Below expectations: If I would have told Cowboys fans in August that the highlight of their season was going to be Mike McCarthy smashing watermelons during a team meeting before a Week 11 win over the Vikings that got them to 3-7, well, I think it's safe to say they would have been disappointed. From the 1-3 start with Dak Prescott to the Ben DiNucci game to the ill-conceived fake punt on Thanksgiving, the first year of the McCarthy era has been mostly a disaster. Dallas' offseason could include a top-five draft pick and another decision on Prescott's future. Let's see how McCarthy makes out in 2021.

Aside from recuperating QB Dak Prescott, All-Pro OL Zack Martin was arguably the player Dallas could least afford to lose as it tries to remain playoff-viable.

No, it's the most important game because that will mark the end of one the franchise's most disappointing seasons and allow it to turn its attention to 2021. From injuries to poor play to questionable coaching decisions, this season has been one to forget. The quicker it's over for the Cowboys, the better. Last week on the Around the NFL Podcast, I offered up a breakdown on the job-security level of each head coach entering the final stretch of the regular season. Mike McCarthy was in my "50/50" category -- I believed there was a coin-flip chance he'd be one-and-done in Dallas. That scenario might have ticked up to 60/40 after a grim Thanksgiving performance that included a wild fake-punt gambit that could've sunk the season. Sure, the loss of both starting tackles in one drive was another reminder of Dallas' brutal injury luck this season, but that can't totally absolve McCarthy. Jerry Jones is 78 and he sees other teams -- most recently, the Lions -- taking aggressive steps to improve their team on the sideline. Will he still feel McCarthy is the right guy if the Cowboys finish this absurd season in the NFC East basement?
