2018 Fantasy Football Mock Draft: 12 Teams, 10th Pick

As the saying goes, practice makes perfect. While we may not be able to draft a "perfect" fantasy football team, the more we practice, the better our teams will be.

Starting on July 7th, we began drafting (at least) one fantasy football team per day using the 2018 Fantasy Football Mock Draft Simulator and we will continue to do so up until the start of the 2018 NFL season.

Each day, we will switch things up -- e.g., PPR vs. standard scoring, league size, draft slot, 2-QB leagues, auction leagues, etc.

In addition, we will centralize links to our daily fantasy football mock drafts for an easy way to keep track of our mock drafts.

Details of today's mock draft:
  • Scoring: Standard scoring (i.e., non-PPR scoring)
  • # of Teams: 12
  • Draft Slot: 10
  • Starters: QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, TE, Flex (RB/WR/TE), K, DST
  • Bench Size: 6

With that said, here are the results of today's mock draft:

1.10 - Julio Jones, WR, Atlanta Falcons: With 1,400-plus yards in each of the past four seasons, Jones has a total of 6,317 receiving yards during that four-year span. Only Antonio Brown (6,349) has more and both have more than 1,200 yards more than DeAndre Hopkins (5,063, third).

2.03 - Leonard Fournette, RB, Jacksonville Jaguars: Missing three games as a rookie, Fournette was less than 100 percent for several others but managed to finish as fantasy's RB8 (RB10 in PPR) in Jacksonville's run-first scheme. Down to his lowest weight (223 pounds) since high school, Fournette's drop in weight should help with explosiveness and durability. With the league's best defense and a run-first offensive philosophy, the workhorse back has a chance to lead the NFL in carries if he can stay healthy for a full season.

3.10 - Adam Thielen, WR, Minnesota Vikings: Thielen has only 10 touchdowns in his four NFL seasons, but the former UDFA built upon his breakout 2016 season to lead the team in targets (142), receptions (91) and receiving yards (1,276).

4.03 - Demaryius Thomas, WR, Denver Broncos: Thomas is coming off his worst season (83/949/5) since breaking out in 2012 -- Peyton Manning's first year in Denver. Signing Case Keenum may not return Thomas to the days of 90/1,400/10 numbers he posted from 2012 to 2014, but a bounce-back campaign to the tune of 85 catches and 1,100 yards seems reasonable with steadier quarterback play.

- MORE: 12 Undervalued Players Compared to Fantasy ADP

5.10 - Corey Davis, WR, Tennessee Titans: The fifth-overall pick in last year's draft, Davis has the tools to become a true No. 1 receiver in the league. Injuries slowed him down in his rookie campaign as he finished with a 34/375/0 (regular-season) line. Healthy and impressing during offseason workouts, Davis has the potential for a breakout 2018 season.

6.03 - Cam Newton, QB, Carolina Panthers: Since entering the league in 2011, Newton has finished as a top-four fantasy quarterback in all but two seasons (2014 and 2016). Of course, a huge part of his fantasy success is generated by his rushing production. Averaging 7.7 rushing scores per season, Newton has 100-plus rush attempts and 500-plus rushing yards every year except for 2016.

7.10 - Marshawn Lynch, RB, Oakland Raiders: After taking a year off, Lynch returned to the NFL and rushed for 891 yards and seven touchdowns and added 20 catches for 151 yards in 2017.

8.03 - Tevin Coleman, RB, Atlanta Falcons: Even if he's the 2 to Devonta Freeman in the team's 1-2 rushing attack, Coleman has finished as a top-24 running back and exceeded 900 yards from scrimmage each season with 19 total touchdowns since 2016.

9.10 - Rex Burkhead, RB, New England Patriots: Burkhead scored eight touchdowns (in 10 games) as he rushed for 264 yards and added 30 catches for 254 yards. I'm the exception to the rule, I suppose, but I actually prefer Burkhead over rookie Sony Michel.

10.03 - Trey Burton, TE, Chicago Bears: Burton had 23 catches for 248 yards and five touchdowns as the second tight end behind Zach Ertz for the Super Bowl champs last season. Burton has plenty of breakout potential in Matt Nagy's offense in Kansas City.

11.10 - Giovani Bernard, RB, Cincinnati Bengals: Joe Mixon missed a couple of games, but Bernard was highly productive down the stretch. In five December games, Bernard had 507 YFS, averaged 4.75 YPC with 24 receptions and two scores.

- MORE: 12 Undervalued Players Compared to Fantasy ADP

12.03 - George Kittle, TE, San Francisco 49ers: Ending the season with a bang, Kittle had four catches for 100 yards in Week 17 against the Rams and he finished his rookie campaign with 43/515/2. Among rookie tight ends, only New York's Evan Engram had more receptions or yards.

13.10 - Chris Ivory, RB, Buffalo Bills: Ivory averaged a career-low 3.4 YPC for Jacksonville last season and the 30-year-old back signed a two-year deal with Buffalo. With LeSean McCoy facing serious allegations, Ivory would be the first option if McCoy were to miss any time.

14.03 - Los Angeles Chargers D/ST

15.10 - Stephen Gostkowski, K, New England Patriots

16.03 - Tyrell Williams, WR, Los Angeles Chargers: With Keenan Allen out for virtually of 2016, Williams had a breakout season with 69 catches for 1,059 yards and seven touchdowns. With Allen healthy, Williams had 43/728/4 in 2017 — and that level of production is a more reasonable expectation barring an Allen injury in 2018.

Below you will find our 2018 fantasy football projections for the Los Angeles Chargers.

Except for 2012 (21st) and 2016 (14th), Rivers has finished as a top-12 fantasy quarterback in the eight of his past 10 NFL seasons. On my list of 12 Undervalued Players Compared to Fantasy ADP, Rivers has thrown for at least 4,286 yards and 28 touchdowns in each of the past five seasons.

Melvin Gordon288.211968.663.75162.51.5234.8
Yet to average 4.0 yards per carry in a season, Gordon rushed for 1,105 yards last year and added 58 catches for 476 yards, all of which were career highs. And after not scoring on 217 touches as a rookie, MG3 has scored exactly 12 touchdowns in each of the past two seasons. Ex-Chargers HOFer LaDainian Tomlinson said "the first thing I thought about when Hunter [Henry] went down, is Melvin is going to have to become a weapon in the passing game. Hunter makes easy throws for Philip, easy first downs and easy red zone targets. Now somebody has to pick up that role, and that can be Melvin."

Keenan Allen108.61395.57.61.87.600.1185.71
Playing just eight games in 2015 and one game in 2016, Allen won the AP Comeback of the Year award as he posted career numbers (102/1,393/6) in a healthy 16-game campaign. From Weeks 11 to 17, Allen was absolutely dominant with five 100-yard games during that seven-game span. No player had more receptions (58) or receiving yards (797) and only Antonio Brown (six) scored more touchdowns (five) than Allen over that stretch.
Tyrell Williams54.7864.34.90000.3115.23
With Allen out for virtually of 2016, Williams had a breakout season with 69 catches for 1,059 yards and seven touchdowns. With Allen healthy, Williams had 43/728/4 in 2017 — and that level of production is a more reasonable expectation barring an Allen injury in 2018.
Mike Williams38.3505.64.60000.377.56
Using the No. 7 pick on the former Clemson wideout, the Chargers got only 11 catches for 95 yards from the rookie. Back in April, Williams said he's "100%" now and the big target (6-4, 218) could become especially productive as a red-zone weapon for the Chargers, who will be without tight ends Henry and (as of now, at least) Antonio Gates.
Travis Benjamin30.8486.63.18.857.20.20.473.38
Benjamin averaged 16.7 yards per catch last season and the speedster always has the potential for a big play. On the flip side, he had seven games with no or one reception in 2017.

Virgil Green31.2358.83.10000.154.28
With Hunter Henry (ACL) out for the season, it's possible that they bring back Antonio Gates. For now, Virgil Green tops the TE depth chart and has some sleeper appeal. Either way, we could see more three-WR sets from the Bolts.

Quarterbacks

PlayerAtt.Comp.YardsTDINTRushYardsTDFLPoints
Russell Wilson529328386228.610.685.4461.22.12.7301
A top-three fantasy quarterback in three of the past four seasons, Wilson has rushed for 2,777 yards and 20 touchdowns in his six NFL seasons. But he's also averaged over 4,000 passing yards over the past three seasons and threw for a league-high 34 touchdowns in 2017. Despite his dual-threat abilities, Wilson has never missed an NFL game. So, in other words, he has tons of weekly upside with a solid floor.

Rashaad Penny201.1874.86.627.7227.10.81.1152.39
With good size (5-11, 220) and speed (4.46 forty), Penny could eventually be used as a three-down back for the Seahawks. At least to open training camp, it's Chris Carson -- not Penny -- that tops the team's depth chart. Penny should take over that position on the depth chart, but it may happen as soon as most expected.
Chris Carson115.3507.3411.998.80.40.286.61
A sleeper pick in 2017, Carson was off to a promising start, but he missed the final 12 games. If it weren't for the team drafting Rashaad Penny in the first round this year, many would tout Carson as a breakout candidate in 2018. Even so, the second-year back entered training camp atop the depth chart.

Doug Baldwin81.21051.57.31.43.100.2148.86
Falling just shy of the 1,000-yard mark last season, Baldwin has 247/3,188/29 over the past three seasons and has finished as the WR7, WR10 and WR13, respectively, in standard-scoring formats over the past three seasons.
Tyler Lockett53.2702.24.38.166.40.50.1111.46
Lockett played a full 16-game slate last season, but he was never 100 percent. With Paul Richardson in Washington (D.C.) and the uncertainty of what the Seahawks will get from Brandon Marshall, Lockett has breakout potential in 2018 now that he's healthy.
Brandon Marshall28.9294.82.90000.146.68
Marshall had a 109/1,502/14 season in 2015, but that feels so long ago. Signing a one-year deal (with not much money guaranteed) with the Seahawks, Marshall isn't a lock to make the roster and (if he does) his fantasy outlook isn't all that appealing.

Deshaun Watson473.2295.3376229.314.771.9445.83.53.5296.86
Offensive line woes and lack of experience did not slow Watson down as a rookie. Unfortunately, an ACL tear did. Before the injury, however, Watson finished with the most or second-most fantasy points in each of his final four games and eclipsed the 30-point mark in three of those four outings. Expectations are high entering season two, but he has legitimate QB1 upside for 2018 if he can stay healthy for a full season.

Lamar Miller197.2818.45.334.6294.12.80.5158.85
Miller has two 1,000-yard seasons since 2014, but he was even less efficient in 2017 (career-low 3.7 YPC) than he was in 2016 (4.0). The Texans have one of the league's worst offensive lines (actually the worst if you go by PFF rankings) and the line won't be markedly better in 2018. On a positive note, Miller has shed a few pounds and entered training camp at his lowest weight since signing with Houston.
D'Onta Foreman120.6506.54.79.878.40.31.286.09
Foreman's rookie season was cut short due to an Achilles injury and he's starting training camp on the active/PUP list. Perhaps he'll avoid the reserve/PUP list, which would require him to miss a mininum of six games, that seems like a real possibility at this point.

DeAndre Hopkins99.61404.48.50000.9189.64
Leading the NFL in receiving touchdowns (13) last season, Hopkins now has four seasons with 75-plus catches and three seasons with 1,200-plus yards through his age-25 season. With a league-high 174 targets last season, Hopkins had 35-percent target share in 10 of 15 games and double-digit targets 11 times. As the focal point of Houston's offense, he arguably has the highest floor among all receivers in the league.
Will Fuller52.1765.96.34.622.101114.6
The Texans scored 30.71 (real) points per game with Deshaun Watson under center; only 13.67 without him. As you'd expect, the games that Fuller played with Watson were much better than those without him. Both were on the field together for just four games (admittedly, an incredibly small sample size), but Fuller scored seven touchdowns in those four games! Durability is a concern for both as Fuller has missed multiple games in both seasons and Watson is returning from a torn ACL, but there is plenty of upside for Fuller if both maintain good health in 2018.
Keke Coutee16.3244.51.60000.333.45
Racking up 93/1,429/10 for the Red Raiders last season, the fourth-round rookie has impressed Andre Johnson and has a chance to be the team's third-most productive receiver this season.

Stephen Anderson18.7231.91.40000.131.39
Anderson played 15 games last season and set career highs with 25 receptions for 342 yards. With less than 20 yards in nine of those 15 games, Anderson has more upside than Ryan Griffin, but neither tight end is much more than a streaming option. On a positive note, Houston's tight ends have the league's most favorable fantasy football strength of schedule.
Ryan Griffin20.9221.51.40000.230.15
With C.J. Fiedorowicz retiring, the Texans drafted a pair of tight ends -- Jordan Akins and Jordan Thomas -- this year. That said, Griffin could get the most snaps at the position, but his upside is relatively limited.

2018 Fantasy Football PPR Mock Draft: 12 Teams, 3rd Pick

  • Scoring: Point-per-reception (PPR) scoring
  • # of Teams: 12
  • Draft Slot: 3
  • Starters: QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, TE, Flex (RB/WR/TE), K, DST
  • Bench Size: 6

With that said, here are the results of today's mock draft:

1.03 - David Johnson, RB, Arizona Cardinals: Missing all but part of Week 1 last year, Johnson is two seasons removed from 2,118 yards from scrimmage, 80 catches and 20 touchdowns. The ambitious goals he set for himself in 2017 -- 1,000 rushing yards and 1,000 receiving yards -- remain his goals for 2018. The order may be debatable, but Johnson is a top-four fantasy back along side Todd Gurley, Le'Veon Bell and Ezekiel Elliott and my No. 3 back in PPR formats.

2.10 - Doug Baldwin, WR, Seattle Seahawks: Falling just shy of the 1,000-yard mark last season, Baldwin has 247/3,188/29 over the past three seasons and I have him projected for 81/1,051/7 and the ninth-most PPR fantasy points in 2018.

3.03 - Joe Mixon, RB, Cincinnati Bengals: Down to 218 pounds (compared to 238 last year's rookie minicamp), Mixon is poised for bigger things in his sophomore campaign. The versatile back averaged just 3.5 yards per carry last season behind one of the league's worst offensive lines, but a pair of offensive line upgrades at LT/C should help.

4.10 - Demaryius Thomas, WR, Denver Broncos: Thomas is coming off his worst season (83/949/5) since breaking out in 2012 (Peyton Manning's first season in Denver). Signing Case Keenum may not return Thomas to the days of 90/1,400/10 numbers he posted from 2012 to 2014, but a bounce-back campaign to the tune of 85 catches and 1,100 yards seems reasonable with steadier quarterback play.

- MORE: 12 Undervalued Players Compared to Fantasy Football ADP

5.03 - Corey Davis, WR, Tennessee Titans: The fifth-overall pick in last year's draft, Davis has the tools to become a true No. 1 receiver in the league. Injuries slowed him down in his rookie campaign as he finished with a 34/375/0 (regular-season) line. Healthy and impressing during offseason workouts, Davis has the potential for a breakout 2018 season.

6.10 - Delanie Walker, TE, Tennessee Titans: Extending his streak of 800-yard seasons to four, Walker finished as PPR's TE6 in his age-33 season. The veteran tight end has finished as a top-12 fantasy tight end in all five of his seasons with the Titans and should do so again.

7.03 - Cam Newton, QB, Carolina Panthers: Since entering the league in 2011, Newton has finished as a top-four fantasy quarterback in all but two seasons (2014 and 2016). Of course, a huge part of his fantasy success is generated by his rushing production. Averaging 7.7 rushing scores per season, Newton has 100-plus rush attempts and 500-plus rushing yards every year except for 2016.

8.10 - Tevin Coleman, RB, Atlanta Falcons: Even if he's the 2 to Devonta Freeman in the team's 1-2 rushing attack, Coleman has finished as a top-24 running back and exceeded 900 yards from scrimmage each season with 19 total touchdowns since 2016.

- MORE: Devonta Freeman 2018 Fantasy Football Profile

9.03 - Chris Thompson, RB, Washington Redskins: Missing the final six games of the season, Thompson had 294 rushing yards, 39 catches for 510 yards and a total of six touchdowns through 10 games. Through Week 11 (his last game played), Thompson was RB10 in PPR scoring.

10.10 - D.J. Moore, WR, Carolina Panthers: Despite poor quarterback play at Maryland, Moore had a school-record 80 catches for 1,033 yards and eight touchdowns and was named the Big Ten Wide Receiver of the Year last season. The first wide receiver off the board in this year's draft, Moore ran a 4.42 forty with a 39.5-inch vertical and 11-foot broad jump at the NFL Combine, is outstanding after the catch and has gotten off to an impressive start this offseason.

11.03 - Kenny Golladay, WR, Detroit Lions: Golladay's best games were his first (4/69/2) and his last (2/80/1). Missing five games, the rookie totalled only 22/328/0 in his nine games from Weeks 2 to 16. With No. 1 WR traits, Golladay is a candidate for a second-year breakout.

12.10 - Giovani Bernard, RB, Cincinnati Bengals: Mixon missed a pair of games, but Bernard had 507 YFS, averaged 4.75 YPC with 24 receptions and two scores over five December games. Gio offers late-round value as a back that could return flex value (especially in PPR formats).

- MORE: 16 Fantasy Football Sleepers for 2018

13.03 - David Njoku, TE, Cleveland Browns: Playing less than half of the team's offensive snaps as a rookie, Njoku posted a 32/386/4 stat line in 2017. Coach Hue Jackson says that he expects a big jump from Njoku in Year 2. Especially if Josh Gordon were to miss any time this season, Njoku could have a breakout season.

14.10 - Los Angeles Chargers D/ST

15.03 - Stephen Gostkowski, K, New England Patriots

16.10 - Tyrell Williams, WR, Los Angeles Chargers: With Keenan Allen out for virtually of 2016, Williams had a breakout season with 69 catches for 1,059 yards and seven touchdowns. With Allen healthy, Williams had 43/728/4 in 2017 — and that level of production is a reasonable expectation for 2018.

Fantasy Football Average Draft Position (ADP): Biggest Weekly Risers

Every Sunday, we post an update in players that have had the biggest moves — both up and down — in fantasy football average draft position (ADP) from the previous week.

With this information, we can get a better sense of changes in the collective perceptions of fantasy football owners (mock drafters); in essence, it's a version of fantasy football stock up/down for players. If a player is moving up the ADP chart, it may lead us to using a higher pick than his current ADP to make sure we secure a targeted/coveted player.

Of course, a player's ADP (and movement) is just one (small) piece in determining who to draft and our strategy used to assemble a fantasy roster.

For purposes of our comparison, we will use ADP data from 12-team mock drafts from Fantasy Football Calculator:

2018 Fantasy Football Projections: New York Jets

In addition to viewing our 2018 Fantasy Football Projections by position, we will post our preseason projections per team.

Below you will find our 2018 fantasy football projections for the New York Jets.

Quarterbacks

Sam Darnold364.7215.2248012.410.930.3106.134.2147.21
Darnold and the Jets have yet to reach an agreement on his rookie contract, but the ex-USC quarterback appears to be the favorite to win the starting job heading into his rookie season. As ESPN's Rich Cimini writes of Darnold opening as the starter, "it's his job to win."
Josh McCown145.993.410506.33.518.265.51.80.776.15
Before getting hurt in Week 14, McCown finished as a top-seven weekly fantasy quarterback in five of his previous seven starts. The ideal bridge quarterback, McCown appears likely to enter the season as the backup to top-three pick Sam Darnold. McCown threw twice as many touchdowns (18) as interceptions (nine) last season and added five rushing scores.

Running Backs

Isaiah Crowell203.6875.55.515.4118.60.21.5130.61
Only 25 years old, Crowell signed a three-year deal in free agency with the Jets this offseason. With 850-plus rushing yards in each of the past two seasons, Crowell does not necessarily get an offensive upgrade with his new club and I expect similar production in 2018.
Bilal Powell71.1305.72.122.3160.60.40.959.83
Powell carried the ball 178 times for 772 yards, both of which are career highs, but he only had five receptions in the team's final eight games. With the team signing Crowell to handle early-down touches and the team talking up Elijah McGuire, Powell's 2018 role was uncertain. The injury to McGuire, however, (re)opens the door for Powell's opportunities.
Elijah McGuire48.5203.71.225.2224.31.51.655.8
New York's RBs coach Stump Mitchell said of McGuire: "I’ll tell you who I see Eli as — and he’s in the Hall of Fame. Eli has the skill set to be a LaDainian Tomlinson if he was given that opportunity. That’s not what presents itself to him at this particular point in time. But skill set, he can do it all. He can catch. He can run. He can run routes as a receiver. He just happens to be here … and I’m glad we got him." Unfortunately, McGuire (broken foot) is expected to miss 3-6 weeks.

Wide Receivers

Robby Anderson58.9859.95.22.819.60.10.4118.95
While his legal matters may now be resolved, Anderson could face league discipline from his off-field issues. In terms of on-field production, however, he had a career season (63/941/7) and was especially productive from Weeks 7 to 13. During that six-game span, Anderson had 100-plus yards and/or a touchdown every week and posted a 31/525/6 line.
Quincy Enunwa42.8629.23.20000.181.92
Enunwa led the team in receiving in 2016 (58/857/4), but he missed all of 2017 with a neck injury. There's a chance that he leads the team in receiving in 2018 if he could stay healthy.
Jermaine Kearse45.1563.83.70000.278.18
Kearse either set or tied career highs across the board with 65 catches for 810 yards and five touchdowns to finish as fantasy's WR30 (WR26 in PPR) last season. It'd be unreasonable to expect a repeat performance, but nobody expected that production from him in 2017 either.
Terrelle Pryor37.6503.82.70000.166.38
Few players were a bigger fantasy disappointment in 2017. Putting up a 1,000-yard season in his first year as a full-time receiver with a poor quarterback situation, Pryor managed just 20/240/1 when playing with Kirk Cousins last season. Pryor blames last year's disappointment on his ankle, but his range of 2018 outcomes is incredibly wide.
