Denver Broncos 2023 Fantasy Football Projections

Our Fantasy Football Projections will be viewable by both position and team.

Below you will find our 2023 fantasy football projections for the Denver Broncos.

QUARTERBACKS

PlayerAtt.Comp.YardsTDINTRushYardsTDPoints
Russell Wilson530.5334.23952.223.3411.94552531.93264.45
Jarrett Stidham33.920.8240.71.531.195.619.60.1716.35

Russell Wilson: Wilson's debut season with the Broncos was a flop. He set career lows in completion percentage (60.5%), TDs/TD% (16, 3.3%) and passer rating (84.4). From Weeks 1 to 13, Wilson had only one top-12 weekly performance (Week 4), but he exceeded 24 fantasy points in three of his final four games in 2022. Transitioning to Sean Payton's offense improves optimism about Wilson's 2023 outlook (just ask Payton himself), but he is better drafted as a fantasy QB2.

RUNNING BACKS

Jaleel McLaughlin48.7209.41.224.637.70.235.53
Michael Burton5.617.40.173.927.30.18.04

Javonte Williams: Handling seven touches including four receptions in Week 2 of the preseason, Williams (knee) described getting tackled as "the biggest hurdle ... left with the whole recovery process." Returning to game action this quickly after tearing multiple ligaments is extremely impressive, to say the least. Through 21 career games, Williams has 250 carries for 1,107 yards (4.4 YPC, 52.7 YPG), 59 receptions for 392 yards and a total of seven touchdowns.

Samaje Perine: Perine is poised for a "significant role" in Denver's backfield throughout the season, and potentially an even more significant role in the early part of the season even though Williams won't miss any regular-season games to start the year. Sean Payton has a long history of giving substantial workloads to the team's second back.

Courtland Sutton: After missing nearly all of 2020, Sutton has appeared in 32 of 34 games over the past two seasons and has averaged 61/803/2 over that time. Like with Jeudy, Sutton should benefit from the offensive coaching upgrade. Given the number of injuries including to Jeudy (hamstring), it's possible that Sutton outscores all of Denver's receivers this season.

Jerry Jeudy: Jeudy set career highs in receptions (67), yards (972) and touchdowns (six) on 100 targets over 15 games in 2022. Jeudy had 53-plus yards in 10 of his final 11 games if we exclude Week 10 (when he played only one offensive snap). During that 11-game stretch, Jeudy posted a 60/842/5 line with a 72.3% catch rate and 10.14 yards per target. Given the offseason coaching change and Jeudy's production last season when healthy, he has the potential for even better numbers in 2023. Speaking of his health, however, Jeudy is dealing with a hamstring injury that could impact his early-season availability.

Marvin Mims: Tim Patrick missed all of 2022 with a torn ACL, and unfortunately he'll now miss all of 2023 with a torn Achilles. Meanwhile, the Broncos waived KJ Hamler with an NFI designation as he tends to a heart condition (pericarditis). Now Jeudy is dealing with a hamstring injury that could potentially sideline him to open the season. The unfortunate rash of injuries to the Broncos' wide receivers opens the door for Mims, the team's second-round pick, to immediately take on a large role within the passing offense.

Javonte Williams: It remains unclear whether Williams (ACL) will be ready to go for the start of the season, but he expects to be cleared for training camp. If he is, how close will he be to his pre-injury form and how quickly will he be able to get back to that form? Through 21 career games, Williams has 250 carries for 1,107 yards (4.4 YPC, 52.7 YPG), 59 receptions for 392 yards and a total of seven touchdowns.

Samaje Perine: The early-season availability of Javonte Williams factors heavily into Perine's role, but either way, Perine is poised for a "significant role" in Denver's backfield throughout the season. Sean Payton has a long history of giving substantial workloads to the team's second back.

Like with Jeudy, Sutton could benefit from the potential for improved offensive potency, but Tim Patrick is back after missing all of 2022 with a torn ACL and the Broncos drafted Marvin Mims in Round 2.

Tim Patrick: Patrick missed all of 2022 after tearing his ACL in training camp. Before 2022, he had solid back-to-back seasons — 51/742/6 (WR41) and 53/734/5 (WR40) in 2020 and 2021, respectively. Russell Wilson was "most comfortable" with Patrick before the injury, and "multiple people in the building" have told NFL Network's James Palmer that Patrick is the "best football player" in the WR room.

Brett Rypien41.425.5287.71.721.046.710.10.0517.62

Russell Wilson: Wilson missed three games in 2021, his first season finishing outside the top 11 fantasy quarterbacks. While the Seahawks never seemed to want to let Russ cook, Nathaniel Hackett has taken an opposite approach. Denver's new head coach has said about the pace of play, "as fast as [Wilson] wants to go, I want to go." Barring injury, Wilson should once again finish as a top-12 fantasy quarterback in 2022.

RUNNING BACKS

Mike Boone21.391.60.534.835.60.320.1
Damarea Crockett0000000

Javonte Williams: Sharing the load evenly with Melvin Gordon, Williams racked up 1,219 yards from scrimmage and scored seven touchdowns on 246 touches as a rookie in 2021. With MG3 re-signing on a one-year deal with the Broncos, it delivers a bit of a blow to Williams' upside (until 2023), but Gordon himself has said that the team wants Williams "to be the guy."

Melvin Gordon: Williams (14.47) edged Gordon (14.44) in touches per game, but Gordon missed one game (Week 13) and Williams had 29 touches for 178 yards and a touchdown in that outing. While the Broncos want Williams "to be the guy" and the workload will favor Denver's second-year back, Gordon should get enough work to put him into flex consideration.

Courtland Sutton: Sutton broke out in his second season (2019) with 72 catches for 1,112 yards and six touchdowns, but then he tore his ACL at the beginning of the 2020 season. Given Wilson's accuracy as a deep passer, Sutton could be positioned to have the best season of his career. The 6-foot-4 receiver has averaged 15.2 yards per reception so far in his career.

Jerry Jeudy: It's an understatement to say that Jeudy's fantasy trajectory is pointing upward following Denver's trade for Russell Wilson. The former first-round pick entered the NFL as a polished route-runner, but he produced two seasons of modest (disappointing) production in part due to the team's poor quarterback play. Entering his age-23 season, Jeudy is poised for a breakout season, barring injury.

Andrew Beck18.90.10001.99

Albert Okwuegbunam: Okwuegbunam finished his second season with 33 catches for 330 yards and two touchdowns. With Noah Fant now in Seattle and Greg Dulcich out for at least the first four games, Albert O. has plenty of upside in what should be a much better offense in 2022 with Russell Wilson under center.

Greg Dulcich: The season-ending injury to Tim Patrick seemed as though it would create more opportunities for Dulcich, but the former Bruin will miss at least the first four games of the season as he starts his NFL career on short-term IR. A former walk-on wide receiver that converted to tight end at UCLA, Dulcich is a threat to make plays down the field as he averaged 18.26 yards per reception over his past two seasons at UCLA combined (68/1,242/10).

Fantasy Football Half-PPR Mock Draft: 12 Teams, 10th Pick

The best way to become good at something is to practice. So, what should you do if you want to draft a better fantasy football team?

Practice, of course!

Leading up to the start of the 2022 NFL season, we will use the 2022 Fantasy Football Mock Draft Simulator (powered by FantasyPros) to complete fantasy football mock drafts.

We will use a variety of scoring formats -- PPR, half-PPR, standard scoring and even 2-QB leagues, league sizes and draft slots. The goal is to give you a good representation of the team that you may be able to construct given your league settings and the rationale of why we made the picks we did.

> Our mocks will be tracked here: Fantasy Football Mock Drafts.

That said, nothing beats practicing yourself so (check out the simulator) and complete a mock in a matter of minutes.

Half-PPR Mock Draft: 12 Teams, 10th Pick

1.10 - Joe Mixon, RB, Cincinnati Bengals

Mixon has eclipsed the 1,100-yard rushing mark in three of four seasons with his six-game 2020 campaign being the exception. While he has averaged 4.1 yards per carry (or less) in each of the past three seasons, the Bengals have upgraded their offensive line this offseason, which should help both Joe Burrow and Mixon. He set a career high in touchdowns (16) in 2021 and while repeating that total could be difficult, the Bengals should once again rank among the league's top-scoring offenses.

2.03 - CeeDee Lamb, WR, Dallas Cowboys

In an uneven season, Lamb's year-over-year numbers improved to 79/1,102/6 in 2021 from his 74/935/5 rookie season. Lamb finished as a top-24 fantasy receiver in six of nine games through Week 10 and was tied with Tampa's Mike Evans for the sixth-most fantasy points (half-PPR scoring) during that stretch. (Michael Gallup missed Weeks 2-9.) Lamb was a top-30 receiver only once over his final seven games, however, and tied with Amari Cooper as fantasy's WR42 over that span. There should be no shortage of targets for Lamb with Cooper traded to Cleveland and Gallup's Week 1 status (ACL) in doubt.

3.10 - Michael Pittman Jr., WR, Indianapolis Colts

Pittman took a big step forward in his second season with a 25.7% target share and finished with 88 catches, 1,082 yards and six touchdowns. Finishing as a top-17 fantasy receiver across all scoring formats, Pittman has a chance to take another step forward in 2022.

4.03 - D.J. Moore, WR, Carolina Panthers

Moore set career highs in both targets (163) and receptions (93) in 2021. While he's been limited to a degree by poor quarterback play, he has exceeded the 1,100-yard mark in three consecutive seasons and I have him projected to finish above that mark in 2022 as well.

5.10 - Jerry Jeudy, WR, Denver Broncos

It's an understatement to say that Jeudy's fantasy trajectory is pointing upward following Denver's trade for Russell Wilson. The former first-round pick entered the NFL as a polished route-runner, but he produced two seasons of modest production in part due to the team's poor quarterback play. Entering his age-23 season, Jeudy is poised for a breakout season, barring injury.

6.03 - Miles Sanders, RB, Philadelphia Eagles

Sanders has missed at least four games in back-to-back seasons, but he's averaged 5.4 yards per carry on the 301 rush attempts he's handled over that span. While I'd typically prefer to get my second running back before this point, Sanders offers plenty of upside in the sixth round.

7.10 - Dallas Goedert, RB, Philadelphia Eagles

Zach Ertz was traded in October, and Goedert had back-to-back 100-yard games in December. If it weren't for the addition of A.J. Brown, who I project to lead the team in receiving, Goedert would be poised for another big leap forward. Even so, he's fairly valued here and gives me a mid-tier TE1 as my starter.

8.03 - Tony Pollard, RB, Dallas Cowboys

Even though Ezekiel Elliott played a full 17-game slate in 2021, Pollard earned an expanded role with career highs in touches (169) and scrimmage yards (1,056). Pollard is one of my favorite backs to target in 2022, as he has enormous upside if Elliott misses any time, but he has stand-alone flex value even if Elliott doesn't.

9.10 - James Cook, RB, Buffalo Bills

While Cook doesn't have his brother's frame and won't be utilized as a featured back, he's a talented receiver that could be moved around the formation. GM Brandon Beane has drawn comparisons of Cook's skill set to that of J.D. McKissic.

10.03 - Darrell Henderson, RB, Los Angeles Rams

With Cam Akers missing most of 2021, Henderson set career highs in touches (178, 14.8/G). Henderson missed five games last season as well and has his own durability concerns, but he would handle double-digit touches per game if Akers were to miss any time again. In fact, Sean McVay recently said that he views Akers and Henderson as a situation where "we’ve got two starting backs."

11.10 - Tom Brady, QB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Brady retired, then unretired, after leading the NFL in pass attempts (719), passing yards (5,316) and touchdowns (43) in his age-44 season. Not only did he throw for a career-high 5,316 yards in the NFL's first 17-game season, but his per-game average (312.7 yards) was the second best of his NFL career. Even though his rushing production is minimal in this era of dual-threat quarterbacks, his prolific passing stats propelled him to fantasy's QB3 in 2021 and he remains a viable QB1 at 45 years old.

12.03 - Jamaal Williams, RB, Detroit Lions

Like D'Andre Swift, Williams missed four games in 2021 but set a career high in rushing yards (601) and tied a career high in rush attempts (153). While his targets per game (2.15) was near a career low, he set a career high in catch rate (92.9%) and finished with 2.0 receptions per game, his career average.

13.10 - Pat Freiermuth, TE, Pittsburgh Steelers

More productive than the typical rookie tight end, Freiermuth finished 2021 with 60 receptions for 497 yards and seven touchdowns on 79 targets. The former Nittany Lion enters his second season as a top-10 option at the position.

14.03 - 49ers DST, San Francisco 49ers

15.10 - Matt Gay, K, Los Angeles Rams

16.03 - Tyrion Davis-Price, RB, San Francisco 49ers

Given that a different player has led the 49ers in rushing in each of Kyle Shanahan's five seasons as head coach, it's never a bad idea to throw a late-round dart at the team's expected RB2.

Javonte Williams: Sharing the load evenly with Melvin Gordon, Williams racked up 1,219 yards from scrimmage and scored seven touchdowns on 246 touches as a rookie in 2021. With MG3 re-signing on a one-year deal with the Broncos, it delivers a blow to Williams' upside (until 2023), but he's still a high-end RB2 entering 2022.

Melvin Gordon: Williams (14.47) edged Gordon (14.44) in touches per game, but Gordon missed one game (Week 13) and Williams had 29 touches for 178 yards and a touchdown in that outing. While the workload will favor Williams, Gordon should get enough work to perform as a flex-level producer.

Jerry Jeudy: It's an understatement to say that Jeudy's fantasy trajectory is pointing upward following Denver's trade for Russell Wilson. The former first-round pick entered the NFL as a polished route-runner, but he produced two seasons of modest production in part due to the team's poor quarterback play. Entering his age-23 season, Jeudy is poised for a breakout season, barring injury.

Courtland Sutton: Sutton broke out in his second season (2019) with 72 catches for 1,112 yards and six touchdowns, but then he tore his ACL at the beginning of the 2020 season. Given Wilson's accuracy as a deep passer, Sutton could turn out to be a significantly undervalued WR3 in fantasy drafts this summer. The 6-foot-4 receiver has averaged 15.2 yards per reception so far in his career.

Albert Okwuegbunam: Okwuegbunam finished his second season with 33 catches for 330 yards and two touchdowns. Nathaniel Hackett said this spring that the team will use Albert O. more as a "move tight end" and that he's "[e]xcited to get the ball in his hands."

Greg Dulcich: A former walk-on wide receiver that converted to tight end at UCLA, Dulcich is a third-round rookie that took more first-team reps than most might have expected earlier this offseason. Regardless of who "starts" between Okwuegbunam and Dulcich, the season-ending injury to Tim Patrick could create many additional opportunities for Dulcich. A threat to make plays down the field, Dulcich averaged 18.26 yards per reception over his past two seasons at UCLA combined (68/1,242/10).

Fantasy Football Projections 2021: Denver Broncos

Our 2021 Fantasy Football Projections will be viewable by both position and team.

Below you will find our 2021 fantasy football projections for the Denver Broncos.

QUARTERBACKS

Teddy Bridgewater520.3345.23850.220.0311.4542.11602.11239.89
Drew Lock70.942.9510.52.872.1310.538.90.5334.71

Teddy Bridgewater: The QB competition between Drew Lock and Bridgewater is over when it comes to determining the Week 1 starter (Bridgewater), but it's possible that both make starts in 2021. While his upside is low, Bridgewater will provide steadier quarterback play for a team that has a strong roster overall and will compete for the playoffs. He finished as fantasy's QB19 with Carolina in 2020.

Drew Lock: Lock will enter 2021 as the backup, but as noted above, could certainly make a start or two in 2021. Lock completed just 57.3% of 2020 pass attempts and tied Carson Wentz for a league-high 15 interceptions thrown.

RUNNING BACKS

Mike Boone35.11581.338.7610.235.43
Nate McCrary729.40.182.115.30.17.2

Javonte Williams: Even though he was the third back off the board in the 2021 NFL Draft, some teams viewed Williams as "best back in the draft." With the Broncos trading up to get in front of the Dolphins to select Williams, it's likely that he emerges as the team's lead back sooner rather than later. The 20-year-old back is a tackle-breaking machine.

Melvin Gordon: Gordon closed last season (Weeks 11-17) with elite volume (120 touches, seventh-most), which allowed MG3 to rank seventh in yards from scrimmage (618) and ninth in half-PPR scoring during that stretch. Regardless of how the workload allocation starts, it's likely that there will be a shift from the veteran to the rookie as the season progresses.

Tim Patrick31.4383.72.200067.27
Diontae Spencer8.989.40.300015.19

Jerry Jeudy: Considering Courtland Sutton (ACL) missing nearly all of 2020, Jeudy underwhelmed as a rookie. A 46.0% catch rate prevented him from capitalizing on a 31.46% share of his team's air yards. Inconsistent quarterback play contributed to the lack of production and all signs point to the potential for a breakout in year two, especially with the Broncos naming Teddy Bridgewater as their starting QB.

Courtland Sutton: Sutton had a breakout season in 2019 -- 72 catches for 1,112 yards and six touchdowns -- but missed nearly all of 2020 with a torn ACL. The choice of Bridgewater over Drew Lock more than likely benefits Jeudy more than Sutton.

K.J. Hamler: Hamler has blazing speed, but he's unlikely to carve out a fantasy-relevant second season with Sutton, Jeudy and Fant (at least) all ahead of him in the targets pecking order.

Tim Patrick: Patrick was productive last season with a career-best 51/742/6 line. While he may once again outproduce expectations, it's also possible that he ranks fourth in WR snaps behind Sutton, Jeudy and Hamler.

Noah Fant: Playing at less than 100% in 2020, Fant averaged only 10.9 Y/R after averaging 14.1 in 2019. Fant's ADOT (7.6 to 6.7) and YAC/R (8.3 to 6.1) both declined year over year, but he also set career highs in receptions (62) and yards (673). Fant has been dealing with a "leg issue" that isn't believed to be serious or keep him out Week 1.

Will the presence of Javonte Williams make Gordon expendable? For fantasy managers that roster MG3, it may be better for a new opportunity than a situation where the Broncos gradually shift a larger share of the workload to Williams as the season progresses, a potentially frustrating development for MG3 fantasy managers.

Drew Lock: The Aaron Rodgers (to Denver) speculation was at a fever pitch earlier this offseason and perhaps the Broncos will make a move to trade for Deshaun Watson. For now, however, it's a battle between Lock and newcomer Teddy Bridgewater and there appears to be "no separation" between the duo so far. If Lock opens the season as the starter, it's no (ahem) lock that he keeps the job. Not only did Lock complete just 57.3% of his pass attempts, but he tied Carson Wentz for a league-high 15 interceptions thrown in 2020.

Teddy Bridgewater: As noted above, the QB competition between Lock and Bridgewater is tight and both will most likely make starts in 2021. Even if Bridgewater wins the starting gig to enter the season, he is a low-upside option.

With the Broncos moving up to get in front of the Dolphins to select Williams, it's likely that he emerges as the team's lead back sooner rather than later. Courtland Sutton: Sutton had a breakout season in 2019 -- 72 catches for 1,112 yards and six touchdowns -- but missed nearly all of 2020 with a torn ACL. While Sutton is our top-ranked Broncos fantasy wide receiver, it's more of a 1(a)/1(b) situation with Jerry Jeudy and both are viable WR3 types heading into 2021. A low level of quarterback play could hold both back, however.

Jerry Jeudy: Jeudy had his moments, but it was generally an underwhelming rookie season given the Week 1 season-ending injury to Courtland Sutton. Per NextGen Stats, Jeudy's 31.46% share of his team's air yards ranked 14th in 2020. That said, he had a 46.0% catch rate on the year.

K.J. Hamler: Hamler has blazing speed, but he's unlikely to carve out a fantasy-relevant second season with Sutton, Jeudy and Fant (at least) all ahead of him in the targets pecking order.
