QUARTERBACKS

Trevor Lawrence572.2383.44148.526.619.4463283.53.15300.75
C.J. Beathard36.521.9251.91.280.995.915.90.0615.17

Trevor Lawrence: What a difference a year (and a new coaching staff) made for Lawrence! The 2021 NFL Draft's top overall pick completed 66.3% of his pass attempts for 7.0 yards per attempt, while throwing 25 touchdowns and only seven interceptions in 2022. (That compares to 59.6%, 6.0 Y/A and 12:17 TD-INT ratio in 2021.) In fact, Lawrence improved considerably as the season progressed — 69.7% completion rate, 7.4 Y/A and a 15-to-two TD-INT ratio from Weeks 9-18. Bigger things could/should be in store for Lawrence in 2023, as Calvin Ridley joins Christian Kirk, coming off career numbers (84/1108/8 in 2022), Evan Engram, and Travis Etienne.

RUNNING BACKS

D'Ernest Johnson11.651.60.286.550.60.316.95

Travis Etienne: A Lisfranc injury delayed his NFL debut by a year, but Etienne finished as fantasy's RB17 (half-PPR scoring) in 2022 with 220 carries for 1,125 yards and five touchdowns and 35 catches for 316 yards. The main concern with Etienne going into the 2023 season, however, is how the coaching staff will allocate the backfield's workload. For example, the Florida Times-Union's Demetrius Harvey wrote earlier this offseason, Tank Bigsby could even "out-touch [Etienne] in some games depending on who has the hot hand."

Tank Bigsby: The Jaguars used a third-round pick on Bigsby, and the former Auburn Tiger has impressed in the spring and summer. Doug Pederson has said that Bigsby is "better pass-catcher [than anticipated]." There is plenty of upside, even though his ADP has been on the rise, given expectations that Jacksonville plans to shift more of the workload off of Etienne's plate.

WIDE RECEIVERS

Tim Jones2.428.60.30005.86
Elijah Cooks113.20.10002.42

Calvin Ridley: Ridley broke out in 2020 with 90 catches for 1,374 yards and nine touchdowns as he finished as fantasy's WR4 (half-PPR scoring). Since then, he served a year-long suspension in 2022 after posting career lows in yards per reception (9.1), yards per target (5.4) and catch rate (59.6%) while appearing in only five games in 2021. Ridley gets a chance to rebound with an ascending quarterback and offense. The upside is through the roof even though he's not the screaming value he was earlier this summer before his ADP skyrocketed.

Christian Kirk: Kirk set career highs across the board — 133 targets, 84 receptions, 1,108 yards and eight touchdowns — in his first season with the Jaguars. It will be difficult for Kirk to duplicate last season's 23.2% target share with Calvin Ridley returning from suspension.

Zay Jones: Trailing only Kirk in receiving, Jones posted a career season (82/823/5 on 121 targets) in 2022 as he finished as fantasy's WR26 in half-PPR scoring. The presence of Ridley as the WR1 pushes Jones down the pecking order for targets, but the offense overall should be even better than it was in 2022.

Evan Engram: The Jaguars designated Engram with the franchise tag, but the two sides reached agreement on a three-year extension. While Engram missed 14 games in his first three seasons (2017-19), he has missed only two games over the past three years. He posted career highs in receptions (73), yards (766) and catch rate (74.5%) in 2022.

C.J. Beathard40.424.8270.71.451.0513.50.0114.94

Trevor Lawrence: One of eight quarterbacks to throw more than 600 pass attempts in 2021, few things went right for Lawrence and the Jaguars in 2021. Throwing more interceptions (league-high 17) than touchdowns (12), the No. 1 overall draft pick in 2021 averaged only 6.0 Y/A. On a positive note, Urban Meyer is gone and the team made some additions to its offensive line and pass catchers this offseason.

RUNNING BACKS

Snoop Conner26.2112.70.735.540.70.324.27

Travis Etienne: Etienne missed his entire 2021 rookie season due to a Lisfranc injury, but the former two-time ACC Offensive Player of the Year has home run speed and a versatile skill set to be used as a weapon in the passing game. In fact, he talked up his interest in being deployed as a Deebo Samuel-like hybrid weapon this summer.

James Robinson: Robinson has been highly productive when on the field. Through two seasons, Robinson has averaged 4.55 yards per carry, racked up 2,403 scrimmage yards, hauled in 80 receptions and scored 18 total touchdowns. Not only did Robinson tear his Achilles at the end of the 2021 season, but the former UDFA will compete with first-rounder Travis Etienne for touches in 2022. That said, the new coaching staff has talked up Robinson, who did not start training camp on PUP and has had a "goal to come back Week 1."

Christian Kirk: Getting a larger contract than most expected, Kirk is better suited to be a(ny) team's (Jacksonville's) WR2 even though he was paid like a WR1. Kirk set career highs in both receptions (77) and yards (982) last season, but he's not much better than a WR4 in fantasy.

Marvin Jones: In his first season in Jacksonville, Jones had 73 catches for 832 yards and four touchdowns. While Jones scored only four touchdowns last season, he was targeted 11 times inside the 10 -- only seven players had more. Jones has finished as a top-35 fantasy wide receiver in four of the past five seasons.

Evan Engram: Engram set (still) career highs in his rookie season (2017) in targets (115), receptions (64), yards (722) and touchdowns (six). Since then, he's had a couple of injury-plagued seasons and a couple of seasons plagued by ineffective coaching. At a minimum, the Jags new TE-friendly coaching staff should get more out of Engram, which could make him a draft-day discount.

Fantasy Football TE Waiver-Wire Rankings Heading into Week 9

Every week, we examine players that may be available on your league's waiver wire that could help your team in the short and/or long term.

For a player to be listed, he must be rostered in 50 percent (or less) of Yahoo! leagues. The goal is to provide recommendations of players that have a greater chance of being available on your league's waiver wire. Of course, your league's size and settings could significantly impact whether these players (or better options) are available in your particular league(s).

With that said, here are some tight end waiver-wire options to consider heading into Week 9 (Yahoo! % rostered in parenthesis):

[Note: Players listed below are sorted by our preference to add.]

1. Dan Arnold, Jacksonville Jaguars (4%)

Arnold led the Jaguars in receiving on Sunday with eight catches for 68 yards on 10 targets (19.61%). It was the second time in the past three games that Arnold has had a target share of at least 19%.

The matchup next week against the Bills isn't great, but it's possible that Arnold will once again lead the team in target share. At a minimum, his expected target share in a game where the Jaguars will be massive underdogs should at least put him in the streamer mix.

Over his past three games, Arnold has a total of 16 catches for 159 yards on 23 targets (7.67/G). Marvin Jones Jr. (160 yards) is the only Jag with more receiving yards during that stretch. Heading into Monday Night Football, Arnold ranks fifth among tight ends in targets per game from Weeks 5 to 8.

2. Evan Engram, New York Giants (32%)

Since making his season debut in Week 3, Engram has a minimum of four targets in every game and he is averaging 5.8 per contest. While he has yet to score, Engram is averaging 4.0/34.2 per game and has finished as a top-15 tight end in two of his past three games.

Engram has a favorable Monday Night Football matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs. The matchup in Week 9 is nearly as favorable, as the Las Vegas Raiders had allowed the fourth-most fantasy points to opposing tight ends heading into Week 8.

3. Pat Freiermuth, Pittsburgh Steelers (10%)

For a second game in a row, Freiermuth had seven targets. Scoring his second touchdown of the season, the second-round rookie out of Penn State finished Sunday's game with four catches for 44 yards and a score.

Over the past two weeks, Freiermuth has combined for 11 catches for 102 yards and a touchdown on 14 targets. He has finished as a top-12 fantasy tight end in both weeks and now has done so in three of his past five games played.

Mike Glennon37.823.42571.660.98715.40.0416.74

Daniel Jones: The offseason was kind to Jones. With the Giants signing Kenny Golladay to a four-year contract as the team's WR1 and drafting Kadarius Toney in the first round, the rest of the team's solid group of pass-catchers -- Sterling Shepard, Darius Slayton, Evan Engram, etc. -- will have easier opportunities. The upgrades to the receiving corps combined with his sneaky rushing upside gives Jones the potential to outperform his draft-day cost.

Technically, Todd Gurley was better (fantasy's RB1), but Barkley was the RB2 in his rookie season and led the NFL in scrimmage yards (2,028), scored 15 touchdowns and hauled in 91 catches. Injuries have kept him out of 17 of the team's past 19 games and he may be eased in slowly as he returns from last year's torn ACL. If his health cooperates in 2021, however, Barkley has the skill set to finish as a top-three back.

Devontae Booker: It appears that Barkley (ACL) will be ready for Week 1, but Booker enters 2021 as his handcuff and could get a larger-than-usual share of the workload early if the team eases Barkley in.

Kenny Golladay: Golladay exceeded the 1,000-yard milestone in back-to-back seasons (2018 and 2019) with the Lions and led the NFL in receiving touchdowns (11) in 2019. Although 2020 was a lost season due to a hip injury, Golladay had either 100-plus yards or 50-plus yards and a score in the four games he played before sustaining the injury. Signing a four-year deal with the Giants, the QB downgrade from Matthew Stafford to Daniel Jones and a more crowded receiver room limits his ceiling.

Sterling Shepard: Shepard missed four games in 2020 and he has now missed four-plus games in three of the past four seasons. Adding Golladay to the receiving corps pushes Shepard down a spot on the depth chart, but we project him for the second-most snaps among the team's receivers.

Kadarius Toney: Toney missed a bunch of time during camp and is likely to be eased in slowly. In fact, that is what The Athletic's Dan Duggan expected before he missed a lot of time during training camp. As the season progresses, however, the first-rounder should become increasingly more involved in the game plan.

Darius Slayton: Excluding the year-over-year drop in touchdowns (eight to three), Slayton's 2020 numbers (50/751) were nearly identical to his rookie numbers (48/740) in 2019. Even if Kadarius Toney is eased in slowly, the first-rounder's presence (along with Golladay's) means that any of the team's receivers outside of Golladay will be difficult to trust.

Evan Engram: After two injury-plagued seasons, Engram was able to play a full 16-game slate and finished with 63 catches for 654 yards and only one touchdown. Not only was the single touchdown disappointing for fantasy managers, but Engram's YPG (40.9) and Y/R (10.4) were both career lows. While Engram led NYG in targets (109) last season, the addition of Kenny Golladay as the team's top pass-catching option and selection of Kadarius Toney in the first round could lead to less week-to-week consistency in targets for Engram.

Fantasy Football Projections 2021: New York Giants

Our 2021 Fantasy Football Projections will be viewable by both position and team.

Below you will find our 2021 fantasy football projections for the New York Giants.

Mike Glennon37.823.42571.660.98715.40.0416.74

Daniel Jones: The offseason was kind to Jones. With the Giants signing Kenny Golladay to a four-year contract as the team's WR1 and drafting Kadarius Toney in the first round, the rest of the team's solid group of pass-catchers -- Sterling Shepard, Darius Slayton and Evan Engram, etc. -- will have easier opportunities. The upgrades to the receiving corps combined with his sneaky rushing upside gives Jones the potential to outperform his draft-day cost.

Injuries have kept him out of 17 of the team's past 19 games (and his rehab this offseason continues to be a major storyline), but if his health cooperates in 2021, he has the skill set to finish as one of the top two or three backs in the league.

Devontae Booker: Even though the team recently added Alfred Morris, Booker is likely the favorite for RB2 duties (and RB1 duties if Barkley isn't ready to go for Week 1).

Signing a four-year deal with the Giants, the QB downgrade from Matthew Stafford to Daniel Jones and a more crowded receiver room limits his ceiling a bit. One other thing to monitor is Golladay's hamstring pull, which is not considered a significant injury.

Sterling Shepard: Shepard missed four games in 2020 and he has now missed four-plus games in three of the past four seasons. Adding Golladay to the receiving corps pushes Shepard down a spot on the depth chart, but he'll likely see the second-most snaps among the team's receivers barring injury.

Kadarius Toney: The Athletic's Dan Duggan expects the "Giants to bring Toney along slowly" and writes that "his offensive snaps will likely begin with specialized packages with the hope that he’ll grow into a bigger role as the season progresses."

Darius Slayton: Excluding the year-over-year drop in touchdowns (eight to three), Slayton's 2020 numbers (50/751) were nearly identical to his rookie numbers (48/740) in 2019.
