Jay Ajayi double-digit carries over the final 12 games. Here are Landry's per-game numbers before Oct. 9th: 7.75/93.75/0.25 on 11.25 targets per game. Here they are on or after Oct. 9th: 5.25/63.42/0.25 on 7.17 targets per game. With the Dolphins becoming a run-first team, I'd expect Landry's per-game targets to be closer to 7.17 than 11.25 going forward.
Kenny Stills45.17046.3000108.22
Re-signing with the Dolphins on a four-year deal, Stills finished 2016 with 42 catches for 726 yards (17.3 Y/R) and nine touchdowns as fantasy's WR28 (WR46 in PPR). Especially productive down the stretch, Stills scored in each of the final four games and seven of his final 10. Given his relatively low volume of targets, his performance will likely be volatile on a week-to-week basis, but Stills could finish as a top 40-50 fantasy wide receiver in terms of overall points scored in 2017.

Julius Thomas38.54144.970.75
After two disappointing seasons in Jacksonville, the reunion with Adam Gase is certainly a positive for Thomas, who had 12 touchdowns in each of his final two seasons with Denver and Adam Gase (and Peyton Manning). In fact, Thomas (33) has the eighth-most receiving touchdowns over the past four seasons.
