Jared Goff: The Lions finished top five in the NFL in both scoring and total offense in 2022, and Goff was much better in his second season with the Lions than he was in his first. Throwing for 4,438 yards, 29 touchdowns and only seven interceptions, Goff finished as fantasy's QB10. Perhaps he'll push for a second consecutive top-12 campaign and he benefits from playing behind one of the league's better offensive lines and with a talented group of pass catchers, but he's better drafted as a QB2.

Jahmyr Gibbs: It's a new-look backfield for the Lions — D'Andre Swift and Jamaal Williams are out, and Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery are in. Detroit's backfield ranked third in touches last season, and they were top 10 in RB targets. Gibbs lacks ideal size to be a workhorse back, but he will quickly develop into one of the league's best receiving backs and he has game-breaking speed (4.36 40-yard dash). It's possible, maybe likely, that Montgomery leads the backfied in carries while Gibbs leads it in fantasy points scored.

David Montgomery: The Lions had two backs finish as top-24 performers in 2022 — Williams (RB8) and Swift (RB22) — and no team's running backs scored more fantasy points than Detroit's. In other words, it's possible that the duo of Gibbs and Montgomery both perform as RB2-type backs (or better) in 2023. Montgomery has averaged only 3.94 YPC through four seasons, but he will have the opportunity to run behind a much better offensive line in Detroit than he had in Chicago. In addition, he is a capable receiver as well with a minimum of 25 receptions each year and a total of 155 through four seasons.

Amon-Ra St. Brown: Extremely productive through his first two seasons, St. Brown set career highs in 2022 with 106 receptions, 1,161 yards and six touchdowns. Given Jameson Williams' six-game suspension to start the season, St. Brown should continue to see massive target shares. Only six receivers had more red-zone targets than St. Brown (21) in 2022.

Jameson Williams: Williams made his NFL debut in Week 13, and he played only 78 offensive snaps in the team's final six games in 2022. While he had an 11.1% catch rate (one catch on nine targets), he had one 41-yard touchdown reception and one 40-yard run on his two NFL touches in 2022. He's a big play waiting to happen, but a gambling suspension will keep him off the field through the first six games. In addition, a hamstring injury sidelined him througout this preseason.

Sam LaPorta: The typical learning curve for tight ends transitioning to the NFL is steep, but it wouldn't surprise me if we're talking about LaPorta as one of the top 6-8 fantasy tight ends this time next year. Then again, as The Athletic's Colton Pouncy writes, LaPorta "has shown the ability to make catches in traffic, provide yards after the catch and find ways to get open. LaPorta might already be Goff's second-favorite target behind Amon-Ra St. Brown."

Sam LaPorta: Other than the typical learning curve for tight ends transitioning to the NFL, there is a lot to like about LaPorta. In fact, it wouldn't surprise me if we're talking about him as one of the top 6-8 fantasy tight ends this time next year, but the question remains how quickly he'll move into the top-12 mix as a rookie.

Jacksonville Jaguars Fantasy Football Projections 2022

Trevor Lawrence: One of eight quarterbacks to throw more than 600 pass attempts in 2021, few things went right for Lawrence and the Jaguars in 2021. Throwing more interceptions (league-high 17) than touchdowns (12), the No. 1 overall draft pick in 2021 averaged only 6.0 Y/A. On a positive note, Urban Meyer is gone and the team made some additions to its offensive line and pass catchers this offseason.

Travis Etienne: Etienne missed his entire 2021 rookie season due to a Lisfranc injury, but the former two-time ACC Offensive Player of the Year has home run speed and a versatile skill set to be used as a weapon in the passing game. In fact, he talked up his interest in being deployed as a Deebo Samuel-like hybrid weapon this summer.

James Robinson: Robinson has been highly productive when on the field. Through two seasons, Robinson has averaged 4.55 yards per carry, racked up 2,403 scrimmage yards, hauled in 80 receptions and scored 18 total touchdowns. Not only did Robinson tear his Achilles at the end of the 2021 season, but the former UDFA will compete with first-rounder Travis Etienne for touches in 2022. That said, the new coaching staff has talked up Robinson, who did not start training camp on PUP and has had a "goal to come back Week 1."

Christian Kirk: Getting a larger contract than most expected, Kirk is better suited to be a(ny) team's (Jacksonville's) WR2 even though he was paid like a WR1. Kirk set career highs in both receptions (77) and yards (982) last season, but he's not much better than a WR4 in fantasy.

Marvin Jones: In his first season in Jacksonville, Jones had 73 catches for 832 yards and four touchdowns. While Jones scored only four touchdowns last season, he was targeted 11 times inside the 10 -- only seven players had more. Jones has finished as a top-35 fantasy wide receiver in four of the past five seasons.

Evan Engram: Engram set (still) career highs in his rookie season (2017) in targets (115), receptions (64), yards (722) and touchdowns (six). Since then, he's had a couple of injury-plagued seasons and a couple of seasons plagued by ineffective coaching. At a minimum, the Jags new TE-friendly coaching staff should get more out of Engram, which could make him a draft-day discount.

Trevor Lawrence: The top overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, Lawrence has the arm talent to make any throw and is a plus athlete with the ability to extend plays or be used on designed runs. With a top-10 fantasy strength of schedule and the likelihood to trail in most of their games, Lawrence is a high-end QB2 with upside heading into his rookie campaign.

Travis Etienne: A two-time ACC Offensive Player of the Year, Etienne surprised many by returning to school for another season. As impressive as James Robinson was as a rookie (UDFA), Etienne's talent and (first-round) draft pedigree make him the favorite to emerge as the team's primary back sooner than later even if Robinson gets more touches in Week 1.

James Robinson: Robinson had modest performances in Weeks 14 and 15 and missed Weeks 16 and 17. Before that, however, he was the favorite for 2020 Fantasy Football MVP (if such an award actually existed).

As lead back of a one-win team, the UDFA was fourth in half-PPR fantasy points, fourth in YFS and third in touches through Week 13. Robinson has shown he can be highly effective as the featured back, but a new coaching staff and a first-round running back joining the mix could lead to a diminishing role as the season progresses.

Laviska Shenault: Shenault Jr. played only 10 snaps in Week 9 and then missed the following two games. Outside of those three games, the rookie had a minimum of three receptions in every game. Over the final five games of the season, he had 25 catches (on 36 targets) for 246 yards and four touchdowns and added six carries for 31 yards and he was the WR16 (half-PPR) over that stretch.

D.J. Chark: Chark had 73 catches for 1,008 yards and eight touchdowns in 2019, but he missed three games in 2020 and averaged 12.9 yards per game less he did in 2019. There is the potential for a bounce-back in his age-25 season with improved quarterback play, but missed time (broken finger, surgery) will slow his ability to build chemistry with Trevor Lawrence. Chark is expected to be ready for Week 1.

Marvin Jones: Jones averaged 61.1 YPG -- a three-year high -- last season and has averaged no less than 56.4 YPG over the past five years. In addition, he has scored nine touchdowns in three of his past four seasons. While Chark is a bounce-back candidate and Shenault Jr. is a breakout candidate, Jones is a solid depth option later in drafts.

James O'Shaughnessy: With Tyler Eifert no longer on the roster, O'Shaughnessy tops the depth chart entering 2021. At a minimum, he should build upon his 28/262/0 receiving line and there is some deep sleeper appeal in TE-premium leagues.

James O'Shaughnessy: With Tyler Eifert no longer on the roster, O'Shaughnessy tops the depth chart entering 2021. At a minimum, he should build upon his 28/262/0 receiving line, but there is some deep sleeper appeal in TE-premium leagues.

Week 16 Fantasy Football WR Start'em, Sit'em

The decision on which player to start, or sit, largely comes down to the options on your roster (and/or possibly the players available on your league's waiver wire).

As an example, Corey Davis is listed below as a "start" for Week 16. And I'd certainly be comfortable going into Week 16 with him as one of my starting wide receivers.

Then again, Davis may be a "sit" for your team.

In other words, if you own both Allen Robinson, A.J. Brown and Davis and only start two receivers, you should start Robinson and Brown and, in turn, bench Davis.

For a more direct answer on whether we would start Player X over Player Y, check our Week 16 Fantasy Football Rankings. Instead of making those direct comparisons, the goal here is to highlight players that we like, or dislike, for the week.

Week 16 Fantasy Football WR Start'em

Brandon Aiyuk, San Francisco 49ers (at ARI)

When he's been on the field, Aiyuk has been one of the most productive receivers in the NFL. The first-round rookie had nine catches for 73 yards and a touchdown on 13 targets against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 15. While he's missed a few games, Aiyuk's 73 yards were a six-game low.

In fact, Aiyuk has either surpassed the 100-yard mark or scored a touchdown in each of his past six games. During that stretch, he has averaged 7.5/94.7/0.7 on 11.7 targets per game and he's scored a minimum of 14.5 (half-PPR) fantasy points to finish no worse than WR20 in all six games. Not only does he have a minimum target share of 23.08% over that six-game span, but he has more than a 31.0% target share in back-to-back games and three of his past four.

Even though tight end George Kittle (foot) may return in Week 16, Deebo Samuel (hamstring) is expected to miss another week (or two). The Arizona Cardinals have allowed the 11th-most fantasy points to opposing receivers this season.

Marvin Jones, Detroit Lions (vs. TB)

Assuming Kenny Golladay (hip) misses another game, Jones should be in line for a massive target share in Week 16 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Jones' 12 targets in Week 15 were the third time in his past four games that he's had a dozen targets. In addition, Jones has averaged 10.0 targets over his past six games with a minimum target share of at least 28.57% in four of those six games.

Jones hauled in 10 catches for 112 yards and a touchdown against the Tennessee Titans and now has at least 112 yards and a touchdown in two of three games. While there is some boom-or-bust to his game, he has three top-seven fantasy performances since Week 10. Albeit an arbitrary threshold, the only other receivers to have as many top-seven performances during that span are Stefon Diggs, Tyreek Hill and Davante Adams.

The Bucs have allowed the 10th-most fantasy points to opposing receivers this season. In addition, the Buccaneers have allowed four top-seven WR performances since Week 11. Only the Houston Texans have allowed as many.

Corey Davis, Tennessee Titans (at GB)

Davis bounced back from a disappointing 3/34 Week 14 performance with four catches for 110 yards and a touchdown on six targets against the Lions in Week 15.

Having his best season (by a wide margin), Davis is 55 yards shy of the 1,000-yard milestone. The former top-five pick has five of his seven career 100-yard games this season and his per-game average of 78.8 YPG is more than 20 yards better than his previous career high (55.7, 2018).

Setting efficiency career highs with 15.8 Y/R and 75.9% catch rate, Davis is making the most of his opportunities in Tennessee's run-first offense as the No. 2 option in the passing game. Despite a difficult matchup on tap against the Green Bay Packers, there should be more volume than usual as the Titans are road underdogs in the game with the week's highest over-under.

Week 16 Fantasy Football WR Sit'em

D.J. Chark, Jacksonville Jaguars (vs. CHI)

Chark had a breakout sophomore campaign (73/1,008/8), but things have not gone as well in 2020. On a positive note, Chark's 53 receiving yards and WR50 half-PPR finish in Week 15 were his best numbers in four games. On a negative note, those were his "best" numbers during that span.

Excluding the three games in which he scored this season, Chark has finished as the WR59 on average in those nine games and no better than WR35 (Week 2). Chark remains a TD-or-bust play this week as the Chicago Bears have allowed the third-fewest to opposing wide receivers this season.

Chase Claypool, Pittsburgh Steelers (vs. IND)

At one point this season, "yes" was the no-brainer response to the question, "should I start [insert Steelers WR here]?"

That's no longer the rule -- and I have Claypool ranked the lowest amongst the team's top three receivers.

Mapletron isn't a must-sit, as he currently slots into my rankings as WR36, but he has three or fewer receptions in three consecutive games and no touchdowns in his past four games. Over the past three weeks, he's finished as fantasy's WR74, WR85 and WR61, respectively.

Not only are the once 11-0 Steelers on a three-game losing streak, but they are home underdogs in Week 16 to the Indianapolis Colts. The Colts have allowed the 11th-fewest fantasy points to opposing wide receivers this season.

Jerry Jeudy, Denver Broncos (at LAC)

Jeudy's struggles continue. The first-round rookie receiver out of Alabama had one catch for 19 yards on five targets in Week 15.

If you were told that one of his past five games included a game where a practice squad wide receiver was under center, it might not be as obvious as it should by only skimming the game logs. Here are his game logs since Week 11: 3/37 (eight targets), 0/0 (one), 1/5 (four), 2/42 (four) and 1/19 (five). Jeudy has finished no better than WR57 over that stretch.

Over that five-game stretch, Jeudy has a catch rate of 31.8% and a total of seven catches for 103 yards on 22 targets.

Jeudy had four catches for 73 yards on 10 targets in his first matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers (Week 8) and that kicked off a three-game stretch with 68-plus yards. Perhaps this game will start a two-game stretch to allow him to close the season strong, but he's better left on your bench even in leagues where you can start four receivers.

BUST ALERT - Tyler Lockett, Seattle Seahawks (vs. LAR)

Along with Tyreek Hill, Lockett is one of two receivers to score at least 45 fantasy points in a game this season. While it feels so long ago, Lockett had 15 catches for 200 yards and three touchdowns on 20 targets in Week 7 against the Arizona Cardinals. In fact, Lockett had the second-most fantasy points among wide receivers from Weeks 1 to 7. (Only Calvin Ridley had more.)

Since Week 8, Lockett has been much less impressive. Over his past eight games, Lockett has 67 yards or less every week and only one total touchdown. In addition, he has finished outside the top 36 fantasy wide receivers in all but two games over that stretch.

Coincidentally, one of the two exceptions was a WR33 performance against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 10. That said, the Rams have allowed the fewest fantasy points to opposing wide receivers this season.

Detroit Lions 2020 Fantasy Football Projections

A back injury cut his season in half, but Stafford was on pace for nearly 5,000 passing yards, 40 touchdowns and 10 interceptions (4,998/38/10) and the QB6 through Week 9. Healthy now, Stafford is poised for a big season if he can stay healthy as the Lions return all of their top receiving options and added one of the best pass-catching backs (D'Andre Swift) in the draft.

The top-ranked running back prospect by many entering the draft, Swift's landing spot is less-than-ideal in terms of fantasy outlook. While he has three-down ability and especially thrives as a receiver out of the backfield, Swift will form a committee with Kerryon Johnson (and now also Adrian Peterson). At this point, Swift is the favorite to be the 1A to Johnson's 1B (and Peterson's 1C), but a leg injury has limited his ability to practice and it's unclear how that will impact his early-season role.

Given his lack of durability (only 18 of 32 games played), Johnson essentially enticed the Lions to invest a high pick for his competition (D'Andre Swift). While Johnson was less efficient as a runner in 2019 (3.6 YPC) than 2018 (5.4), but there's a chance that he at least opens the season with the largest Week 1 role given the leg injury that Swift has battled in camp.

Recently released by Washington, Peterson reunites with his former OC Darrell Bevel in Detroit on a one-year deal. In his age-34 season, Peterson rushed for 898 yards and five touchdowns on 211 carries and added 17 catches for 142 yards in 2019. Fifth on the NFL's all-time rushing list, Peterson (14,216) is just over 1,000 yards behind Lions legend Barry Sanders (15,269) for fourth.

Golladay had 65 catches for a career-high 1,190 yards (18.3 Y/R) and a league-leading 11 touchdowns on 116 targets in 2019. Those numbers would have likely been better had Matthew Stafford not missed the second half of the season. Golladay posted a 35/640/7 line and had four of his five 100-yard games through the first eight weeks with Stafford.

Once again, Jones had his season cut short by injury as he missed three games in 2019 and seven games in 2018. Based on his per-game production when both Jones and Matthew Stafford were healthy, Jones was on pace for an 84/1,070/12 stat line in 2019.

Targeted nearly 100 times (97), Amendola hauled in 62 receptions for 678 yards and a touchdown in his first season with the Lions. While he had four games with at least seven catches and 95 yards, it's likely that we'll see a year-over-year dip for Amendola, especially if T.J. Hockenson makes a second-year leap.

Rookie tight ends typically struggle, but how much of a second-year jump will we see from Hockenson? One concern for last year's No. 8 pick is his less-than-100% ankle this offseason.
