As absurd as it might seem on the surface, yes, the reigning NFL MVP is on the hot seat. He put himself there -- perhaps unwittingly -- with the way he approached this offseason and essentially tried to leverage control over his future. If he wants this to be his last dance with the Packers, then it would help his legacy to go out a winner. Anything short of a Super Bowl might tarnish his legacy, at least among some Packers loyalists. -- Rob Demovsky

Star left tackle David Bakhtiari will miss at least the first six weeks of the season as he continues his recovery from an ACL tear, so it will fall on Elgton Jenkins to protect Aaron Rodgers' blind side for the start of a Super Bowl-or-bust season in Green Bay. Jenkins earned Pro Bowl honors at left guard in 2020; if he thrives in Bakhtiari's place, the third-year pro will set himself up for a huge contract down the line. Last November, Bakhtiari signed an extension that made him the league's highest-paid offensive lineman.

Surprise, surprise. Aaron Rodgers is back. Since he is, they are once again a team that can win it all. This is another team that has to make strides on defense to get to a Super Bowl.

Why they're ranked here: Perhaps this is a bit of a surprise, but eight of our voters had the Packers outside the top five and one person had them at No. 9. Their offense ranked No. 1 in the NFL a year ago and returns all the important contributors, even if the offensive line might be slightly worse. But the big story is that the drama has subsided in Green Bay: 2020 MVP Aaron Rodgers is back as the Packers try to not just reach the NFC Championship, as they've done four of the last seven years, but return to the Super Bowl.
One big question: Rodgers and Davante Adams both posted pictures of "The Last Dance," a nod to the potential that this is their final year in Green Bay. But their success could hinge on the defense. The offense will again be very good. But can new defensive coordinator Joe Barry do enough to complement the Packers' high-powered offense?
