Gutekunst drafted Jordan Love and is the one who decided it was time to move on from Rodgers. The Packers don't have to make the playoffs -- or even have a winning record this season -- for Gutekunst to be vindicated, but Love must show enough promise to indicate the decision to start over at quarterback was the right one. The Packers' reported interest in Jonathan Taylor is interesting -- and I am not sure it has abated. The Colts resisted trading Taylor before cutdowns, but it doesn't feel like anything is settled in Indianapolis. The Packers' full youth movement is wild and exciting to watch unfold; on offense, David Bakhtiari (31) and Aaron Jones (28) are the only expected starters over the age of 27. Adding the 24-year-old Taylor only would make them younger. Could this play out as a transition season for Jordan Love and the Packers, similar to Aaron Rodgers' first year starting in 2008? After that 6-10 campaign, Green Bay enjoyed a decade-plus of steady contention.

With Aaron Rodgers gone, most think the Packers will fall off a great deal. Not with that defense and running game. Jordan Love will play well enough in his first year as a starter.

Best-case scenario: It can't be this easy, can it? And yet, it looks like Green Bay has done it again, as Jordan Love's first season as starting quarterback gives the Packers hope that they'll chase Brett Favre and Rodgers with another decade-plus franchise leader. Against a generous early-season schedule, Love looks polished from the get-go despite his young weapons on offense, and Christian Watson becomes one of the league's most exciting big-play receivers. On defense, things finally seem to add up to the sum of their parts, with Rashan Gary and Jaire Alexander leading a top-10 unit. Much to the chagrin of the fans in Detroit and Chicago who thought Rodgers' departure meant things were finally looking up, the Packers return to the top of the NFC North.
Worst-case scenario: The good people of Green Bay are subjected to multiple games of Sean Clifford at quarterback. Too much inexperience on offense makes everything look disjointed, and the defense underperforms its talent level again. Justin Fields runs for 200 yards in the regular-season finale as the Bears clinch the division at Lambeau Field.

Who knows how it will go, but it just feels fun that things are different in Green Bay. I was a sophomore in high school when Aaron Rodgers was drafted, and I was a sophomore in college when he took over as the Packers' starter. Now, as my back pain gets worse and I inch perilously close to 40, it's Jordan Love's turn. Is it weird if I have more faith in the young, unproven offense than the defense that's famously loaded with eight first-round draft picks?

It's probably confirmation bias, but I loved what I saw out of the Packers in the preseason. In particular, Jordan Love looked like he has made a big step. Whenever I was asked this offseason which team I thought would exceed expectations most, my answer was the Packers. Nothing I saw in August lessened my enthusiasm.
