Los Angeles Chargers Post-Draft 2023 NFL Power Rankings Roundup

Throughout the 2023 NFL season, we will compile a consensus NFL Power Rankings that averages the rankings of all 32 NFL teams.

Below you will find a post-draft roundup for the Los Angeles Chargers in our consensus 2023 NFL Power Rankings.

ESPN -- Rank: 9

Most improved: Wide receiver

The Chargers have wide receivers Keenan Allen and Mike Williams, but what about speed and a deep-threat playmaker who can stretch a defense and create more explosiveness? The Bolts answered that question when they drafted Quentin Johnston No. 21 overall.

Johnston joins an established group, but is expected as a rookie to be a playmaker capable of getting open deep downfield. His arrival immediately helps quarterback Justin Herbert and the Bolts' other playmakers who will see more space to operate with a defense having to respect a potential deep play.

NFL.com -- Rank: 13

The Chargers entered the draft with talent at wide receiver, but that talent is also aging and injury prone. Enter TCU wide receiver Quentin Johnston, a first-round selection who should give Justin Herbert and his bionic arm a big-bodied target with explosive playmaking ability. In the fourth round, the Bolts added Johnson's TCU teammate, Derius Davis. He profiles as a replacement for DeAndre Carter, who defected for the Raiders in free agency. With running back Austin Ekeler more likely to return than not -- his request for a trade hasn't produced a nibble -- new offensive coordinator Kellen Moore will have plenty to work with.

CBS Sports -- Rank: 10

As usual, the Chargers will enter the season with high expectations. Is this the year that they live up those? The talent is there if they stay healthy.

USA Today -- Rank: 11

Hopefully RB Austin Ekeler doesn't join a lengthy line of Bolts whose financial situation wound up undercutting the team at large ... because, yet again, the talent is here to do serious playoff damage.

The Athletic -- Rank: 12

Draft takeaway: Quentin Johnston gives Justin Herbert another big body at wide receiver, even if the scouting reports suggest he plays a little below his size. Anything to make sure the team gets the most out of Herbert's prodigious talents.

Hype man: Of all the transactions across the league this offseason, the biggest bump of addition by subtraction is still us moving on from Joe Lombardi as offensive coordinator. Finally, we'll get to see Herbert show what he can do with a grown-up in charge. Hella pumped for the season, bro.

Derwin Downer: The last time a wide receiver from TCU was drafted No. 21 overall, the Eagles took Jalen Reagor one spot before Justin Jefferson. Get your Flowers rookie of the year bets in now.

PFF -- Rank: 8

Johnston forced 19 missed tackles on just 60 receptions and averaged 17.8 yards per catch in 2022. Among the projected first-round wide receivers, Johnston led the way in yards after the catch per reception and missed tackles forced per reception — two areas the Chargers underperformed in last year. He should be an instant contributor and add a vertical element to the team that has been missing for quite some time.

PFT -- Rank: 15

You can't unsee blowing a 27-0 playoff lead and losing to the Jags, which makes the resuscitation of pricy cornerback J.C. Jackson vital after his lost 2022 season.
