Cincinnati Bengals 2024 Fantasy Football Projections

Joe Burrow: Burrow battled a calf strain during the early part of the season, and his performance suffered as a result (182 YPG with only two total touchdowns through four games). While he got into a groove after that point (4-1 record, 296 passing YPG, 12-to-four TD-INT ratio in his next five games), Burrow was lost for the season to a hand/wrist injury sustained in Week 11. Burrow says he'll "be ready to go by the season" even though he won't put a percentage on where he is health wise. The Bengals arguably have the league's best receiver tandem with Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins.

Zack Moss: Moss is one of free agency's biggest winners this offseason with Joe Mixon now in Houston. While he'll share the workload with Chase Brown, Moss has shown an ability to handle a heavy workload and he should get the larger share of touches in Cincinnati's committee backfield. Given the high-powered nature of their offense (when everyone is healthy), Moss is a high-upside flex option heading into 2024.

Ja'Marr Chase: Although he's the WR3 in my rankings, a case could be made for Chase to be drafted as the WR1 this summer. Injuries have slowed him and/or Joe Burrow over the past two seasons, but the 24-year-old receiver already has 268/3,717/29 through 45 career games.

Tee Higgins: With both Higgins and Joe Burrow missing considerable time and dealing with injuries, 2023 was a year to forget. Before that, however, Higgins had back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons (and top-24 finishes) as the team's 1B to Ja'Marr Chase's 1A. Going into his age-25 season, it appears unlikely that Higgins will sign a long-term extension, but it's good news that he has signed his franchise tender.

Mike Gesicki: Gesicki has underwhelmed the past couple of seasons — 32/362/5 and 29/244/2, respectively. While fantasy managers shouldn't expect a 112-target (and 73/780/2) season like in 2021, there is potential that Gesicki outperforms current expectations and ADP as the third option in Cincinnati's passing game. Outside of deep leagues, however, the athletic tight end shouldn't be drafted.

Consensus 2024 NFL Free Agency Rankings

We are a few weeks away from the start of NFL free agency. Teams can officially sign free agents starting on Wednesday, March 13th at 4 PM ET, when the next league year begins, but they can begin negotiating with agents during the legal tampering window that begins on Monday, March 11th.

Using free-agent rankings from a variety of sources, we have ranked the available free-agent pool using their consensus ranking score.

Here are some notes on how to interpret the table below:

Five sources were used and the "total" column is the sum of those rankings.
The lower the score, the better. For example, Chris Jones was the consensus top-ranked free agent and his score was 5 (five rankings of 1).
Free agents unranked by an individual source get their next ("+1") ranking.

Example: CBS Sports ranked 50 free agents and every free agent not included in their rankings (e.g., Jadeveon Clowney) received a score of 51.

Players that get designated with the franchise tag (deadline: March 5th) will be excluded. Only unrestricted free agents are included; restricted free agents are excluded.

Joe Burrow: Does any team have as talented of a trio as the Bengals do with Ja'Marr Chase, Tee Higgins and Tyler Boyd? Burrow's rookie season (2020) ended prematurely after sustaining a torn ACL, but he has a 69.3% completion rate, 69 touchdowns (6.1 TD%) and 8.1 yards per attempt average over the past two years. Returning to practice after missing roughly a month, Burrow (calf strain) is on track to play Week 1 against the Cleveland Browns.

Ja'Marr Chase: Chase missed five games in 2022, but in some ways, his numbers were even better in his second season. Chase averaged a 7.3/87.2/0.75 line and fell short of 50 receiving yards in only one of 12 games last season. As a rookie, he averaged 4.8/85.6/0.77 per game, but he failed to reach 50 receiving yards in six games in his debut season. Assuming that Chase stays healthy, bigger and better things should be expected in his age-23 season.

Tee Higgins: Other than perhaps the Dolphins with Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle or the Eagles with A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, no team has a better WR duo than the Bengals have with Chase and Higgins. As he enters his age-24 season, the former Clemson Tiger already has three years of consistent production with a total of 215 catches for 3,028 yards and 19 touchdowns. Higgins has a minimum of three catches in 38 of the 41 games in which he played at least 50% of the offensive snaps.

Tyler Boyd: Boyd set five-year lows in targets (82), receptions (58) and yards (762) in 2022. Even so, he has extended his streak of top-36 seasons (half-PPR scoring) to five. He's a relatively low-upside flex option, other than weeks where either Chase or Higgins is sidelined.

Irv Smith Jr.: Smith has appeared in only eight (23.5%) of 34 games over the past two seasons. With Hayden Hurst now in Carolina, Smith slots in atop Cincinnati's depth chart. Hurst had 52/414/2 receiving in 13 games last season, and Jets tight end C.J. Uzomah had 49/493/5 for Cincinnati in 2021. Provided his health cooperates, Smith has a chance to at least post similar numbers to Hurst and Ozumah over the past two seasons.

Joe Burrow: Does any team have as talented of a trio as the Bengals do with Ja'Marr Chase, Tee Higgins and Tyler Boyd? It's unlikely for the Bengals to play Burrow in the preseason as he recovers from a strained calf, but NFL Network's Mike Garafolo notes that "it doesn't sound as if Week 1 is in jeopardy right now."

Joe Mixon: Missing multiple games in all but two seasons (2019 and 2021), Mixon has been an inefficient (career 4.1 YPC) workhorse (16.4 carries per game). In addition, he set career highs as a receiver in targets (75), receptions (60) and yards (441) in 2022. The Bengals and Mixon agreed to a restructured contract that keeps him in Cincinnati for 2023, but it's still unclear if his legal issues will impact his availability at any point during the season.

2023 Fantasy Football Half-PPR Mock Draft: 12 Teams, 9th Pick

The best way to become good at something is to practice. So, what should you do if you want to draft a better fantasy football team?

Practice, of course!

Leading up to the start of the 2023 NFL season, we will use the Fantasy Football Mock Draft Simulator to complete fantasy football mock drafts.

We will use a variety of scoring formats — point per reception (PPR), half-PPR, standard scoring and even 2-QB leagues — and league sizes. The goal is to provide you with a good representation of the team that you may be able to construct given your league settings and the rationale of why we made the picks we did.

That said, nothing beats practicing yourself so (check out the simulator) and complete a mock in a matter of minutes.

Half-PPR Mock Draft: 12 Teams, 9th Pick

1.09 - Cooper Kupp, WR, Los Angeles Rams

Kupp pulled off the rare triple crown of receiving in 2021, finishing with 145 catches for 1,947 yards and 16 touchdowns. While he missed roughly half of his follow-up season, the 2021 NFL Offensive Player of the Year led ALL receivers in half-PPR fantasy points scored in 2022 on a per-game basis.

2.04 - Derrick Henry, RB, Tennessee Titans

Henry has led the NFL in rush attempts in three of the past four seasons (including 349 in 2022) and he's guaranteed a massive workload, as long as he remains healthy. While he set a career high in receptions (33) in 2022, he actually averaged more receptions per game in 2021 (2.3) than 2022 (2.1). Being more involved as a receiver would obviously be better, but here is where Henry has finished on a points-per-game basis in half-PPR scoring over the past four years (min. 8G played): third in 2022 (17.9), first in 2021 (23.0), third in 2020 (20.2) and second (tied) in 2019 (19.0), respectively.

3.09 - Tee Higgins, WR, Cincinnati Bengals

Other than perhaps the Dolphins with Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, no team has a better WR duo than the Bengals have with Ja'Marr Chase and Higgins. As he enters his age-24 season, the former Clemson Tiger already has three seasons of consistent production with a total of 215 catches for 3,028 yards and 19 touchdowns. Higgins has a minimum of three catches in 38 of the 41 games in which he played at least 50% of the offensive snaps.

4.04 - Deebo Samuel, WR, San Francisco 49ers

There are two main risks with Samuel — durability concerns due to his physical play style and the number of mouths to feed in San Francisco's talented offense. A motivated Samuel should be better on a per-touch basis in 2023 than he was last year.

5.09 - Cam Akers, RB, Los Angeles Rams

Much of Akers' 2022 production came in the final six weeks of the season when he finished with 104 carries for 512 yards (4.92 YPC) and six touchdowns and 11 receptions for 99 yards on 12 targets. If he maintains a workhorse role throughout the whole season, there is plenty of upside with him here in the fifth round.

6.04 - Rachaad White, RB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

White sits atop the team's depth chart and should dominate touches in 2023. As a 2022 rookie, he had 129 carries for 481 yards (only 3.7 YPC) and a touchdown in addition to 50 receptions for 290 yards and two touchdowns. The biggest concern for White (and all of Tampa's skill-position players) remains how much the offense struggles in a post-Tom Brady world.

7.09 - Darren Waller, TE, New York Giants

A couple of seasons removed from back-to-back 1,100-yard campaigns, Waller is clearly the top weapon in New York's passing attack. While he has been limited to only 20 games over the past two seasons, his 17-game pace is 71/895/4 during that stretch.

8.04 - Trevor Lawrence, QB, Jacksonville Jaguars

What a difference a year (and a new coaching staff) made for Lawrence! The 2021 NFL Draft's top overall pick completed 66.3% of his pass attempts for 7.0 yards per attempt, while throwing 25 touchdowns and only seven interceptions in 2022. (That compares to 59.6%, 6.0 Y/A and 12:17 TD-INT ratio in 2021.) In fact, Lawrence improved considerably as the season progressed — 69.7% completion rate, 7.4 Y/A and a 15-to-two TD-INT ratio from Weeks 9-18. Bigger things could/should be in store for Lawrence in 2023, as Calvin Ridley joins Christian Kirk, coming off career numbers (84/1108/8 in 2022), Evan Engram, and Travis Etienne.

9.09 - Rashaad Penny, RB, Philadelphia Eagles

Through five NFL seasons, Penny has missed nearly as many games (40) as he has played (42). When healthy, however, he has averaged 5.7 yards per carry over his career and an even-better 6.2 YPC over the past two seasons (176/1095/8). As long as he's healthy, however, Penny would be a great fit for the Miles Sanders role within the backfield.

10.04 - Elijah Moore, WR, Cleveland Browns

Before an injury ended his rookie season prematurely, Moore had 34 catches for 459 yards and five touchdowns over his final six games in 2021. (Moore was so good during that span that only Justin Jefferson had more fantasy points over that stretch.) When he was on the field in 2022, things didn't go as well, but he'll get an opportunity to reset with the Browns in 2023.

11.09 - Tyler Allgeier, RB, Atlanta Falcons

Allgeier was a player I liked as a sleeper last year, and the fifth-rounder out of BYU eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark as a rookie. With the Falcons drafting Robinson at No. 8 overall, it obviously delivers a huge blow to Allgeier's fantasy stock, but he is worth a stash as my RB5 on this roster.

12.04 - Michael Gallup, WR, Dallas Cowboys

Gallup missed only the first three games of 2022, but his production was abysmal (39/424/4 in the regular season). Including two playoff games, he had less than 50 receiving yards in 15 of 16 games. Getting back to an 1,100-yard season (2019) is highly unlikely, but he should be better in 2023 now that he's another year removed from his torn ACL.

13.09 - Anthony Richardson, QB, Indianapolis Colts

Indianapolis was arguably the most ideal landing spot for Richardson. After all, new coach Shane Steichen tailored Philadelphia's offense to best suit the skill set of Jalen Hurts. Ups and downs should be expected for Richardson, but his elite athletic profile gives him enormous rushing upside from the point he becomes the starter (presumably Week 1).

14.04 - Buffalo Bills DST

15.09 - Tyler Higbee, TE, Los Angeles Rams

Unintentionally adding my third Ram here, Higbee set career highs in targets (108, fourth-most among TEs) and receptions (72, fifth) in 2022. While Kupp missed nearly half of the season, Higbee's per-game numbers were actually better with Kupp (4.9/43 on 7.2 targets) than without Kupp (3.5/29 on 5.4 targets). At a position where volume is inconsistent outside of the elite options, there is value in the consistency of Higbee's volume, especially given Waller's recent injury history.

Hurst had 52/414/2 receiving in 13 games last season, and C.J. Uzomah had 49/493/5 for Cincinnati in 2021. If he can stay healthy, Smith will have a chance to outperform his current ADP.

2023 Fantasy Football Mock Draft: 12 Teams, Half-PPR, 3rd Pick

The best way to become good at something is to practice. So, what should you do if you want to draft a better fantasy football team?

Practice, of course!

Leading up to the start of the 2023 NFL season, we will use the Fantasy Football Mock Draft Simulator to complete fantasy football mock drafts.

That said, nothing beats practicing yourself so (check out the simulator) and complete a mock in a matter of minutes.

Half-PPR Mock Draft: 12 Teams, 3rd Pick

1.03 - Austin Ekeler, RB, Los Angeles Chargers

Ekeler's elite production is game-script independent as one of the league's best receiving backs and he has led the NFL in touchdowns in each of the past two seasons with a total of 38 during that span. Ekeler led all running backs in half-PPR fantasy points in 2022, and he finished second behind Jonathan Taylor in 2021.

2.10 - Jaylen Waddle, WR, Miami Dolphins

With Tyreek Hill setting career highs in targets, receptions and yards, it's not a surprise that Waddle's targets dropped to 117 (in 2022) from 140 (2021). That said, he was utilized further downfield as his ADOT jumped to 12.7 (from 7.0), per PFF, and he led the NFL in yards per reception (18.1). He finished as fantasy's WR7 overall.

3.03 - Tee Higgins, WR, Cincinnati Bengals

Other than perhaps the Dolphins with Hill and Waddle, no team has a better WR duo than the Bengals have with Ja'Marr Chase and Higgins. Entering his age-24 season, Higgins already has three years of consistent production with a total of 215 catches for 3,028 yards and 19 touchdowns. He has a minimum of three catches in 38 of the 41 games in which he played at least 50% of the offensive snaps.

4.10 - Aaron Jones, RB, Green Bay Packers

Before last season, Jones had three consecutive seasons with double-digit touchdowns. That said, he set career highs in rushing yards (1,121) and receptions (59) in 2022. Transitioning from Aaron Rodgers to Jordan Love adds some uncertainty, but Jones has 47-plus receptions in four consecutive seasons and 1,459-plus YFS in three of his past four seasons.

5.03 - George Kittle, TE, San Francisco 49ers

Based on his talent alone, Kittle should be targeted more than he will be. Even so, he has finished as a top-four fantasy tight end in four of the past five seasons. The exception was when he missed eight games in 2020, but he finished third on a PPG basis that season behind Travis Kelce and Darren Waller. The other concern with Kittle is he has missed multiple games in four consecutive seasons, but he has averaged 70.4/947.8/5.8 per 17 games over the past five years.

6.10 - Mike Evans, WR, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The obvious concern for Evans (and the passing offense) is replacing the retired Tom Brady with Baker Mayfield. Perhaps his streak of 1,000-yard seasons ends at nine, but I'm comfortable with him as my WR3 even if his week-to-week volatility increases.

7.03 - Justin Herbert, QB, Los Angeles Chargers

Herbert set career lows in passing in part due to Keenan Allen (seven games missed) and Mike Williams (four) missing significant time. Through three seasons, however, Herbert has averaged a 17-game pace of 4,696 yards, 31.3 touchdowns and 11.7 interceptions with another 237 rushing yards and three touchdowns. TCU rookie Quentin Johnston adds a vertical weapon to this offense, and more shots down the field will boost Herbert's upside. Through three seasons, he has finished as fantasy's QB9, QB2 and QB11, respectively.

8.10 - James Cook, RB, Buffalo Bills

Cook is one of Buffalo's biggest fantasy winners of the draft, as there was some projection that the Bills could target someone like Bijan Robinson if he slipped. (Of course, he didn't.) Topping the depth chart going into the 2023 season, there is a decent chance that Cook exceeds expectations.

9.03 - A.J. Dillon, RB, Green Bay Packers

Even if I didn't already roster Jones (in this mock), Dillon would have stand-alone fantasy value. He has finished as a top-30 fantasy running back in back-to-back seasons. During that span, Dillon has 435 touches including 62 receptions on 80 targets for 2,092 yards from scrimmage and 14 total touchdowns.

10.10 - Elijah Mitchell, RB, San Francisco 49ers

Mitchell would be a fine bye-week replacement for this team, but his real value would come if Christian McCaffrey were to miss any time. While CMC deserves to be drafted as pick 1.01 in fantasy drafts, we've seen how productive non-CMC backs (including Mitchell) have been when given the opportunity.

11.03 - D'Onta Foreman, RB, Chicago Bears

Foreman had only 37 rushing yards through the first six weeks of the season, but following the CMC trade, he became one of the few bright spots for Carolina with 191/877/5 rushing over the final 11 games of the season and performed as a top-24 back (all scoring formats) during that stretch. At a minimum, he's worth a bench stash in the 11th round.

12.10 - Romeo Doubs, WR, Green Bay Packers

13.03 - Hunter Renfrow, WR, Las Vegas Raiders

The duo of Doubs and Renfrow provide some depth as this team's WR4/5, respectively.

14.10 - Anthony Richardson, QB, Indianapolis Colts

Shane Steichen will cater Indy's offense to Anthony Richardson's skill set, similarly to how he put Jalen Hurts in position to thrive in Philadelphia. Ups and downs as a passer should be expected, but his elite rushing upside immediately puts him into the QB1 (top-12) mix. Justin Fields, as an example, finished 2022 as fantasy's QB6 (fifth on a PPG basis) despite ranking only 26th in the NFL in passing yards (2,242).

Joe Burrow: Burrow started strong (eight consecutive multi-TD games) and closed even stronger (971 yards and eight TDs in final two regular-season games combined) in his NFL Comeback of the Year-winning 2021 season. Burrow quickly reestablished the chemistry he had built with Ja'Marr Chase when the duo played for the LSU Tigers. Chase along with Tee Higgins, Tyler Boyd and Joe Mixon give Burrow one of the league's most talented group of weapons.

Joe Mixon: Mixon has eclipsed the 1,100-yard rushing mark in three of four seasons with his six-game 2020 campaign being the exception. While he has averaged 4.1 yards per carry (or less) in each of the past three seasons, the Bengals have upgraded their offensive line this offseason, which should help both Joe Burrow and Mixon. He set a career high in touchdowns (16) in 2021 and the Bengals should once again rank among the league's top-scoring offenses.

Ja'Marr Chase: Chase went off for 5/101/1 in Week 1 and never looked back. In fact, 2021's NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year had a pair of 200-yard games in 2021. Going into his age-22 season, Chase has a legitimate chance to finish as this year's overall WR1.

Tee Higgins: Higgins set career highs in receptions (74) and yards (1,091) despite missing three games in his age-22 season. No team has a more talented wide receiver duo than the Bengals, and Higgins is a top-12 fantasy option in his own right.

Tyler Boyd: Boyd posted a 67/828/5 line on 94 targets to finish as a top-33 fantasy receiver in 2021, but he also set four-year lows in targets, receptions and yards. Boyd enters 2022 as a solid (but relatively low-upside) WR4.

Hayden Hurst: With C.J. Uzomah signing a free-agent deal with the Jets, Hurst landed in a favorable spot for his fantasy outlook. While he's only the fifth offensive option behind the team's top three receivers and Joe Mixon, a 50/500/5 season (similar to Uzomah's 49/493/5 line last season) is within striking distance for the former first-round tight end.
