2018 Fantasy Football Mock Draft: 14 Teams, Half-PPR, 7th Pick

As the saying goes, practice makes perfect. While we may not be able to draft a "perfect" fantasy football team, the more we practice, the better our teams will be.

Starting on July 7th, we began drafting (at least) one fantasy football team per day using the 2018 Fantasy Football Mock Draft Simulator and we will continue to do so up until the start of the 2018 NFL season.

Each day, we will switch things up -- e.g., PPR vs. standard scoring, league size, draft slot, 2-QB leagues, auction leagues, etc.

In addition, we will centralize links to our daily fantasy football mock drafts for an easy way to keep track of our mock drafts.

Details of today's mock draft:
  • Scoring: Half-PPR scoring
  • # of Teams: 14
  • Draft Slot: 7
  • Starters: QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, TE, Flex (RB/WR/TE), K, DST
  • Bench Size: 6

With that said, here are the results of today's mock draft:

1.07 - Saquon Barkley, RB, New York Giants: Over the past two years, a rookie running back -- Ezekiel Elliott (2016) and Kareem Hunt (2017) -- has led the NFL in rushing. Arguably the most talented back to enter the league since Adrian Peterson, Barkley has a rare combination of size (233 pounds) and athleticism (4.4 forty and 41-inch vertical) and was highly productive (3,801 YFS and 43 TDs over past two seasons) at Penn State. The do-it-all back is a top-five fantasy option with legitimate upside to lead the position in fantasy points as a rookie.

2.08 - Doug Baldwin, WR, Seattle Seahawks: Falling just shy of the 1,000-yard mark last season, Baldwin has 247/3,188/29 over the past three seasons and has finished as the WR7, WR10 and WR13, respectively, in standard-scoring formats over the past three seasons.

3.07 - Kenyan Drake, RB, Miami Dolphins: Over the final five games of the 2017 season, Drake ran for a league-high 444 yards on 91 carries (4.88 YPC) with two touchdowns and added 17 receptions for 150 yards. With the Dolphins adding Frank Gore and rookie Kalen Ballage, Drake won't see his December workload (21.6 touches per game) carry over into the 2018 season, but he's a solid RB2 in a 14-team league.

4.08 - Demaryius Thomas, WR, Denver Broncos: DT is coming off his worst season (83/949/5) since breaking out in 2012. Signing Case Keenum may not return Thomas to the days of 90/1,400/10 numbers he posted from 2012 to 2014, but a bounce-back campaign to the tune of 90 catches and 1,200 yards seems reasonable with steadier quarterback play.

5.07 - Rashaad Penny, RB, Seattle Seahawks: With good size (5-11, 220) and speed (4.46 forty), Penny's first-round pedigree means that he should handle the majority of the team's workload early on.

6.08 - Delanie Walker, TE, Tennessee Titans: Extending his streak of 800-yard seasons to four, Walker finished as fantasy's TE7 in his age-33 season. The veteran tight end has finished as a top-12 fantasy tight end in all five of his seasons with the Titans and should do so again.

7.07 - Tevin Coleman, RB, Atlanta Falcons: A nice value in Round 7, Coleman has finished as a top-24 running back and exceeded 900 yards from scrimmage in each of the past two seasons with 19 total touchdowns since 2016.

8.08 - Jordan Reed, TE, Washington Redskins: If he ever puts together a 16-team season, Reed has the potential to lead all tight ends in fantasy points. Unfortunately, he has missed at least four games in four of his five NFL seasons including 10 missed games last season. In his healthiest season (14 games in 2015), Reed had a monster 87/952/11 line.

9.07 - Nick Chubb, RB, Cleveland Browns: Going into the draft, most expected the Browns to take a Chubb. Even though they signed Carlos Hyde to a three-year deal, Chubb could still lead the team in carries although it's unclear how the workload will be allocated between Chubb, Hyde and Duke Johnson.

10.08 - Rishard Matthews, WR, Tennessee Titans: After hauling in 945 yards and nine touchdowns in his first season with the Titans, Matthews posted a 53/795/4 season in 2017. While he will (or should) take a back seat to Davis, Matthews has the potential for another top-40 season.

11.07 - Ben Roethlisberger, QB, Pittsburgh Steelers: Throwing for 3,800-plus yards in each of the past five seasons, Big Ben has thrown 28-plus touchdowns in four of those five seasons. Since being drafted 11th overall in 2004, Roethlisberger has played a 16-game season only three times in his career so there's certainly a strong chance that he'll miss a game or two in 2018. With the league's best RB/WR combo in Le'Veon Bell and Antonio Brown, Roethlisberger has weekly QB1 upside, but he's finished as the QB20, QB13 and QB10 over the past three seasons, respectively.

12.08 - Andrew Luck, QB, Indianapolis Colts: In his past three full seasons, Luck has finished as fantasy's QB4 (2013), QB2 (2014) and QB4 (2016). If he can stay healthy for the entire season, there is plenty of profit potential.

13.07 - Los Angeles Chargers D/ST

14.08 - Stephen Gostkowski, K, New England Patriots

15.07 - Michael Gallup, WR, Dallas Cowboys: Even though the Cowboys waited until the third round to select Gallup, it's possible that the PFF favorite leads all rookie wide receivers in production given the team's lack of playmakers.
