The following are picks in August 2020 mock drafts for the Cardinals:
EDSFootball - Kevin Hanson (1/15)
16. Jaylen Waddle, WR, Alabama
While he returned for the national championship game, Waddle (ankle) was clearly less than 100%. An underrated route-runner and dynamic playmaker due to his combination of elite speed and elusiveness, Waddle was off to a great start -- at least 120 yards in his four games before breaking his ankle.
San Diego Union Tribune - Eddie Brown (1/13)
16. Kyle Pitts, TE, Florida
There are other needs, but adding a matchup nightmare like Pitts to the
Kyler Murray-
DeAndre Hopkins dynamic duo would generate instant ulcers to most defensive coordinators in the NFL. The Mackey Award winner is definitely more receiver than complete tight end, but he's a valuable chess piece either way -- his 17.9 yards per reception and 12 touchdowns in only eight games are indicative of that.
CBS Sports - Chris Trapasso (1/13)
16. Jaycee Horn, CB, South Carolina
Somewhat of a surprise pick, but with
Patrick Peterson bound to hit the free-agent market, the Cardinals go with an athletic specimen to replace him on the boundary.
The Athletic - Dane Brugler (1/12)
16. Jaycee Horn, CB, South Carolina
There is no question Horn needs to improve his discipline and finishing skills to stay on the field in the NFL. But he is a long, agile athlete with the instincts and competitive mentality that remind some scouts of
Aqib Talib, and he would give the Cardinals an immediate upgrade at the position.
The Draft Network - Joe Marino (1/7)
16. Jaycee Horn, CB, South Carolina
Patrick Peterson is a free agent and the team is still searching for the right guy to start next to him anyway, making cornerback the clear top need for Arizona. Horn was sensational in 2020, showcasing the ability to take away the opposing team's top receiver on a weekly basis in the SEC.
ESPN - Todd McShay (1/7)
16. Travis Etienne, RB, Clemson
Etienne is a home run hitter with fantastic contact balance and improving pass-catching ability. The Cardinals' rushing offense was top 10 in yards per game in 2020, but much of that was from quarterback Kyler Murray, who accounted for more than a third of the team's gains on the ground. Arizona's running backs had the 19th-best yards per carry (4.16), and lead back
Kenyan Drake played the season on a transition tag -- and he isn't under contract for 2021. Etienne would join Murray and DeAndre Hopkins in what would be one of the league's most dangerous offenses.
USA Today - Michael Middlehurst-Schwartz (1/5)
16. Jaylen Waddle, WR, Alabama
An electric receiver whose 22.3 yards per catch in 2020 reflected his knack for both stretching defenses deep and taking short passes the distance, Waddle would be the perfect running mate for DeAndre Hopkins.
Athlon Sports - Bryan Fisher (1/5)
16. Kyle Pitts, TE, Florida
The team doesn't have a difference-maker at tight end right now and will likely have to find a safety-valve replacement for
Larry Fitzgerald over the middle of the field either now or next year. Enter Pitts, who is just the kind of hybrid player who could fit in perfectly as Kyler Murray's new best friend.
