Kansas City Chiefs Week 2 NFL Power Rankings Roundup

Throughout the 2020 NFL season, we will compile a consensus NFL Power Rankings that averages the rankings of all 32 NFL teams.

Here is where the Kansas City Chiefs rank in terms of average, best and worst:

  • Average ranking: 1.0 (1st)
  • Best ranking: 1st (Multiple)
  • Worst ranking: 1st (Multiple)

Below you will find a Week 2 roundup for the Chiefs in our consensus 2020 NFL Power Rankings.

The Athletic -- Rank: 1

What we learned: Clyde Edwards-Helaire is a fun addition to an already loaded offense. While Damien Williams had some good moments last year, he produced a positive result (EPA) on just 36 percent of his runs, according to Sports Info Solutions. That ranked 44th among the 50 backs with at least 75 carries. While we can debate the wisdom of using a first-round pick on a running back, theres no doubt that the Chiefs went into the offseason knowing they could benefit from a talent upgrade. And Edwards-Helaire gives them just that. He can make people miss, break tackles and produce positive gains even when the blocking is less than perfect. The defending champs didnt play anywhere near their best and still beat the Texans by two touchdowns.

CBS Sports -- Rank: 1

They showed in the opener that they are still the team to beat in the league. And now they can run it with the rookie Clyde Edwards-Helaire, which makes the offense even tougher to defend.

USA Today -- Rank: 1

May as well just keep them parked here for a minute -- or an hour. QB Patrick Mahomes has never lost a start in September nor thown an INT before October.

ESPN -- Rank: 1

Best rookie debut: RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire
He added another dimension to the Chiefs' offense with his ability to make defenders miss in the open field. Edwards-Helaire, who rushed for 138 yards and a touchdown on 25 carries Thursday, is difficult to knock off his feet and should continue to gain yards after contact. He averaged a healthy 2.68 yards after contact in his debut against the Texans. -- Adam Teicher

NFL.com -- Rank: 1

It's not fair. On a night when Patrick Mahomes averaged a pedestrian 6.6 yards per attempt, Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce were held under 100 yards combined and Clyde Edwards-Helaire finished his first NFL game without a catch, the Chiefs still put up 34 points in an easy win over the Texans. Last season, four different teams went the whole year without scoring 34 points once ... the Chiefs do it when it feels like they're barely paying attention. Edwards-Helaire was the story against Houston, piling up 138 yards and a touchdown on the ground. He is yet another piece of an offense that might be functionally impossible to stop.
