What we learned: Their defense deserves more respect. Andy Reid was feeling himself with his play calls, and Patrick Mahomes was at the peak of his powers, but perhaps what was most impressive about the Chiefs' win over the Ravens on Monday night was their dominant defensive performance. Kansas City allowed just one touchdown on eight possessions. Chris Jones had the big sack/fumble, but the Chiefs got contributions from unheralded players like Damien Wilson, Tedric Thompson and Anthony Hitchens. They held the Ravens to 228 total yards, Baltimore's lowest total in the past two seasons. And according to TruMedia's EPA model, this was the Ravens' worst passing game of the past two seasons. Per a source, Steve Spagnuolo's group was extra motivated, knowing that the Monday night game would determine which team would be first in our power rankings this week. Congrats to the Chiefs.

Huge win Monday night in Baltimore could very well mean AFC road to Super Bowl LV literally runs through Kansas City in January. Champs proved downgrading them to No. 2 last week was an egregious mistake. Now they're on to next major challenge: New England.

What we got wrong: The defense would pick up where it left off last season.
The Chiefs entered Monday night's game 28th in yards allowed but sixth in scoring defense, so the results have been mixed. In their first two games, the Chiefs weren't as solid defensively as they were down the stretch last season. They could still get there, and Monday night was a big step, but if it eventually happens, it will have taken more time than initially thought. -- Adam Teicher

Statement Game? Statement Game. The Chiefs went to Baltimore on Monday night and punched the Ravens in the mouth. The man landing the majority of those uppercuts and overhand rights was -- of course -- the great Patrick Mahomes, who accounted for five touchdowns in another dominant performance. Kansas City's underrated defense deserves praise, as well, holding Lamar Jackson under 100 yards passing in a deeply frustrating evening for the reigning MVP. Baltimore's leading receiver was running back J.K. Dobbins, who had 38 yards in a safety-valve role. The Chiefs haven't lost since last November ... and they don't look ready to end that streak any time soon.
