Dallas Cowboys 2023 Fantasy Football Projections

Dak Prescott: Prescott missed five games after getting injured in the season opener. From Week 7 (when he returned from injury) through the end of the season, Prescott was fantasy's QB6 — QB7 on a PPG basis. Even without Dalton Schultz as a security blanket, Prescott's overall weapons are improved with a better WR2 (Brandin Cooks). In addition, Michael Gallup should be better, now that he's another year removed from his ACL tear.

Tony Pollard: Sharing the workload with Ezekiel Elliott, Pollard rushed for 1,007 yards and nine touchdowns and added 39 catches for 371 yards and another three touchdowns. With Elliott no longer on the roster (and now a Patriot), Pollard enters 2023 as a strong RB1 in fantasy drafts.

Deuce Vaughn: Malik Davis was arguably the favorite for RB2 duties at an earlier point of training camp, but he was cut and then re-signed to the practice squad. Both Vaughn and Rico Dowdle will back up and complement Pollard.

CeeDee Lamb: After Amari Cooper was traded to the Browns last offseason, Lamb stepped into the WR1 role and shattered previous career highs with 107 receptions for 1,359 yards and nine touchdowns on 156 targets. Lamb finished as fantasy's WR6 in half-PPR scoring in 2022, and he was the WR3 from Weeks 7-18 when Dak Prescott returned from injury.

Brandin Cooks: Now onto his fifth NFL team, Cooks has logged six 1,000-yard seasons, at least one of which came with all four of his previous teams. Coming off a disappointing 57/699/3 season in 2022, Cooks should improve upon last year's numbers and is a viable fantasy WR3.

Michael Gallup: Gallup missed only the first three games of 2022, but his production was abysmal (39/424/4 in the regular season). Including two playoff games, he had less than 50 receiving yards in 15 of 16 games. Getting back to an 1,100-yard season (2019) is highly unlikely, especially with Cooks added to the receiving corps, but he should be better in 2023 now that he's another year removed from his torn ACL.

Jalen Tolbert: Tolbert had a disappointing rookie season, but the second-year receiver had a strong offseason. Even if he is the "most improved player on roster," it will take an injury to one of the team's top three receivers for Tolbert to become fantasy-relevant in 2023.

Jake Ferguson: The Cowboys used a second-round pick on Luke Schoonmaker, but Ferguson should pace the position group in receiving with Dalton Schultz now in Houston. Dak Prescott has recently said that Ferguson is going to become a "big-time player in this league." Ferguson is a good bet to outperform his average draft position, which has steadily risen over the past month.

Trey Lance: The No. 3 overall pick in 2022, Lance has dual-threat upside if he gets the opportunity to make any starts in 2023, but that would obviously require an injury (or perhaps a Week 18 rest for starters). But would he start over Cooper Rush if called into action in 2023?

Tony Pollard: Sharing the workload with Ezekiel Elliott, Pollard rushed for 1,007 yards and nine touchdowns and added 39 catches for 371 yards and another three touchdowns. With Elliott no longer on the roster (although there is at least a chance the still-unsigned Elliott could return), Pollard enters 2023 as a mid-tier RB1 in fantasy drafts.

Malik Davis: Maybe the Cowboys will bring back Ezekiel Elliott, who is still a free agent, but as The Athletic's Jon Machota wrote in June, Davis is "the most likely candidate to back up Pollard." Since then, Ronald Jones II was suspended for two games. Davis had 38 carries for 161 yards and a touchdown last season in addition to six catches for 63 yards.

Houston Texans Fantasy Football Projections 2022

Davis Mills: Considering the circumstances, Mills exceeded his 2021 expectations. The third-round rookie completed slightly more than two-thirds of his pass attempts while throwing 16 touchdowns to 10 interceptions over 13 games. Entering his second season as the clear starter, there is an opportunity to build upon last year's production even if he isn't yet a fantasy-viable option outside of two-QB and Super Flex leagues.

Rex Burkhead: In his first season with the Texans, Burkhead had 122 carries for 427 yards and three touchdowns and added 25 catches for 186 yards. He now has 25-plus catches in three consecutive seasons and four of the past five. While he may rank third on the team in carries, Burkhead should handle the vast majority of pass-down reps.

Marlon Mack: In 2018 and 2019 combined, Mack rushed for 1,999 yards and 17 touchdowns on 442 carries (4.52 YPC). Since then, he has appeared in just seven games with a total of 37 scoreless touches and he appears to behind Pierce (early downs) and Burkhead (third downs) for snaps to enter the season.

Brandin Cooks: Cooks has eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark in back-to-back seasons and six of the past seven. In addition, he has finished as a top-20 fantasy receiver in six of the past seven seasons. As the team's clear go-to receiver, he'll be a reliable WR2 for fantasy managers in 2022 with the upside to outperform his draft status.

Nico Collins: As a rookie, Collins finished with 33 catches for 445 yards and a touchdown. With John Metchie III (acute promyelocytic leukemia) expected to miss the 2022 season, it opens up opportunities for Collins to make a second-year jump. (On a positive -- and more important -- note, Metchie described APL as "the most curable form of Leukemia" and he expects to "make a recovery at a later point in time.")

Brevin Jordan: Jordan made his NFL debut in Week 8 and finished with 20 catches for 178 yards and three touchdowns. While those aren't prolific numbers, he was fantasy's TE24 in half-PPR scoring from Week 8 on. Atop the team's depth chart heading into his second season, there is some sleeper appeal with the former Hurricane, especially in TE-premium formats.

Davis Mills: Considering the circumstances, Mills exceeded expectations in 2021. Dameon Pierce: Pierce never exceeded 106 carries in any season in Gainesville, but the former Gator has featured-back size who runs with physicality and good contact balance. Like with Marlon Mack, there could be an opportunity for Pierce to seize a larger share of the workload than expected and outperform his ADP. It's likely that Pierce sees his role expand as the season progresses, even if he's behind Mack (and/or Rex Burkhead) to start the season.

Marlon Mack: In 2018 and 2019 combined, Mack rushed for 1,999 yards and 17 touchdowns on 442 carries (4.52 YPC). Since then, he has appeared in just seven games with a total of 37 scoreless touches. Signed to a $2 million, one-year deal, Mack could outperform his ADP as part of a three-headed running back committee that currently lacks a clear top guy.

Fantasy Football Half-PPR Mock Draft 2022: 12 Teams, 2nd Pick

The best way to become good at something is to practice. So, what should you do if you want to draft a better fantasy football team?

Practice, of course!

Leading up to the start of the 2022 NFL season, we will use the 2022 Fantasy Football Mock Draft Simulator (powered by FantasyPros) to complete fantasy football mock drafts.

We will use a variety of scoring formats -- PPR, half-PPR, standard scoring and even 2-QB leagues, league sizes and draft slots. The goal is to give you a good representation of the team that you may be able to construct given your league settings and the rationale of why we made the picks we did.

That said, nothing beats practicing yourself so (check out the simulator) and complete a mock in a matter of minutes.

Half-PPR Mock Draft: 12 Teams, 2nd Pick

1.02 - Christian McCaffrey, RB, Carolina Panthers

McCaffrey has played just 10 games over the past two seasons combined. In those 10 games, he has averaged 115.9 scrimmage yards, 5.4 receptions and 0.8 touchdowns per game. Before that, CMC led the NFL in scrimmage yards (2,392), touchdowns (19) and touches (403) in 2019 and became the third player in NFL history to reach the 1,000-yard rushing and receiving milestones in the same season. If his health cooperates, he has as high of a ceiling and floor as any running back.

2.11 - Tyreek Hill, WR, Miami Dolphins

Tua Tagovailoa is a winner following Hill's trade to Miami, but that's not the case for Hill given the quarterback downgrade from Patrick Mahomes. Hill set a career high in receptions (111) last year and a non-rookie low in Y/R (11.2). In this mock draft, Hill is the WR9.

3.02 - Cam Akers, RB, Los Angeles Rams

Closing his rookie 2020 campaign with 94 touches for 436 yards from scrimmage over his final four games, Akers was poised to enter 2021 as the team's featured back before an Achilles injury forced him to miss nearly all of last season. Provided his health cooperates, Akers has tremendous upside as the lead back in one of the league's most potent offenses.

4.11 - Brandin Cooks, WR, Houston Texans

Cooks has eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark in back-to-back seasons and six of the past seven. In addition, he has finished as a top-20 fantasy receiver in six of the past seven seasons. As the team's clear go-to receiver, he'll be a reliable WR2 for fantasy managers in 2022.

5.02 - Chris Godwin, WR, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Godwin missed the final three games of the season after tearing his ACL, but he still finished with 98 catches for 1,103 yards and five touchdowns in only 14 games. While it's not definitive that he'll be ready for Week 1, there has been some optimism that he could be on the field in Dallas for Week 1.

6.11 - Miles Sanders, RB, Philadelphia Eagles

Sanders has missed at least four games in back-to-back seasons, but he's averaged 5.4 yards per carry on the 301 rush attempts he's handled over that span. There is plenty of upside with Sanders at the end of Round 6.

7.02 - T.J. Hockenson, TE, Detroit Lions

Hockenson missed five games last season, but he set per-game career highs in receptions (5.1) and yards (48.6) as well as catch rate (72.6%). Given the additions to the receiving corps (D.J. Chark and Jameson Williams), it's likely that Jared Goff won't rely as heavily on Hockenson this year, but he was my top-ranked TE available at this point.

8.11 - Tom Brady, QB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Brady retired, then unretired, after leading the NFL in pass attempts (719), passing yards (5,316) and touchdowns (43) in his age-44 season. Not only did he throw for a career-high 5,316 yards in the NFL's first 17-game season, but his per-game average (312.7 yards) was the second best of his NFL career. Even though his rushing production is minimal in this era of dual-threat quarterbacks, his prolific passing stats propelled him to fantasy's QB3 in 2021 and he remains a viable QB1 at 45 years old (in August).

9.02 - Chase Claypool, WR, Pittsburgh Steelers

Claypool's targets, receptions and yards were nearly identical in his first two seasons. What wasn't nearly identical were the touchdowns. Claypool scored 11 times, counting two rushing scores, as a rookie, but only twice in 2021. Given his elite height, weight and speed profile, a regression to the mean in touchdown performance is likely.

10.11 - Jakobi Meyers, WR, New England Patriots

The good news is that Meyers finally scored a touchdown, actually two of them, to go along with 126 targets, 83 catches and 866 yards in 2021. Even with the Patriots trading for DeVante Parker, there's a decent chance that Meyers will lead the team in target share, receptions and yards, but the lack of scoring gives him little upside.

11.02 - Raheem Mostert, RB, Miami Dolphins

Mostert follows Mike McDaniel from San Francisco and has made the most of his opportunities, when healthy. The problem, of course, is that durability has often eluded him. Mostert missed almost all of 2021 with a knee injury and played just eight games in 2020. If he's able to stay healthy for (close to) a full season, he should outperform his ADP.

12.11 - Tyler Allgeier, RB, Atlanta Falcons

The draft pedigree (fifth round) doesn't scream featured back, but he has the frame (5'11", 224 pounds), power and vision to shoulder a heavy workload. A former linebacker (26 tackles in 2019 at BYU) as well, Allgeier was highly productive over the past two seasons with 2,731 rushing yards and 36 touchdowns over that stretch.

13.02 - Khalil Herbert, RB, Chicago Bears

Herbert showed what he could do during Montgomery's four-game absence, as the rookie totaled 78 carries for 344 yards and a touchdown with nine receptions for 44 yards. Herbert was fantasy's RB16 over that stretch. Outside of that four-game span, however, Herbert never exceeded four carries or five touches.

14.11 - 49ers DST, San Francisco 49ers

15.02 - Chuba Hubbard, RB, Carolina Panthers

CMC is elite when he's on the field, but he's missed the majority of the past two seasons. Hubbard provides some insurance in the event of another McCaffrey injury.

Houston Texans Week 17 NFL Power Rankings Roundup

Throughout the 2021 NFL season, we will compile a consensus NFL Power Rankings that averages the rankings of all 32 NFL teams.

Here is where the Houston Texans rank in terms of average, best and worst:

Average ranking: 28 (28th)

Below you will find a Week 17 roundup for the Texans in our consensus 2021 NFL Power Rankings.

ESPN -- Rank: 28

Non-QB MVP: WR Brandin Cooks

Coming into the season, it was clear the Texans didn't have a lot of depth at receiver behind Cooks. Although Cooks missed the Texans' Week 16 contest while on the reserve/COVID-19 list -- a game Houston won -- he has been the best player on the team. Cooks is just 55 yards shy of reaching 1,000 receiving yards for the sixth time in his eight NFL campaigns, and this season he has done it with a mix of Tyrod Taylor and 2021 third-round pick Davis Mills at quarterback. Cooks is a leader on the team, and this offense would have struggled even more this season without him. -- Sarah Barshop

The Texans' offense delivered its best performance of the season against the Chargers. Rex Burkhead tore into a vulnerable Chargers run defense for 149 yards and two touchdowns, and Davis Mills completed 21 of 27 passes for 254 yards with two touchdowns and without a turnover. It continued an intriguing run of quality play by Mills, the third-round rookie who has played smart and efficient football since replacing Tyrod Taylor as starter three weeks ago. That doesn't mean the Texans won't be in the market for a QB after they finally part ways with Deshaun Watson, but Mills has earned a chair in the quarterback room going forward.

David Culley has this team playing good football. Davis Mills has impressed and might be their long-term starter if he keeps it up.

USA Today -- Rank: 30

Per the NFL, Mills is the third rookie QB ever with at least 250 passing yards, two TD throws and a 130+ passer rating in multiple games. He joins Robert Griffin III and Justin Herbert ... so clearly this could go one of two ways.

The Athletic -- Rank: 27

Is he The Guy? Deshaun Watson is facing 22 civil suits alleging sexual misconduct, and the Texans paid him to stay away this season, so he is not the guy. Davis Mills has shown enough in the last month to probably get a shot next season, which may end up holding the franchise back further. (Though it's not a great draft class, so maybe the Texans address some other needs and table the QB talk for a year.)

Week 7 Fantasy Football WR Start'em, Sit'em

The decision on which player to start, or sit, largely comes down to the options on your roster (and/or possibly the players available on your league's waiver wire).

As an example, Jaylen Waddle is listed below as a "start" for Week 7. And I'd certainly be comfortable going into Week 7 with him as one of my starting receivers.

Then again, Waddle may be a "sit" for your team.

In other words, if you roster Calvin Ridley, Chris Godwin and Waddle and start only two receivers, you should start Ridley and Godwin and, in turn, bench Waddle.

For a more direct answer on whether we would start Player X over Player Y, check our Week 7 Fantasy Football Rankings. Instead of making those direct comparisons, the goal here is to highlight players that we like, or dislike, for the week.

Week 7 Fantasy Football WR Start'em

Jaylen Waddle, Miami Dolphins (vs. ATL)

Waddle had the best game of his young career last week in London. The first-round rookie converted 10-of-13 targets into a career-high 70 yards and scored his second and third NFL touchdowns.

Especially if DeVante Parker misses another week, Waddle should be peppered with as many targets as he can handle. The Atlanta Falcons have allowed the ninth-most fantasy points to opposing wide receivers this season.

Brandin Cooks, Houston Texans (at ARI)

Cooks had nine catches for 89 yards on 13 targets in Week 6 against the Indianapolis Colts. It was the third time this season that Cooks had nine catches and double-digit targets. Heading into Week 7, Cooks ranks fifth amongst wide receivers in receptions (40), eighth in targets (57) and 11th in receiving yards (481).

The Texans are this week's biggest underdog (18 points), so while their implied total is lowest of the week, the team should be throwing often and Cooks is a target hog (32.76% share). Even if Cooks fails to score his second touchdown of the season, the volume alone keeps him in the WR2 mix.

Sterling Shepard, New York Giants (vs. CAR)

Shepard left Week 3 early as he played only 34% of the team's snaps that week and then missed the next two games. In his other three games (90%-plus snap rates), Shepard had 7/113/1 on nine targets (Week 1), 9/94 on 10 targets (Week 2) and 10/76 on 14 targets (Week 6).

If we only look at the three weeks where Shepard played a full complement of snaps, he scored the ninth-most half-PPR fantasy points. In addition, he was tied with Adam Thielen for the most receptions (26), tied for fourth in targets (33) and was sixth in receiving yards (283) over that timespan.

Jakobi Meyers, New England Patriots (vs. NYJ)

Meyers has a minimum of four catches and five targets in all six games this season. While he has yet to catch a touchdown in his NFL career, Meyers entered Week 7 with the 12th-most targets (52) and 11th-most receptions (36).

Even though he was quiet in his first matchup (4/38) against the New York Jets this season and the Jets have allowed the second-fewest fantasy points to opposing receivers this season, a couple of their games were against teams missing their best receivers. For example, they played the Falcons without Calvin Ridley, the Titans without A.J. Brown and Julio Jones, etc.

In a week with six teams on bye, Meyers consistent volume makes him at least a low-end WR2.

Week 7 Fantasy Football WR Sit'em

Tyler Boyd, Cincinnati Bengals (at BAL)

In Week 4, Boyd had nine catches for 118 yards on 11 targets (34.38%) target share. That game actually extended Boyd's streak of 30% target shares to three games. Since then, however, it's been a much different story.

Boyd had 4/24 on five targets (13.51%) and 1/7 on three targets (10.34%) in Weeks 5 and 6, respectively. What changed in Week 5? Tee Higgins returned from a two-game absence. Over the past two weeks, Boyd (eight) is a distant third among the team's wide receivers in targets behind rookie Ja'Marr Chase (16) and Higgins (13).

Especially against a top-five defense at limiting opposing fantasy wide receivers, it'll be difficult for the Bengals to support three viable wide receivers. Boyd is just outside my top 36 fantasy wide receivers in Week 7.

Brandon Aiyuk, San Francisco 49ers (vs. IND)

Through five games, Aiyuk has eight catches for 90 yards and a touchdown on 15 targets. The second-year receiver had more receiving yards in four of his final seven games played as a rookie.

On a (moderately) positive note, Aiyuk has a 14% target share or better in two of his past three games. If that number continues to trend upward, he would eventually beocme startable again. That said, he has finished outside of the top-75 fantasy wide receivers in four of five weeks. Given his low floor, fantasy managers are wise to continue to take a wait-and-see approach.
