Aaron Jones: A career-low four rushing touchdowns combined with a career-high six receiving touchdowns last season extended Jones' streak of double-digit touchdowns to three seasons. That said, Jones set three-year lows in touches (223), scrimmage yards (1,190) and touchdowns (10) in 2021. Even so, Jones still finished as a top-12 fantasy running back last season after a pair of top-five seasons the two years before.

A.J. Dillon: With Jamaal Williams off to Detroit, Dillon finished as fantasy's RB23 in half-PPR scoring formats in 2021. While he played two more games than Jones, his touches (221) and scrimmage yards (1,116) were nearly identical to Jones (223, 1,190) last season. Matt LaFleur recently referred to Jones and Dillon as "1A and 1A."

Allen Lazard: Lazard set career highs in receptions (40), yards (513) and touchdowns (eight) in 2021. While he has missed eight games over the past two seasons, he'll easily set new career highs in catches and yards as long as his health cooperates in 2022.

Christian Watson: The son of a former NFL safety, Watson makes the jump from the FCS to catching passes from Aaron Rodgers. Watson's combination of size (6' 4", 208 pounds) and speed (4.36 40-yard dash) is intriguing and he has the potential to emerge as a more useful fantasy option as the season progresses.

Romeo Doubs: A fourth-round pick out of Nevada, Doubs has impressed early in training camp, as ESPN's Rob Demovsky writes the rookie "looks NFL-ready" and was "star" early on in training camp practices. In addition, Aaron Rodgers talked about how expectations are "not going to be the standard for a normal rookie" with Doubs. There is an opportunity for Doubs to considerably exceed expectations as a rookie.

Robert Tonyan: Missing more than half of 2021, Tonyan's per-game targets remained nearly identical compared to 2020. That said, his catch rate plummeted from 88.1% (2020) to 62.1% (2021) and touchdown regression hit hard. After scoring 11 times (1 TD per 4.7 receptions) in 2020, he converted only two of his 18 catches into touchdowns last season. Given that Davante Adams is now in Vegas, there is some upside from his mid-tier TE2 ADP.

Lamar Jackson: It's not a surprise that Jackson's year-over-year numbers dipped following his elite 2019 MVP season. Jackson threw 10 fewer touchdowns in 2020 and threw for 208 yards or less in 12 of 15 games. Even so, his real fantasy success comes from his rushing ability and he has now rushed for 1,000-plus yards in back-to-back seasons.

Over the final five weeks of the season, Jackson averaged only 161.8 passing yards per game, but he threw 11 touchdowns and rushed for 430 yards and four more scores. During that span, he averaged a massive 27.67 fantasy points per game.

J.K. Dobbins: The Ravens have had a 1,000-yard rusher in back-to-back seasons. Unfortunately (for the team's running backs), that player is quarterback Lamar Jackson. For a team that loves to run the ball, however, Dobbins offers plenty of profit potential as a mid-RB2 type. Dobbins could potentially be a steal if Harbaugh follows through on a "main offensive point of emphasis" -- to get the RBs more involved in the passing game.

Gus Edwards: Best in standard (non-PPR) formats, Edwards performed as fantasy's RB28 in non-PPR, RB35 in half-PPR and RB37 in full PPR formats in 2020. Edwards has a minimum of 133 carries, 711 yards and 5.0 YPC in all three of his NFL seasons. While Dobbins will handle the bulk of touches, Edwards should approach double-digit touches per game and has stand-alone flex value, especially in standard-scoring formats.

Marquise Brown: Brown's catch rate (58.0%) and yards per target (7.7) dropped in 2020 from his rookie season of 64.8% and 8.2 Y/T, respectively. Since he played a full 16-game season, however, his overall numbers (58/769/8) improved last season. In a run-first offense with added competition from Rashod Bateman and Sammy Watkins, Brown has a little more appeal in best ball than in season-long formats.

Rashod Bateman: Cornerback Marlon Humphrey says that the Ravens "got a pretty good one" with Bateman, their first of two first-round picks in 2021. It wouldn't surprise me if he outperformed fellow former first-rounder Marquise Brown when both are on the field, but Bateman's status (core muscle surgery) for Week 1 is uncertain.

Sammy Watkins: Entering his eighth NFL season playing for his fourth NFL franchise, Watkins is reunited with offensive coordinator Greg Roman, with whom he had 60/1,047/9 in his age-22 season (2015). Missing six games last season, Watkins set career lows in receiving yards (421) and touchdowns (two) in 2020. Watkins has generated some positive reviews this summer, but he's once again dealing with an ("not a serious," per Harbaugh) injury at the moment.

Mark Andrews: Andrews missed a couple of games and Marquise Brown (58/769/8) outproduced Andrews (58/701/7) over the full season, but the third-year tight end led the team in YPG (50.1). The main concern with Andrews' outlook is that even if he gets the biggest slice of the pie, the team's passing offense averaged a league-low 171.2 yards per game in 2020.

With Damien Williams opting out of the 2020 season, it boosts CEH's short-term (i.e., 2020) outlook and catapults him into the (upper?) RB1 range. It wasn't that long ago that fantasy owners saw what a prominently-featured rookie running back (Kareem Hunt, RB3, 2017) could do in an Reid-led offense.

While the Chiefs will give Edwards-Helaire all he can handle, Williams enters the season as the team's No. 2 back and offers some sleeper appeal. While injuries are a huge part of the game (and especially at running back), but the COVID-19 pandemic will potentially create even more opportunities for backup running backs than usual and we've seen waiver-wire backs thrive in spot duty in this offense.

Watkins was amazing in Week 1 (9/198/3) and productive in the playoffs (14/288/1 in three games), but below-average (to be kind) in between. In 13 games from Weeks 2 to 17, Watkins had a 43/475 receiving line with no touchdowns and performed as fantasy's WR74 during that non-Week 1 stretch. Not only has Watkins missed multiple games in four of the past five years, but it's possible, perhaps likely, that second-year receiver Mecole Hardman leapfrogs him on the targets pecking order.

Kansas City Chiefs 2019 Fantasy Football Projections

In addition to viewing our 2019 Fantasy Football Projections by position, we will post our preseason projections per team.

The upside was clear, but nobody could have anticipated the level of success that Mahomes had in 2018. Not only was he named NFL Most Valuable Player in his first season as a starter, but Mahomes became the first player in league history to finish with a 5,000-yard and 50-TD season. Given the difficulty of repeating that lofty production and the incredible depth at quarterback, it's possible that Mahomes disappoints fantasy owners at his current ADP (even though he's still ranked as my QB1).

From Week 14 through the postseason, Williams went on a scoring spree with 10 touchdowns (six rushing and four receiving) and racked up 602 scrimmage yards on 105 touches including 28 receptions. The Chiefs only added Carlos Hyde (free agency) and Darwin Thompson (sixth round) as competition this offseason so Williams will open the season as the unquestioned lead back. Assuming he maintains that role for the entire season, there is enormous upside in Kansas City's high-powered offense.

Hyde began last season as Cleveland's workhorse -- only Todd Gurley (129) and Ezekiel Elliott (117) had more carries through the first six weeks of the season than Hyde (114). Inefficient (3.35 YPC) on his massive workload, the Browns traded him to Jacksonville and Hyde was even less efficient there (3.26 YPC). Given that Williams lacks a workhorse track record, Hyde and rookie Darwin Thompson are both worth late-round dart throws.

Hill's ADP was already on the rise since June when it was reported that his suspension wouldn't be lengthy. Not only won't there be a lengthy suspension, but there won't be one at all. Among qualified players, Hill led the NFL in yards per touch (15.0) as he racked up 1,630 scrimmage yards and 14 total touchdowns -- 12 receiving, one rushing and one return. With a strong-armed, MVP-winning quarterback, few players can match Hill's weekly upside.

Even though Watkins has played five NFL seasons, he just recently turned 26. That said, he's had just one top-24 season (WR16, 2015) over that five-year span. A major reason for Watkins disappointing start to his career has been durability (or a lack thereof). Over the past four seasons, Watkins has missed three-plus games in three seasons with a total of 18 missed games during that span. There was some optimism with the former fourth-overall pick before it was announced that Hill won't be suspended. But even if Watkins manages to stay healthy for all of 2019, he's no better than third in line for targets.

There is a good chance that Kelce finishes as fantasy's top-scoring tight end (AGAIN) as he has finished as the TE1, TE2 and TE1 over the past three seasons, respectively. Only one player had five-plus catches in 15 games last season and it was Kelce, who briefly held the single-season record for most receiving yards (1,336) for a tight end. Whether it was in the era that Rob Gronkowski was dominant or with Kelce now, I tend to balk at the steep price of an elite tight end considering its impact to roster construction.
