Dallas Cowboys 2024 NFL power rankings post-draft roundup

Throughout the 2024 NFL season, we will compile a consensus NFL Power Rankings that averages the rankings of all 32 NFL teams.

Below you will find a post-NFL draft roundup for the Dallas Cowboys in our consensus 2024 NFL Power Rankings.

ESPN -- Rank: 11

Most improved: Linebacker

So much of the Dallas offseason has been about players the team lost instead of players it has added, and there are questions at running back, offensive line, defensive line and wide receiver and in the secondary. Linebacker is really the only answer. The Cowboys signed Eric Kendricks to quarterback Mike Zimmer's defense. They welcome DeMarvion Overshown back from a knee injury. They drafted Marist Liufau in the third round. Basically it comes down to this: They will have linebackers playing linebacker with Markquese Bell moving back to safety. -- Todd Archer

They had an interesting draft -- no defensive tackle until Round 7 and no running back at all, but a clear emphasis on bolstering an offensive line that's in transition. I endorse that last element. With refinement, Tyler Guyton could be a prototypical Cowboys monster at tackle. Landing Cooper Beebe with the 73rd overall pick felt like highway robbery, especially if he ends up being Dallas' starting center Day 1. Throw in edge Marshawn Kneeland and wideout Ryan Flournoy, and this was a draft class I mostly could get behind. Now, did the 'Boys punt on taking an RB in the draft because Jerry Jones wants Ezekiel Elliott back? If so, I am less enthused. Dallas is the first team on this list that I can't call a certified Super Bowl contender, at least with how things stand right now. Good team, yes. But a great one? I'm not quite there yet.

CBS Sports -- Rank: 13

The supposed all-in offseason hasn't exactly lived up to that hype. They will essentially be the same group from a year ago, which means the same story: Pressure on Dak Prescott and Mike McCarthy to win a few playoff games.

USA Today -- Rank: 18

Maybe the "all in" mantra for 2024 should be replaced by "lame duck"? What better way to exemplify the state of affairs for HC Mike McCarthy and QB Dak Prescott than drafting the left tackle of the future, Tyler Guyton, before signing the running back of the past, Zeke Elliott, rather than obtaining fresh legs ... or any players that seem especially ready to contribute immediately.

The Athletic -- Rank: 7

For 51 weeks of the year, it feels like the Cowboys are all over the map. Somebody, usually the owner, is saying quizzical things. Expectations are being elevated and then left unmet. And then comes draft week, and Cowboys just quietly go about doing a very good job. It's why they get away with all the other stuff. Dallas got value with all three of its top picks, and second-round edge rusher Marshawn Kneeland could be a star. (Adding back Ezekiel Elliott in free agency doesn't move the needle much at this point.)

Fox Sports -- Rank: 12

Let's be clear: The Cowboys should still be a good team, with a strong chance of making the playoffs. It's just hard to see the improvement from 2023. Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb and Micah Parsons can still take you a long way, but the Cowboys lost seven key members of last year's team and haven't done much to replace them. Are Eric Kendricks, Ezekiel Elliott and a handful of rookies enough to get over the hump?
