Fantasy Football Week 3 RB Waiver Wire

Every week, we examine players that may be available on your league's waiver wire that could help your team in the short and/or long term.

For a player to be listed, he must be rostered in 50 percent (or less) of Yahoo! leagues. The goal is to provide recommendations of players that have a greater chance of being available on your league's waiver wire. Of course, your league's size and settings could significantly impact whether these players (or better options) are available in your particular league(s).

So that means that players like Tony Pollard (53% rostered) will be excluded from our list due to our self-imposed restrictions, but he's clearly worth adding in your league whether you roster Ezekiel Elliott or not.

With that said, here are some running back waiver-wire options to consider heading into Week 3 (Yahoo! % rostered in parenthesis):

[Note: Players listed below are sorted by our preference to add.]

1. James White, New England Patriots (42%)

Once again, White appears on this list.

In his two final seasons playing with Tom Brady (2018-2019), White had a minimum of 95 targets, 72 receptions and 645 receiving yards each season. Through two games with Mac Jones, White is on pace to better those numbers.

White now has six receptions in back-to-back games and has a total of 32 rushing yards and a touchdown plus 12 receptions for 94 yards on 13 targets. Heading into Monday Night Football, White is fantasy's RB14 (half-PPR) and the RB9 in full PPR formats.

2. Michael Carter, New York Jets (50%)

The UNC rookie generated positive buzz early in camp despite beginning the season as part of an uninspiring three-headed RBBC. Based on talent, it wouldn't be surprising if Carter emerged as an RB3/flex option at some point during the season.

In a game where there were very few bright spots, Carter averaged more than five yards per carry as he gained 59 yards on 11 carries and added a couple of receptions for 29 yards. Through two games, here are the team's running back touches: Carter (18), Ty Johnson (17) and Tevin Coleman (14). Johnson had 12 carries for 50 yards on Sunday.

The Jets have a difficult matchup against the Denver Broncos in Week 3, but they face softer matchups in Weeks 4 (Tennessee Titans) and 5 (Atlanta Falcons).

3. J.D. McKissic, Washington Football Team (29%)

McKissic was a non-factor in Week 1 (one carry for eight yards), but the usage was much better in Week 2. Not only did he haul in five catches for 83 yards on six targets, but he added 10 rushing yards and a score as well.

Antonio Gibson had five targets in Week 1, but he only had two in Week 2. That's clearly frustrating for those that roster Gibson, but McKissic is one of the league's best receiving backs and only Alvin Kamara (83) had more receptions than McKissic (80) in 2020.

4. Cordarrelle Patterson, Atlanta Falcons (13%)

A RB/WR hybrid in fantasy, Patterson now has seven carries in back-to-back games. Even though he gained only 11 yards on his seven carries this week, he added five catches for 58 yards and scored a pair of touchdowns against the Buccaneers.

Mike Davis has had at least 16 touches in each of the team's first two games this season, but C-Patt has a total of 21 touches through two weeks. With Wayne Gallman a healthy scratch, the only other back to get touches this season has been Keith Smith (seven).

On his fifth team since entering the league in 2015, Davis has career averages of 3.7 YPC and 6.5 Y/R. Through his first two games as a Falcon, he's averaging just 3.63 YPC and 4.8 Y/R. Patterson may never be the team's RB1 as long as Davis is healthy, but if he continues to be much more efficient than Davis, it's not an impossibility either.

5. Peyton Barber, Las Vegas Raiders (10%)

As uncomfortable as I'd be having to start Barber, the journeyman back handled the bulk of early-down opportunities in the absence of Josh Jacobs in Week 2. If Jacobs isn't available in Week 3, it's possible that Barber sees another 10-15 carries. Jon Gruden has called Jacobs "very questionable" for Week 3.

Fantasy Football Projections 2021: Washington Football Team

Our 2021 Fantasy Football Projections will be viewable by both position and team.

Below you will find our 2021 fantasy football projections for the Washington Football Team.

QUARTERBACKS

Taylor Heinicke51.232355.82.31.646.329.60.1924.25

Ryan Fitzpatrick: While I project WFT to draft a QB in the first round of my 2022 NFL Mock Draft, the fact that they didn't add any competition in this year's draft for Fitzpatrick makes him one of my favorite late-round streamers at the position. Meanwhile, Washington upgraded their receiving corps by signing Curtis Samuel and Adam Humphries and drafting Dyami Brown in the third round.

RUNNING BACKS

Peyton Barber31.71031.2717.1019.13
Jaret Patterson8.5370.261.914.20.18.23

Antonio Gibson: Before suffering a turf toe injury early in his Week 13 matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Gibson had a five-game stretch where he performed as fantasy's RB5, RB11, RB8, RB7 and RB2, respectively. Even without adjusting for Washington's Week 8 bye, only Dalvin Cook and Derrick Henry scored more fantasy points during that stretch. Gibson has tremendous upside in his second season and coach Ron Rivera recently said of Gibson "I expect he can make a big jump."

J.D. McKissic: McKissic ranked top three on the team in receptions (80), targets (110) and receiving yards (589) in 2020 and only Alvin Kamara (83) had more receptions among running backs. With a quarterback less likely to check down and Gibson's ability as a receiver (and likely increased target share), there will likely be much fewer opportunities for McKissic in 2021.

WIDE RECEIVERS

Kelvin Harmon4.147.40.20007.99
Steven Sims3.1380.30.43.20.027.59

Terry McLaurin: While the team's quarterback play hasn't done him many favors, McLaurin managed to set career highs with 87 catches and 1,118 yards in his second season. While his Y/R dipped to 12.9 from 15.8, he set career highs in YPG (74.5) and catch rate (64.9%). Even though WFT didn't draft a QB in April, signing Ryan Fitzpatrick in free agency boosts McLaurin's outlook and puts him squarely in the WR1 (top 12) mix.

Curtis Samuel: Across scoring formats, Samuel was a top-25 receiver in 2020 despite playing with D.J. Moore and Robby Anderson, both of whom outscored Samuel in half-PPR formats. Samuel set career highs in receptions (77), receiving yards (851) and rushing yards (200) in 2020. Immediately slotting in as WFT's WR2 behind Terry McLaurin, Samuel is once again a viable WR3 in fantasy.

Deon Yelder2.930.80.20005.73
John Bates1.7190.10003.35

Logan Thomas: Thomas was the only tight end in the league to have a minimum of four targets in every game last season. While he was consistent throughout the season, he was especially productive down the stretch.

From Weeks 6 to 17, Thomas scored the third-most fantasy points with 58 receptions (third-most), 564 yards (third-most) and five touchdowns (tied fifth-most) amongst tight ends. Last year's breakout tight end will enter 2021 as a viable top-10 option even with the team bolstering its receiving corps via the draft and free agency.

PlayerAtt.Comp.YardsTDINTRushYardsTDPoints
Dwayne Haskins492.7311.63424.320.9413.833.81420.68211.41
Starting seven games as a rookie, Haskins averaged just 175.0 passing yards per game and 6.77 per attempt while throwing seven touchdowns and three interceptions. Learning a new offense in such an unusual offseason could make it even more difficult for Haskins to take big steps forward in his sophomore campaign.

Antonio Gibson139.16194.5240.9370.12.66141.99
Gibson possesses a superior combination of athleticism (4.39 forty) for his size (228 pounds) and broke tackles at a ridiculous rate (33 on 77 career touches) at Memphis. With both Derrius Guice and Adrian Peterson released, the (early) third-rounder enters 2020 atop the team's fantasy depth chart at running back. Earlier this offseason, Ron Rivera said Gibson has "a skill set like Christian (McCaffrey)."
Bryce Love97.8420.51.9613.4111.20.3466.97

Terry McLaurin74.11052.26.11000141.88
Beginning his career with five consecutive 50-yard games including a pair of 100-yard performances, McLaurin was quick to emerge as the team's top receiver. Finishing his rookie campaign with 58 catches for 919 yards and seven touchdowns in 14 games, McLaurin should be even better in 2020 as Dwayne Haskins, McLaurin's former Ohio State teammate, becomes more comfortable as the starter.
Steven Sims53.4539.33.473.824.70.1978.36
Down the stretch, Sims closed 2019 with at least seven targets, four receptions and 40 yards in each of the final four games. During that span, he hauled in 20 of his 36 targets for 230 yards and four touchdowns for the ninth-most fantasy points (half-PPR).

Jameis Winston570.6362.34593.327.9618.2658.2209.52.33293.98
Starting only nine games last season, Winston set career highs in completion percentage (64.6), yards per attempt (7.9) and TD% (5.0), but he also set a career high in INT% (3.7). Winston needs to cut down on turnovers, but Tampa's passing offense should rank near the top of the league once again.

RUNNING BACKS

PlayerAtt.YardsTDRec.YardsTDPoints
Ronald Jones153.9661.8529.3199.21.47124.92
Terrible may be too kind of a word to describe Jones' rookie season -- 77 yards from scrimmage, 1.9 YPC and 4.7 Y/R. Without adding any serious competition to the backfield, last year's 38th-overall pick is in position to put his 2018 season behind him. He gets a fresh start with a new coaching staff and the new staff is excited about his progress this offseason.
Peyton Barber166.8633.84.5928.31670.85112.72
Averaging just 3.7 yards per carry as the team's starter in 2018, Barber got a sizable workload -- 234 carries and 20 receptions -- and finished as fantasy's RB26 (RB31 in PPR). That volume is sure to decrease in 2019 as the workload split between Barber and Jones will be more evenly split.

Mike Evans80.81284.78.16000177.43
Along with Randy Moss and A.J. Green, Evans is one of three NFL players to begin his career with five consecutive 1,000-yard seasons. In addition, Evans set career highs in yards (1,524), yards per reception (17.7) and yards per target (11.0) last season.
Chris Godwin68.41002.15.99000136.15
Productive when given the opportunity, Godwin is poised to take another big step forward with DeSean Jackson now back in Philadelphia. Over the past two seasons, D-Jax has missed six games and Godwin has 98-plus yards in four of those games. Coach Bruce Arians has described the 23-year-old wideout as someone who could be "close to a 100-catch guy."

TIGHT ENDS

PlayerRec.YardsTDRushYardsTDPoints
O.J. Howard55860.86.6000125.68
Injury has cut each of his first two seasons short, but Howard has averaged exactly 16.6 yards per reception in both of those seasons. Extrapolating last year's production over 16 games, Howard would have posted a 54/904/8 stat line. Howard is the clear-cut next-best option after the top three in my early 2019 fantasy projections. As Jameis Winston says, the "moon" is the limit for the third-year tight end.
Cameron Brate41.1431.64.5200070.28
If Howard misses any time, Brate would be a back-end TE1 option otherwise he's little more than a TD-dependent play (like most tight ends). The good news is that Brate has 22 touchdowns and a minimum of six per season over the past three years.

2018 Fantasy Football RB Waiver-Wire Options Heading Into Week 7

Every week, we examine players that may be available on your league's waiver wire that could help your team in the short and/or long term.

For a player to be listed, he must be owned in 50 percent (or less) of Yahoo! leagues. The goal is to provide recommendations of players that have a greater chance of being available on your league's waiver wire. Of course, your league's size and settings could significantly impact whether these players (or better options) are available in your particular league(s).

Embed from Getty Images

With that said, here are some running back waiver-wire options that I like heading into Week 7 (Yahoo! ownership in parenthesis):

[Note: Players listed below are sorted by my preference to add.]

1. Peyton Barber, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (33 percent)

Raise your hand if you expected Barber to take a back seat to rookie Ronald Jones in Week 6 -- or at least have fewer touches than the rookie once again. (Me too.) Before the bye, Jones had three more touches than Barber, who had generally disappointed through the first four games of the season -- 2.96 yards per carry on his 50 carries (Week 1 to 4).

Instead of Jones handling a larger percentage of the workload, it was (almost) all Barber. The former UDFA from Auburn carried the ball 13 times for 82 yards and added four receptions for 24 yards and a touchdown in Week 6. On the other hand, Jones had one carry for three yards and three catches for 16 yards. At this point, Jones is nothing more than a stash until/unless he earns a more consistent workload.

2. Latavius Murray, Minnesota Vikings (49 percent)

Dalvin Cook owners should own Murray, but if he's available in your league, he would be worth a start in Week 7 if Cook misses another game. There have been other situations where Murray seemed destined for a big performance only to disappoint, but he delivered for fantasy owners in Week 6 with 24 carries for 155 yards and a touchdown. It's unclear whether Cook will play in Week 7, especially given the fact that it sounded as though he would play (albeit on a snap count) in Week 6.

3. Frank Gore, Miami Dolphins (10 percent)

With double-digit carries in each of the past three games, Gore set season highs with 15 carries for 101 yards in Sunday's win over the Bears. Technically, Kenyan Drake (17) had more touches than Gore (16), who also had a three-week low share of the team's carries (48.39%), but I'm not sure why Gore is still owned in just 10 percent of Yahoo! leagues. In standard-scoring formats, Gore is the RB21, RB34 and RB14 (through SNF) over the past three weeks, respectively.

Now that we enter the point of the season with more than two teams on bye, Gore could certainly be a start for fantasy owners in Week 7 against the Lions. Through Sunday's games, the Lions have allowed the third-most fantasy points to opposing running backs, who have gashed Detroit for a league-most 5.98 yards per carry (to RBs).

4. Marlon Mack, Indianapolis Colts (26 percent)

Making just his second appearance this season, Mack led the team with 12 carries for 89 yards and added a four-yard reception. Mack's 13 touches were more than the rest of the backfield combined -- Nyheim Hines (five) and Robert Turbin (five). Mack has double-digit carries in both games that he has played and assuming he can stay healthy, he should lead Indy's backfield in workload going forward. The next two games -- vs. BUF and at OAK -- are both winnable games where the Colts may try to run the ball more often.

5. Ito Smith, Atlanta Falcons ( percent)

An inefficient 13-touch, 21-yard outing from Smith was turned into a relatively successful fantasy performance since he extended his touchdown streak to three games. On a positive note, it was a season-high 13 touches for Smith and he now has double-digit touches in three of the four games that Devonta Freeman has missed. At this point, the Falcons are expected to be without Freeman (foot) for at least one more week. The Falcons host the Giants on Monday Night Football in Week 7.

6. Jalen Richard, Oakland Raiders (8 percent)

If you're in a full PPR league, Richard should be rostered. Through Week 6, Richard has finished as a top-30 PPR back four times and has averaged 9.92 PPR points per game. With more than 18-percent target share in four of six games, Richard now has 37 targets that he has converted into 31 catches for 253 yards and that's despite a receiving goose egg in Week 2. Tight end Jared Cook is the only Raider with more targets (43) or receptions (32) than Richard.

2018 Fantasy Football Projections: Tampa Bay Buccaneers

In addition to viewing our 2018 Fantasy Football Projections by position, we will post our preseason projections per team.

PlayerAtt.Comp.YardsTDINTRushYardsTDFLPoints
Jameis Winston476299.9371320.912.931.9121.21.65.5217.04
Going into his fourth NFL season, Winston will miss (at least) the first three games due to league suspension. The Bucs begin the season with games against the Saints, Eagles and Steelers, who combined for a 37-11 record last season. Due to his suspension, Winston is not draftable in standard-sized (one-QB) leagues.
Ryan Fitzpatrick113.167.97924.92.41670.40.60.556.12
Given Winston's three-game suspension, it's possible (not necessarily likely) that Fitzpatrick plays more than the first three games if the team gets off to a good start. Given the difficult matchups, it's more likely that the Bucs instead start 0-3 to begin the season.

Peyton Barber173.6737.86.115.5105.40.30.5121.72
Tampa's leading rusher in 2017, Barber had 335 rushing yards (15th-most in the NFL) on 78 carries (4.29 YPC) from Weeks 13 to 17. Even though the Bucs used a high second-round pick on Ronald Jones, it's Barber -- not Jones -- that will enter the season as the team's starter. Coach Dirk Koetter recently said: "He's doing everything he should be doing right now, and I think if we went out there and gave it to Peyton 20 times, we'd like what he does. But we're not going to do that in a preseason game.''
Ronald Jones130.1565.93.519.5165.80.90.897.97
While he may lack the size (205 pounds) of being a workhorse back, Jones has elite burst and explosiveness and has drawn comparisons to Jamaal Charles. That's the good news. In terms of fantasy outlook, Jones is a distant second in the team's 1-2 punch with Barber. The second-round rookie averaged just 0.78 yards per carry more than me this preseason as he gained 22 yards on 28 carries.

Mike Evans74.81073.48.20000.2156.14
Even though he posted a career-low 1,001 yards last season, Evans has now begun his career with four consecutive 1,000-yard seasons. Only two other players — Randy Moss and A.J. Green — in the history of the NFL have started their careers with four 1,000-yard seasons. Over his four NFL seasons, Evans has 32 touchdowns and a pair of 12-score campaigns.
DeSean Jackson50.5792.94.50000.1106.09
After reaching the 1,000-yard mark in three of the previous four seasons, Jackson had a disappointing first season (50/668/3) in Tampa as he averaged a career-low 13.4 Y/R. While I have him projected for a year-over-year improvement, Chris Godwin has a chance to overtake Jackson at some point this season.
Chris Godwin45.3670.44.50000.193.84
When opportunities presented themselves, Godwin capitalized and posted a 26/442/1 (17.0 Y/R) second-half line with 68-plus yards in three of his final four games. Making "a lot of plays everyday," Godwin could once again see his role expand as the season progresses, but it may not be until 2019 that we see a breakout from Godwin.

Tight Ends

Cameron Brate47.5560.550000.185.85
Brate and the Bucs agreed to a six-year contract this offseason and the veteran tight end has a combined 105/1,251/14 over the past two seasons. I expect more from second-year tight end O.J. Howard, but I give the edge to Brate to lead the duo in fantasy points.
O.J. Howard42.3579.55.10001.585.55
The Bucs used the 19th-overall pick on Howard, who slipped further than most expected in the 2017 NFL Draft. Even though Brate was more involved in the passing game, Howard played more snaps than Brate as a rookie. Howard's role as a receiver should expand in his sophomore campaign. Both are on the TE1/TE2 border.

2018 Fantasy Football ADP: Biggest Weekly Risers

Every Sunday, we post an update in players that have had the biggest moves — both up and down — in fantasy football average draft position (ADP) from the previous week.

With this information, we can get a better sense of changes in the collective perceptions of fantasy football owners (mock drafters); in essence, it's a version of fantasy football stock up/down for players. If a player is moving up the ADP chart, it may lead us to using a higher pick than his current ADP to make sure we secure a targeted/coveted player.

Of course, a player's ADP (and movement) is just one (small) piece in determining who to draft and our strategy used to assemble a fantasy roster.

For purposes of our comparison, we will use ADP data from 12-team mock drafts from Fantasy Football Calculator:

Biggest Weekly Risers in Fantasy Football ADP

2018 Fantasy Football Projections: Tampa Bay Buccaneers

In addition to viewing our 2018 Fantasy Football Projections by position, we will post our preseason projections per team.

Below you will find our 2018 fantasy football projections for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Quarterbacks

PlayerAtt.Comp.YardsTDINTRushYardsTDFLPoints
Jameis Winston45428635412012.332.5123.51.65.5207.99
Going into his fourth NFL season, Winston will miss (at least) the first three games due to league suspension. The Bucs begin the season with games against the Saints, Eagles and Steelers, who combined for a 37-11 record last season. Due to the suspension, Winston is not draftable in standard-sized (one-QB) leagues, but he could be worth a waiver-wire pickup once the suspension is over.
Ryan Fitzpatrick104.862.97234.52.216.271.30.60.552.25
Given Winston's three-game suspension, it's possible (not necessarily likely) that Fitzpatrick plays more than the first three games if the team gets off to a good start. Given the difficult matchups, it's more likely that the Bucs instead start 0-3 to begin the season. In fact, it's not out of the question that Ryan Griffin won't leapfrog Fitzpatrick to start in Winston's absence.
Ryan Griffin223.314.21750.90.74.112.30.10.210.63
As noted above, there is at least some speculation that Griffin — not Fitzpatrick — could start during Winston's suspension.

Running Backs

Ronald Jones158.3704.44.425212.51.10.8123.09
While he may lack the size (205 pounds) of being a workhorse back, Jones has elite burst and explosiveness and has drawn his share of comparisons to Jamaal Charles. With Doug Martin released and now in Oakland, Jones figures to lead the backfield in touches even if he's sharing the workload with Peyton Barber and Charles Sims.
Peyton Barber119.8491.24.111.880.20.20.581.94
Tampa's leading rusher in 2017, Barber had 335 rushing yards (15th-most in the NFL) on 78 carries (4.29 YPC) from Weeks 13 to 17. As much as most expect Jones to lead the backfield in workload and production, Barber will get plenty of opportunities and wants to "be the lead guy." Perhaps unrealistic, Barber's goal: “I want to get 1,000 yards – and more. That’s my goal this year.”
Charles Sims36.5149.70.437.1330.21.91.159.59

Wide Receivers

PlayerRec.YardsTDRushYardsTDFLPoints
Mike Evans73.91064.28.10000.2154.62
Even though he posted a career-low 1,001 yards last season, Evans has now begun his career with four consecutive 1,000-yard seasons. Only two other players — Randy Moss and A.J. Green — have started their careers with four 1,000-yard seasons. Over his four NFL seasons, Evans has 32 touchdowns and a pair of 12-score campaigns.
DeSean Jackson49.3778.94.20000.1102.89
Jackson had a disappointing first season (50/668/3) in Tampa and averaged a career-low 13.4 Y/R. The speedster should improve upon last year's numbers, but he's likely to fall short of the 1,000-yard mark he hit in three of his previous four seasons.
Chris Godwin39.1578.720000.169.67
If it weren't for Evans and D-Jax ahead of him on the depth chart and a talented TE duo also on the roster, Godwin could be poised for a breakout season. The second-year receiver has had a good offseason and (as Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times tweeted) "makes a lot of plays everyday."
Adam Humphries47.1494.61.40000.357.26
Justin Watson3.151.20.30000.16.72

Tight Ends

PlayerRec.YardsTDRushYardsTDFLPoints
Cameron Brate43.6527.65.20000.183.76
Brate and the Bucs agreed to a six-year contract this offseason and the veteran tight end has a combined 105/1,251/14 over the past two seasons.
O.J. Howard37.3529.75.20001.581.17
The Bucs used the 19th-overall pick on Howard, who slipped further than most expected in the 2017 NFL Draft. Even though Brate was more involved in the passing game, Howard played more snaps than Brate as a rookie.
