The Athletic -- Rank: 19
It was surprising to see this week that they plan on going to Tua Tagovailoa after their bye. My take is that they wouldn't make this move if they felt Tagovailoa would be a big dropoff from Ryan Fitzpatrick. The Dolphins' plus-47 point differential is tops in the AFC East and fourth-best in the conference. Miami's defense is all the way up to 13th in EPA per snap. They have a legitimate shot at the postseason, and we've seen other rookie quarterbacks like Joe Burrow and Justin Herbert play well this season. Since their 0-7 start last season, the Dolphins are 8-7 under Brian Flores.

How about CB Xavien Howard, who doesn't get sufficient recognition. He's picked off a pass in four consecutive games and has a league-high 12 interceptions since 2018.

Jones missed nearly three games with a groin injury suffered in the opening snaps of a Week 2 loss to the Bills, and his absence clearly affected the Dolphins' pass defense. In the three full games Jones has played, the Dolphins allowed an average of 139 passing yards and 12.7 points per contest, with a record of 2-1. In the nearly three games Jones missed, the Dolphins yielded 333 passing yards and 25 points per contest. More than anything, Jones' presence is allowing Xavien Howard to feast. The Dolphins are an easy team to root for right now. Late in a 24-0 drubbing of the winless Jets, Miami's second consecutive blowout victory, Tua Tagovailoa entered the game to loud cheers from the smattering of Dolphins fans permitted inside Hard Rock Stadium. Leading the cheering section? None other than Ryan Fitzpatrick, the gregarious veteran QB who will one day be moved out of the starting lineup to make room for the first-round pick. It's all positive vibes for Brian Flores' team, which has moved ahead of the Patriots and right behind the Bills in the AFC East. Miami's defense stood out against New York, holding Adam Gase's absurd offense to just 263 yards without a point. Up next after the Week 7 bye: a measuring stick game at home against the 4-2 Rams.
