Philadelphia Eagles 2023 Fantasy Football Projections

Jalen Hurts: Hurts set career bests in passing — 66.5% completion, 8.0 Y/A, 4.8 TD%, 1.2 INT%, and 101.5 passer rating — in 2022. Despite his improvement as a passer, aided by the trade for A.J. Brown last offseason, it's especially the rushing production that makes him an elite fantasy quarterback. Over the past two seasons (30 games), the former Oklahoma (and Alabama) quarterback has rushed 304 times for 1,544 yards and 23 touchdowns. That's an equivalent to 9.75 fantasy points per game (from his rushing stats alone).

D'Andre Swift: There's a good chance that Swift leads Philadelphia's backfield in fantasy production, as long as he stays healthy, but he has missed a minimum of three games every season in his young career. Swift is one of the league's best receiving backs with an average of 3.9 receptions per game in his career. While he'll benefit from playing in a high-powered offense and behind an elite offense line, a drop in target share is likely with Jalen Hurts (165 carries in 2022) under center. Only Chicago's running backs had fewer receptions than Philadelphia's last season.

Rashaad Penny: Through five NFL seasons, Penny has missed nearly as many games (40) as he has played (42). When healthy, however, he has averaged 5.7 yards per carry over his career and an even-better 6.2 YPC over the past two seasons (176/1095/8). Aside from durability concerns, Penny hasn't been a factor in the passing game — 36 career targets in 42 games.

Kenneth Gainwell: The Eagles will employ a committee approach to their backfield, and it's even possible that Gainwell will lead the backfield in fantasy production without factoring in health. Given the durability history of Swift and Penny, however, there is the potential that Gainwell gets even more work than anticipated.

A.J. Brown: Brown shattered previous career highs in targets (145), receptions (88) and yards (1,496) last season and tied his career high in touchdowns (11) in his first season in Philadelphia. Even if he doesn't repeat as a top-five fantasy wide receiver, he's the 1A in this offense to Devonta Smith's 1B, and should be drafted as a top-10 receiver in 2023.

DeVonta Smith: Smith followed up a strong 2021 rookie season (64/916/5) with an even better sophomore campaign (95/1,196/7) despite the addition of A.J. Brown to the receiving corps. Brown was fantasy's WR5 (half-PPR scoring) in 2022, but Smith was also a top-10 performer last season.

Dallas Goedert: Goedert missed five games last season, but he still finished with 55 catches for 702 yards and three touchdowns. His 58.5 YPG average was a career high and he had 60-plus yards in eight of 12 games. In addition, he had a minimum of three catches in all but one game last season.

Philadelphia Eagles Fantasy Football Projections 2020

The Eagles have a dynamic one-two punch at tight end with Zach Ertz and Dallas Goedert, but their receiving corps was decimated by injuries last season. Wentz became the league's first 4,000-yard passer without a 500-yard (wide) receiver. The front office turbo-charged the receiving corps with the addition of speed and lots of it this offseason.

Doug Pederson may favor a committee approach at running back, but Sanders -- 4.6 YPC and 10.2 Y/R as a rookie -- clearly has lead-back talent. After handling just 10.6 touches per game over the first half of the season, Sanders was fed 18 touches per game in the final eight with Jordan Howard missing most of the second half of the season. Although Sanders suffering a week-to-week lower-body injury, a source told ESPN's Tim McManus that Sanders will be "ready to play" Week 1.

Effective down the stretch, Scott racked up 350 scrimmage yards and four touchdowns and hauled in 23-of-25 targets over the final four games of the season. While Miles Sanders is "the guy," Scott should get 8-10 touches per week with many of those touches being high-value receptions.

Injuries decimated Philadelphia's receiving corps last season and the front office invested heavily into adding reinforcements with Reagor being the headliner of the incoming crop of pass-catchers. An explosive athlete that runs faster than his tested time (4.47) in Indy, Reagor can provide a DeSean Jackson-like impact to the receiving corps. In fact, it wouldn't be surprising if he outproduced the veteran receiver.

Jackson opened the 2019 season and his return to Philly with a bang (8/154/2 in Week 1), but he got hurt in Week 2 and managed just one five-yard reception the rest of the year. The team has loaded up on fast receivers that will likely lead to even more week-to-week volatility in Jackson's output.

Currently on the active/PUP list, the expectation is that Jeffery will begin the season on the PUP list and be required to miss at least the first six games of the season. The veteran receiver has missed at least three games in four of the past five seasons so durability is always a concern. While he had a big game (9/137/1 vs. MIA) at the end of the season, Jeffery averaged a career-low 11.4 yards per reception over 10 games in 2019.

While he was even better over the past two seasons (204/2,079/14 combined line), the team loaded up on speedy pass-catchers this offseason and Carson Wentz may not need to rely on Ertz as heavily in 2020.

Goedert nearly doubled his production in year two as he finished with 58 catches for 607 yards and five touchdowns on 87 targets. Counting the playoff loss to Seattle, Goedert closed the season with 55-plus yards in five of his final six games. Philadelphia Eagles 2019 Fantasy Football Projections

The obvious concern with Wentz is durability as the fourth-year quarterback has now missed at least three games in back-to-back seasons. If he can stay healthy, however, he has a ton of upside compared to his current ADP. Wentz showed how good he could be in 2017 when he was the QB2 through Week 14 before missing the final three weeks of the season. The addition of DeSean Jackson gives Wentz the best and most complete group of weapons that he has had in his young career.

Jeffery's catch rate was up significantly in 2018 (70.7%) compared to his first season (47.5%, 2017) in Philadelphia and that led to per-game improvements in receptions and yards (5.0/64.8 vs. 3.6/49.3). Missing three games in 2018, Jeffery has now missed at least three games in three of four seasons and has failed to reach the 900-yard mark since 2014.

In spite of missing four games, Jackson finished 32nd in fantasy points (42nd in PPR) in 2018. Now back in Philadelphia, D-Jax gives the Eagles the deep threat they have lacked. A big play waiting to happen, Jackson has led the NFL in Y/A in 2018 (18.9), 2016 (17.9) and 2014 (20.9).

There has been some offseason speculation about Agholor's status with the Eagles. Aside from his touchdowns cut in half year over year (from eight to four), Agholor's 2018 numbers (64/736 on 97 targets) were nearly identical to his 2017 production (62/768 on 95 targets). Barring injuries to others, it's highly unlikely that Agholor duplicates that level of production in 2019.

One of Philadelphia's second-round picks, Arcega-Whiteside should start the season as the team's fourth receiver. A physical receiver with the ability to make tough catches, JJAW could be productive in the red zone during his rookie season.

At the most top-heavy fantasy position, Ertz is a consensus top-three option.

Goedert had 33/334/4 as a rookie and Philadelphia's tight ends coach has described his development as "phenomenal." The presence of Ertz contains his breakout potential to a degree, but he has top-five upside if Ertz were to miss any time.

2018 Fantasy Football TE Waiver-Wire Options Heading Into Week 4

Every week, we examine players that may be available on your league's waiver wire that could help your team in the short and/or long term.

For a player to be listed, he must be owned in 50 percent (or less) of Yahoo! leagues. The goal is to provide recommendations of players that have a greater chance of being available on your league's waiver wire. Of course, your league's size and settings could significantly impact whether these players (or better options) are available in your particular league(s).

With that said, here are some tight end waiver-wire options that I like heading into Week 4 (Yahoo! ownership in parenthesis):

1. Tyler Eifert, Cincinnati Bengals (51 percent)

Yet to score a touchdown this season, Eifert has the potential in any given week to score a touchdown or two. At the same time, durability has always been the concern as he played just 24 games over the previous four seasons combined. Healthy now, Eifert had his best game (6/74 on eight targets) in Week 3.

While A.J. Green left Sunday's game early and appears likely to play in Week 4, his absence would help Eifert's short-term cause. In a year where tight end is weaker than usual and made worse by some serious injuries to Delanie Walker and Greg Olsen, Eifert has the potential to be a helpful fantasy asset that should be owned in more than 50 percent of Yahoo! leagues.

[Eifert was at 50 percent Monday morning so I'm violating my own self-imposed rule by including him here now that his ownership level has crept up by one percent.]

2. Ben Watson, New Orleans Saints (44 percent)

In Sunday's overtime win against the Falcons, Watson had five catches for 71 yards on six targets, all of which were season highs. In an offense bound to score lots of points in any given week, Watson naturally has some built-in weekly upside. Historically, the Giants, Watson's Week 4 opponent, have been a fantasy-friendly defense to opposing tight ends even if they have limited their TE-deficient opponents early this season.

3. Vance McDonald, Pittsburgh Steelers (11 percent)

With 10/112 on a team-high 16 targets in their playoff loss to the Jaguars last year, there was some early offseason buzz that McDonald's momentum would carry over into the 2018 season although he missed the season opener. Returning in Week 2, McDonald had three catches for 26 yards on five targets. At the time of this post (halftime of MNF), McDonald already has a productive Week 3 with a 75-yard touchdown. Going forward, I'd expect McDonald to outscore teammate Jesse James assuming both tight ends are healthy.

4. Dallas Goedert, Philadelphia Eagles (two percent)

Goedert goes into MNF with the most fantasy points at tight end so far this week as the rookie tight end had seven catches for 73 yards and a touchdown against the Colts on Sunday. Before Sunday's game, however, he had just one catch for four yards in his two previous games. Rookie tight ends struggle to make a consistent impact and that may continue to be the case when the offense is back to full health.

5. Jake Butt, Denver Broncos (five percent)

Butt had just two catches for eight yards on three targets against the Ravens in Week 3. Through three games, he has eight catches for 85 yards on 13 targets. Those numbers aren't necessarily anything to write home about, but Butt has perhaps the best possible matchup of the week against the Chiefs in Week 4, especially if Eric Berry misses another game. Going into MNF, no team has allowed more fantasy points to opposing tight ends than the Chiefs.

2018 Fantasy Football Projections: Philadelphia Eagles

Missing the final three (regular-season) games, Wentz avoided the active/PUP list, but it's possible that he misses "a week or two" to open the season. Before last year's injury, Wentz threw 33 touchdowns to only seven interceptions in 13 games and trailed only Russell Wilson in fantasy points scored (through Week 14).

Despite losing Wentz, the Eagles did not miss a beat when Foles stepped in to lead the team. If Wentz misses a game or two to open the season, Foles is worth a look as a quarterback to stream.

Ajayi saw a postseason workload bump with 42 carries and six receptions over three playoff games and he's poised for a (much) larger workload heading into 2018 with LeGarrette Blount now in Detroit.

There have been some reports suggesting that Sproles could be more involved than expected. While he typically goes undrafted in standard-sized, standard-scoring leagues, he's worth a late-round pick in PPR and deeper formats.

Exceeding the 75-yard mark only twice during the regular season, Jeffery had a disappointing 47.5-percent catch rate in his first season with the Eagles. While his yardage total (789) was the lowest since his 2012 rookie campaign, his nine scores were only one shy of his career high set in 2014. Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, Jeffery (shoulder) is expected to miss the first two games of the season with the hope of being ready for Week 3.

In a breakout campaign, Agholor's 2017 numbers (62/768/8) exceeded his production from the previous two season's combined. Along with Travis Kelce, Ertz is one of just two tight ends to have a minimum of 70 catches and 800 yards over each of the past three seasons. Only nine tight ends have one such 70/800 season over the past three years and only four have multiple. In a weak positional group, Rob Gronkowski, Kelce and Ertz are in a tier by themselves atop the position.

With Trey Burton signing a free-agent deal with the Bears, Goedert has an opportunity to make an immediate impact even though rookie tight ends tend to struggle acclimating to the league. 2018 Fantasy Football Projections: Philadelphia Eagles

With good health in 2018, Wentz could perform as a top-five fantasy quarterback.
