Fantasy Football Projections 2021: Las Vegas Raiders

Our 2021 Fantasy Football Projections will be viewable by both position and team.

Below you will find our 2021 fantasy football projections for the Las Vegas Raiders.

QUARTERBACKS

PlayerAtt.Comp.YardsTDINTRushYardsTDPoints
Derek Carr540.1368.64158.823.229.4540.5121.52.63268.26
Marcus Mariota34.521.5267.41.40.9510.158.10.4823.09

Derek Carr: Carr has averaged 253.1, 253.4 and 256.4 passing yards per game over the past three seasons, respectively. Finishing as fantasy's QB13 in 2020, Carr posted a career-high 7.94 Y/A and his 5.2 TD% was the second best of his career. Lacking the upside of many other QB2 types, Carr is likely to outperform his current ADP and ranking -- he's never finished outside the top 20 fantasy QBs in seven seasons. That makes him an under-appreciated option, especially for those in 2-QB or Super Flex formats.

RUNNING BACKS

PlayerAtt.YardsTDRec.YardsTDPoints
Josh Jacobs247.51014.88.9129.6234.61.2200.4
Kenyan Drake117.9512.93.8344.9376.22.4148.74
Jalen Richard38.9175.10.6818.1143.90.849.83
Alec Ingold4.77.10.054.9420.410.06

Josh Jacobs: Improvements in durability, volume and red-zone efficiency helped to boost Jacobs' overall fantasy production (RB8 across scoring formats) despite an overall drop in efficiency from his 2019 rookie season. Despite a slight uptick in the passing game (2.2 receptions per contest) last season, Jacobs averaged only 4.26 yards per touch, a drop from 5.02 as a rookie.

Jacobs played 15 of 16 games, scored 12 touchdowns (compared to seven in 2019) and only Derrick Henry and Dalvin Cook had more touches than Jacobs (306). The addition of Kenyan Drake to the backfield should lead to fewer touches and especially fewer targets in 2021. Without a significant drop in Josh Jacobs' fantasy ADP, he will likely be a player that I avoid in drafts this summer.

Kenyan Drake: As lead backs for their respective teams in 2020, the duo of Josh Jacobs and Drake combined for a massive 570 touches last season. Obviously, that number will drop significantly now that they share a backfield, even if the Raiders plan to use Drake in a variety of ways including at receiver. With Drake often going in Round 9 or later in fantasy football mock drafts, Drake is worth the risk as an RB4+ that late.

WIDE RECEIVERS

Willie Snead12.7141.60.700024.71
Zay Jones4.957.50.400010.6

Henry Ruggs III: No team makes the tight end a bigger focal point of their passing offense than the Raiders do with Darren Waller. While Ruggs was the first receiver off the board in the 2020 NFL Draft, he was often used more as a decoy than a featured part of the passing offense. As a rookie, Ruggs finished with a 26/452/2 line (17.4 Y/R). Better things are in store for Ruggs in 2021, but until Derek Carr starts taking more shots down the field, there will be a lot of boom-or-bust to the second-year receiver's game log.

John Brown: Two seasons removed from a 1,000-yard campaign, it wouldn't be far-fetched for Brown to lead the wide receivers in production. That said, consistent weekly production is likely to elude the position group with Darren Waller dominating targets.

Foster Moreau15.6188.11.400035.01
Derek Carrier222.10.10003.81

Darren Waller: Waller set career highs across the board -- 107 receptions on 146 targets for 1,196 yards and nine touchdowns -- and was dominant down the stretch. Not only did Waller have a 13/200/2 game in Week 13, but he exceeded the 100-yard mark in four of his final five games of the season.

Derek Carr485.8335.23667.821.138.533.391.60.5226.39
Finishing as a top-20 fantasy quarterback every year of his career, Carr was fantasy's QB17 in 2019. On the other hand, Carr has finished as a top-12 fantasy quarterback only once (2016). So while he's performed better than most likely realize, there has been limited upside as well. That said, the Raiders are giving him every opportunity to succeed by loading up on pass-catchers in the draft and free agency.

RUNNING BACKS

PlayerAtt.YardsTDRec.YardsTDPoints
Josh Jacobs267.31176.17.3534.62820.69194.05
Jacobs had double-digit carries every week he was active as a rookie and ranked among the top 10 players in touches per game (20.15) in 2019. That said, Jacobs had more than three targets only once last season. While Jacobs has a goal to catch "at least 60 balls, the team re-signed Jalen Richard (36 catches on 43 targets in 2019). While they have moved on from offseason additions Lynn Bowden (traded to Miami) and Theo Riddick (released), the team has recently brought in another pass-catching back (Dare Ogunbowale) for a visit.
Jalen Richard51219.30.7736.7337.60.7364.69
Richard doesn't have much stand-alone value outside of deep PPR leagues. In fact, his biggest fantasy impact could be the dent he puts into Josh Jacob's fantasy value as the second-year back has set a goal for himself of 60 catches, but we have Richard projected for more catches than Jacobs.

WIDE RECEIVERS

PlayerRec.YardsTDRushYardsTDPoints
Henry Ruggs III49.9716.15.746.741.50.13110.98
A surprise to some as the first receiver off the board in the draft, it was not a surprise to any that Ruggs ran the fastest 40-yard dash (4.27) at the combine in February. With game-breaking speed, Ruggs scored on one of every four times he touched the ball in college.
Bryan Edwards44.5571.83.7800079.86
When describing Edwards, Derek Carr compared him to his former Fresno State teammate Davante Adams. "Bryan is a very violent route runner and that's a good thing. He's very violent, he's very aggressive in his cuts, he reminds me -- when the ball is in the air -- of Davante, great ball skills." Definitely a player to target in dynasty drafts, Edwards may outperform the expectations most have for his rookie season as well.
Hunter Renfrow50.2564.83.5100077.54
After returning from a late-season injury, Renfrow closed his rookie campaign with a bang. The slot receiver had a 6/102/1 line (or better) in each of his final two games to finish the year with 49/605/4 on 71 targets over 13 games. A step forward in volume may be unlikely for the Clemson product given the draft capital that Mike Mayock used to improve the team's receiving corps this offseason.

TIGHT ENDS

Darren Waller67.88173.39000102.04
In his breakout season, Waller finished second amongst tight ends in receptions (90), third in targets (117) and second in yards (1,145). With the team's additions via free agency and the draft, Waller will have much more competition for targets in 2020, but he's still a top-five option at the position.
Foster Moreau15.5136.41.5500022.94
With the addition of Jason Witten and a number of rookie receivers, Moreau's numbers may actually decline from his rookie season (21/174/5).
Jason Witten16.3134.50.8200018.37
A shell of his former self in terms of fantasy production, Witten still managed to post a top-12 season in his first year out of retirement. That said, his 8.4 Y/R and 6.4 Y/T were the lowest of his career and his non-rookie lows of 83 targets and 63 receptions are about to plummet as well.

Derek Carr544.6360.84002.823.9610.0826.566.30.4244.82
Since entering the league five years ago, Carr has finished as a top-20 fantasy quarterback every season. The QB18 in 2018, Carr threw for a career-high 4,049 yards but a career-low 19 touchdowns. Carr's career-low 3.4% touchdown rate was a full percentage point below his career average, but the improvement in weapons -- Antonio Brown, Tyrell Williams and Josh Jacobs -- should see that normalize to his career average or even exceed it. At this point, Carr is vastly underrated compared to current expectations (ADP) and even my own rankings.

Josh Jacobs236.11038.87.0835.62670.89178.4
With little tread on the tires, Jacobs, one of Oakland's three first-round picks, will assume the lead-back role for the revamped Oakland offense. More important than possessing the top-end speed that he lacks, Jacobs has the quickness, elusiveness and power to become the every-down back that Oakland has drafted him to become.
Jalen Richard41.7204.30.6345.7388.51.1469.9
Tied with Jared Cook for the team lead in receptions (68) last season, Richard finished as a top-30 fantasy running back in PPR scoring (RB43 in standard). A more talented receiving corps and a first-round rookie running back with the potential to be a three-down back means that Richard will likely cede some of that passing-game work to others.
Doug Martin81.4333.72.048.661.10.1352.5
Martin had 190 touches for 839 scrimmage yards for Oakland last season and even though he re-signed with the club, first-rounder Josh Jacobs will put a huge dent into Martin's workload.

Antonio Brown94.41161.18.97170.01170.69
Since 2013, Brown has had more than 100 catches and 150 targets every season and averaged 1,524 receiving yards and 11.2 touchdowns per season over that six-year span. In addition, AB has finished as a top-three fantasy wide receiver in five consecutive seasons. A top-three season may be less likely with Derek Carr instead of Ben Roethlisberger, but he should still rank near the league lead in targets.
Tyrell Williams50.3774.64.53000104.64
A few seasons removed from a 1,059-yard breakout season, Williams has had a couple of solid seasons --43/728/4 in 2017 and 41/653/5 in 2018. As Oakland's clear No. 2 receiver, Williams is unlikely to reach the 1,000-yard mark, but he could exceed the production he's had with the Chargers over the past couple of seasons.
Hunter Renfrow34353.61.700045.56
Not the biggest (5-10, 184) or fastest (4.59 forty), Renfrow has overachieved compared to expectations set for him by others in college. Outside of deep PPR formats, Renfrow is unlikely to make a significant impact in his rookie campaign.

In addition, AB has finished as a top-three fantasy wide receiver in five consecutive seasons. A top-three season may be less likely now that he's forced himself out of Pittsburgh, but Brown remains a top-eight option at the position.
Tyrell Williams52800.84.68000108.16
A few seasons removed from a 1,059-yard breakout season, Williams has had a couple of solid seasons --43/728/4 in 2017 and 41/653/5 in 2018. As Oakland's clear No. 2 receiver, Williams should outperform his numbers over the past couple of seasons, but he's unlikely to return to the 1,000-yard level barring an injury to Brown.
Hunter Renfrow37.2386.91.8600049.85
As much as he may lack the type of the size (5-10, 184) and athleticism (4.59 forty), Renfrow has overachieved expectations set for him by others in college. It wouldn't be a surprise if his reliability and production from the slot leads to fantasy relevance in deeper PPR formats in future seasons.

2018 Fantasy Football RB Waiver-Wire Options Heading Into Week 8

Every week, we examine players that may be available on your league's waiver wire that could help your team in the short and/or long term.

For a player to be listed, he must be owned in 50 percent (or less) of Yahoo! leagues. The goal is to provide recommendations of players that have a greater chance of being available on your league's waiver wire. Of course, your league's size and settings could significantly impact whether these players (or better options) are available in your particular league(s).

With that said, here are some running back waiver-wire options that I like heading into Week 8 (Yahoo! ownership in parenthesis):

[Note: Players listed below are sorted by my preference to add.]

1(a). Doug Martin, Oakland Raiders (23 percent)

As expected, the Raiders have placed Marshawn Lynch on Injured Reserve, which essentially ends his season (although he's technically eligible to return in Week 16) and perhaps his career. That opens up opportunities for Martin in addition to Jalen Richard and DeAndre Washington, but the low-powered offense may not lead to a ton of fantasy points for the Muscle Hamster.

Averaging less than 3.0 yards per carry in each of the previous two seasons, Martin is averaging 3.67 YPC on just 27 carries (99 yards) this season. He's added five yards on four receptions. If you're in a PPR league, I'd prefer Richard over Martin; hence, the 1(a) and 1(b) rankings.

1(b). Jalen Richard, Oakland Raiders (20 percent)

Richard has already set a career high with 31 receptions and is just three yards shy of his career high in receiving yards. Over the past four weeks, he has finished as a top-30 PPR running back three times with the exception being an RB38 weekly finish. Especially with the Raiders trading away Amari Cooper on Monday, it wouldn't be a surprise if Richard is targeted even more than before Cooper's trade and Lynch's injury and he was already on pace for nearly 100 targets.

3. Raheem Mostert, San Francisco 49ers (13 percent)

Over the past two weeks, Mostert has finished with 87 and 78 yards from scrimmage, respectively. If Matt Breida (ankle) sits out a game or two, Mostert should get the most opportunities in the San Francisco backfield over Alfred Morris. Either way, he's worth adding in all league formats.

4. Frank Gore, Miami Dolphins (30 percent)

Gore gained only 29 yards on his 10 carries in Week 7, but he now has double-digit carries in four consecutive games. He continues to share the backfield workload with Kenyan Drake, but he's one of seven running backs to get double-digit carries in each of the past four weeks. With the bye weeks beginning in earnest, a running back that's a virtual lock for double-digit carries should be owned in more than 30 percent of Yahoo! leagues.

5. Chris Ivory, Buffalo Bills (8 percent)

With LeSean McCoy leaving early in Week 7, Ivory carried the ball 16 times for 81 yards and added three receptions for 25 yards. If McCoy (concussion) isn't able to go on Monday night, Ivory could be a low-upside, volume-play RB2 in Week 8. Since the Bills and Patriots play on Monday Night Football, he could be insurance for both McCoy and/or Sony Michel owners.

2018 Fantasy Football Projections: Oakland Raiders

In addition to viewing our 2018 Fantasy Football Projections by position, we will post our preseason projections per team.

Below you will find our 2018 fantasy football projections for the Oakland Raiders.

Quarterbacks

PlayerAtt.Comp.YardsTDINTRushYardsTDFLPoints
Derek Carr546.5343.7388025.712.630.2800.52.7238.4
A disappointing season for Carr (and the Raiders in general), he threw for 3,496 yards, 22 touchdowns and 13 interceptions in 2017. Before last season, he threw for 3,900-plus yards in each of the previous two seasons with a total of 60 touchdowns.

Running Backs

PlayerAtt.YardsTDRec.YardsTDFLPoints
Marshawn Lynch201854.37.222.6167.20.50.9146.55
After taking a year off, Lynch returned to the NFL and rushed for 891 yards and seven touchdowns and added 20 catches for 151 yards in 2017. Now 32 years old, there's the possibility another Oakland native assumes the lead-back role, but Beast Mode should still pace the backfield in workload and production.
Doug Martin130.2494.83.521180.60.40.889.34
Going into his seventh NFL season, Martin has been somewhat of a two-outcome type of player — two seasons of 16 games and 1,400-plus rushing yards and four seasons of five-plus missed games and sub-500 rushing yards. Perhaps he has an unprecedented (for him) season of 500 to 1,399 rushing yards, but that number is more likely to be much closer to the lower end of that range.
Jalen Richard16.177.30.416.5140.312.125.96

Wide Receivers

PlayerRec.YardsTDRushYardsTDFLPoints
Amari Cooper73.61037.86.61.66.400.2143.62
After beginning his career with back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons, Cooper posted a disappointing 48/680/7 line over 14 games. Still only 24 years old, it's possible that Cooper bounces back and sets career highs with Michael Crabtree — the 1(b) to his 1(a) — now in Baltimore.
Jordy Nelson61.9767.67.70000.1122.76
Released by the Packers, Nelson had just 53 catches for 482 yards and six touchdowns in 2017. That said, he had 98/1,519/13 (2014) and 97/1,257/14 (2016) in his previous two full seasons. There's virtually no chance that he returns to the 90-catch, 1,200-yard mark he had in 2016, but it wouldn't be a surprise if he finished with eight-plus touchdowns, something that Michael Crabtree had done in each of the past three seasons in Oakland. And apparently he's been moving "like he's 28."
Martavis Bryant39.3593.44.70000.187.34
Suspended? Or not suspended? There was some uncertainty about whether Bryant would be available for the (start of the) 2018 season as Michael Gehlken of the Las Vegas Review-Journal wrote [in mid-June] that "[t]he Raiders fear potential NFL discipline might be imminent" for Bryant. More recently, he's been the subject of coach Jon Gruden's dissatisfaction: He’s got to get out here and play better."

Jared Cook51.5651.52.6000178.75
Cook led the team in receiving yards (688) and 20-yard receptions (10) and finished second in receptions (54), but he had just two touchdowns. In fact, Cook has just six touchdowns in 58 games over the past four seasons combined. Finishing as a top-12 fantasy tight in PPR formats (TE16 in standard-scoring leagues), Cook has top-10 upside should he generate a little more red-zone volume and success.
