New York Giants NFL Mock Draft Roundup, 2.0

Throughout the year and leading up to the 2021 NFL draft, we will update our New York Giants Mock Draft Roundup showing picks for the New York Giants from several prominent sites and draft analysts.

The following are picks in recent mock drafts for the Giants:

Rotoworld - Thor Nystrom (8/21)

7. Patrick Surtain II, CB, Alabama

After focusing on the offensive line in this past draft, the Giants will likely be sitting dead-red on secondary help in next year's process. Surtain has as good of odds as any corner in this class as ending CB1 when the dust clears. He's got the athleticism. He's got the rangy frame. He's got the pedigree. He's got the NFL bloodlines. He has outstanding tape and grading numbers over multiple SEC seasons. A long, rugged press corner who pops you and stays in your hip pocket.

PFF - Mike Renner (8/19)

7. Gregory Rousseau, EDGE, Miami (FL)

Rousseau is still more projection than performance after earning an 80.7 pass-rushing grade last season, but boy is his high-end special. At 6-foot-6, 265 pounds, Rousseau has the frame and athleticism to play any position from standup outside linebacker to 3-technique. Actually, his best reps came on the interior, where he earned an 88.3 pass-rushing grade on 79 such snaps.

The Draft Network - Kyle Crabbs (8/19)

4. Micah Parsons, LB, Penn State

The Giants may have spent big on LB Blake Martinez this offseason, but no one should be considering him a three-down option at LB. In Parsons, the Giants get an every-down threat on the second level who even has some success as a pressure player to make the splash plays this defense is currently missing.

Pro Football Network - Oliver Hodgkinson (8/16)

6. Micah Parsons, LB, Penn State

A desperate need to create any kind of pass rush could shape how the New York Giants 2021 NFL Draft. They lack a true edge rusher but could also use an upgrade at inside linebacker despite adding Blake Martinez in free agency. After drafting Andrew Thomas last year, the Giants may look to address the interior offensive line, which lacks significant depth. Daniel Jones could also use some help at wide receiver.

A perfect blend of size, strength, and sideline-to-sideline speed make Micah Parsons the most dangerous linebacker prospect in the 2021 NFL Draft. Parsons' high school experience playing defensive end shows in his ability to get after the quarterback, and he is also highly skilled in pass coverage. Parsons tackling ability shows on the stats sheet, twice leading Penn State in tackles.

ESPN - Todd McShay (8/12)

6. Micah Parsons, LB, Penn State

Parsons was among the first to opt out of the 2020 season, but he's a future NFL star, and while he still has some developing to do, I don't have to see any more game action to tell me that. He has the frame, range, athleticism and cover skills to make a big impact in the middle of a struggling Giants defense. And when he is given the green light as a blitzer, his instincts and speed allow him to get home on the quarterback, a bonus for a Giants team that was in the bottom third of the league in sacks last season (36). He'd be the first linebacker taken by Big Blue in the first round since Carl Banks was selected No. 3 in 1984.

The Draft Network - Jordan Reid (8/10)

7. Caleb Farley, CB, Virginia Tech

With what seems like an early miss on 2019 first-round pick cornerback DeAndre Baker and with Sam Beal opting out of next season, the team is left very thin on the perimeter of the defense. The team's biggest needs are linebacker, edge rusher, and cornerback. They elect to take the highest-ranked player on the board at a position of need in the former Hokie corner.

Farley is a highly impressive corner whose early returns have been very promising even though he doesn't have much experience at the position (he started playing it in 2018). The prospect that set the standard with being the first to opt out of the season, based on what he's shown on film, he has all of the necessary makeup in order to become a first-round pick.

Pro Football Network - Matthew Valdovinos (8/9)

6. Dylan Moses, LB, Alabama

The Giants spent some money on the linebacker position this offseason, but they still lack overall talent in the group. They missed out on Parsons, who would provide value as a pass rusher as well, but they land Moses, a phenomenal compensation prize. Moses instantly provides the Big Blue defense with speed and coverage ability that they sorely lack.

The Draft Network - Joe Marino (8/3)

7. Gregory Rousseau, EDGE, Miami (FL)

The Giants roster has a ways to go in becoming formidable, and arguably the most glaring hole is edge rusher. Given the way things fell in this scenario, the Giants are in perfect position to land the draft's most exciting pass rusher in Rousseau, who racked up 19.5 tackles for loss and 15.5 sacks as a redshirt freshman at Miami last season.

Defensive coordinator Patrick Graham is going to covet a long-armed pass rusher with heavy hands like Rousseau, making him a terrific fit to work alongside the tanks New York already has on the interior defensive line.
