2021 Fantasy Football Projections: Minnesota Vikings

Our 2021 Fantasy Football Projections will be viewable by both position and team.

Below you will find our 2021 fantasy football projections for the Minnesota Vikings.

QUARTERBACKS

PlayerAtt.Comp.YardsTDINTRushYardsTDPoints
Kirk Cousins512.3350.94047.229.4610.7633.6109.20.76273.69
Kellen Mond32.720.82421.340.983.712.60.0714.76

Kirk Cousins: Throwing 35 touchdowns and 13 interceptions (both career highs) in 2020, Cousins was especially good down the stretch. Cousins scored a minimum of 20 fantasy points in seven of his final nine games last season. Even though Stefon Diggs led the NFL in receiving, rookie Justin Jefferson (88/1,400/7) more than compensated for the 2019 version of Diggs (63/1,130/6). Given the team's run-first nature, however, Cousins remains a streaming option for those in single-QB 12-team leagues.

RUNNING BACKS

PlayerAtt.YardsTDRec.YardsTDPoints
Dalvin Cook293.41349.612.4749.3418.22.5291.25
Alexander Mattison124.3553.12.6714.9122.20.996.4
Kene Nwangwu32.3142.10.893.225.70.224.92
C.J. Ham515.50.17.157.90.413.89

Dalvin Cook: Once again, Cook has missed multiple games, but he set career highs in touches (356), yards from scrimmage (1,918) and touchdowns (17) and scored the third-most fantasy points (half-PPR) among running backs. The clear lead back in one of the league's most run-heavy offenses, Cook averaged a career-high 5.0 YPC in 2020 and has a minimum of 40 catches in each of the past three seasons.

Alexander Mattison: Dalvin Cook has never played a full season and has actually missed multiple games in all four seasons. Given Cook's durabilty history and the team's run-first offensive philosophy, Mattison is a high-end handcuff.

WIDE RECEIVERS

PlayerRec.YardsTDRushYardsTDPoints
Justin Jefferson87.712318000214.95
Adam Thielen80.31020.87.55270.05190.23

K.J. Osborn3.340.70.30007.52
Ihmir Smith-Marsette225.70.20004.77

Justin Jefferson: Jefferson exceeded all expectations in his inaugural season with 88 catches for a rookie-record 1,400 yards and seven touchdowns. Not only did the former LSU Tiger have seven 100-yard games, but he had double-digit targets in five of his final six games after doing so in only two of his first 10 games. Going forward, Jefferson is clearly the 1(a) to Adam Thielen's 1(b) in Minnesota's passing offense.

Adam Thielen: Thielen averaged only 61.7 YPG, but he scored 14 touchdowns in 2020. Only three receivers were targeted more often in the red zone than Thielen (19). While Justin Jefferson has moved ahead of him in the wide receiver pecking order, Thielen remains a strong WR2 in both real life and fantasy.

TIGHT ENDS

PlayerRec.YardsTDRushYardsTDPoints
Irv Smith38.3411.83.800083.13
Tyler Conklin29.9321.72.400061.52
Chris Herndon25.1274.52.200053.2
Brandon Dillon1.5150.10002.85

Irv Smith: Smith missed three games last season, but the second-year tight end set career highs in YPG (28.1), Y/R (12.2) and touchdowns (five). The arrow was pointing up for the third-year tight end with Kyle Rudolph in New York, but he will have meniscus surgery that is expected to "sideline him for at least the start of the regular season."

Tyler Conklin: Earlier this offseason, Mike Zimmer talked up Conklin when he said: "It's a bigger role for Tyler Conklin [this season]. He's kind of emerged as a guy that's moving upward, and with those two guys (Conklin and Smith), we have a lot of weapons there." With Smith set to have meniscus surgery, Conklin has the potential to flirt with TE1 (top-12) numbers if Smith misses most or all of the season.

Chris Herndon: Missing most of the 2019 season, Herndon played a full 16-game slate in 2020, but he was mostly a non-factor with an average receiving line of 1.9/17.9 and a total of three touchdowns. With the Vikings sending a fourth-round pick to acquire Herndon from the Jets, it's possible the Vikings expect Smith to miss a significant portion of the 2021 season.

2021 Fantasy Football Projections: New York Jets

Our 2021 Fantasy Football Projections will be viewable by both position and team.

QUARTERBACKS

Mike White36.222.4253.41.30.943.36.90.0714.57

Zach Wilson: Selected second overall in the 2021 draft, Wilson may be off the redraft radar outside of two-QB leagues, but his arm talent, mobility and improvisational skills could lead to some streaming potential as a rookie. In addition, Wilson may often find himself in a game script-positive situation for his weekly fantasy outlook. Meanwhile, Robert Saleh has described his preparation and study habits as being "light years ahead of normal rookies."

RUNNING BACKS

PlayerAtt.YardsTDRec.YardsTDPoints
Michael Carter1606803.6826.5213.71.2131.9

La'Mical Perine35.5143.80.837.452.40.330.1

Michael Carter: The Jets figure to employ a running back by committee approach and that could frustrate fantasy managers that roster Carter, who should be the 1(a) of that RBBC. The rookie out of UNC averaged 8.0 YPC as a senior and finished his collegiate career with 82 receptions.

Tevin Coleman: Injuries have limited Coleman during his two seasons with the 49ers as he has played only 36% and 6% of the offensive snaps in 2019 and 2020, respectively. That said, he brings with him knowledge of the system and familiarity with the coaches that Robert Saleh brought with him from San Francisco.

WIDE RECEIVERS

Denzel Mims16.62421.600042.1
Braxton Berrios2.326.20.10004.37

Corey Davis: Davis had a career-best season in 2020 (65/984/5, 15.1 Y/R). Transitioning to a new offense with a new coaching staff and a rookie quarterback, Davis may be the team's WR1, but it will likely be difficult to improve upon last year's success.

Elijah Moore: Mostly aligning in the slot at Mississippi, Moore, the 34th-overall pick this year, broke A.J. Brown's single-season reception record last season. It would make sense for the Jets to part ways with Jamison Crowder, but Moore has the potential to excel both inside and out.

Jamison Crowder: With the Jets drafting Moore, many expected to the Jets to part ways with Crowder, who has since taken a massive pay cut. In his two seasons with the Jets, Crowder has averaged a receiving line of 4.9/54.7/0.43 on 7.54 targets per game.

Jamison Crowder: Crowder took a massive pay cut and perhaps that eventually leads to a trade given that the Jets used an early second-round pick on Elijah Moore. In his two seasons with the Jets, Crowder has averaged 4.9/54.7/0.43 on 7.54 targets per game.

Joe Douglas made it a priority to improve one of the league's worst offensive lines this offseason, so Darnold should be better-protected in his age-23 season. The team let Robby Anderson walk in free agency, but they get back Chris Herndon, who played only one game, and drafted Denzel Mims, a height-weight-speed (6'3"-207-4.38) prospect.

Running behind one of the league's worst offensive lines in 2019, Bell rushed for 52.6 yards per game and averaged 3.2 yards per carry, both of which were career lows. Bell's 311 touches were eighth-most last season, but Bell ranked 35th (4.02) in yards per touch among the 38 running backs that amassed 140-plus touches last season. Improved efficiency should be expected from Bell as the Jets improved their offensive line, but the addition of the ageless Frank Gore casts serious doubt on Bell's ability to come close to last year's volume.
Frank Gore97.3374.61.4612.491.80.2556.9
Reunited with Adam Gase, Gore had 168 touches when the two were in Miami in 2018 and Gore has never averaged fewer than 10 touches per game in his career. While you may never feel comfortable having to start Gore in any given week, he's very likely to outperform his draft slot (Frank Gore Fantasy ADP). Of course, his biggest fantasy significance will likely be the frustration he causes Bell owners. The Athletic's Connor Hughes summed it up when he recently wrote: "Bell is a better player than Gore. But Gore looks like a better player for the Jets right now."

While the former first-round pick hasn't lived up to his draft pedigree, Perriman was a productive fantasy asset down the stretch last season. In the month of December, Perriman had 25/506/5 (20.24 Y/R) and closed the season with three consecutive 100-yard games. A potential late-round gem in 2020, Perriman offers plenty of upside if he can build upon that breakout with his new club. That said, a knee injury has kept him off the practice field.

Due to injury and suspension, 2019 was a lost season for Herndon. As a rookie in 2018, however, he emerged to become a factor -- sixth-most fantasy points from Weeks 6 to 16. An intriguing upside play for those that punt or stream the position, Herndon has had a "stellar camp, picking up right where he left off after a promising rookie season," per The Athletic's Connor Hughes.

In addition to viewing our 2019 Fantasy Football Projections by position, we will post our preseason projections per team.

Below you will find our 2019 fantasy football projections for the New York Jets.

QUARTERBACKS

PlayerAtt.Comp.YardsTDINTRushYardsTDPoints
Sam Darnold564349.74004.423.9715.5148.8156.21.1247.26
Even if there were some (expected) ups and downs as a rookie, Darnold ended 2018 on a positive note. Throwing six touchdowns to only one interception over his final four games, the (recently-turned) 22-year-old should build upon his late-season success with improved weapons in 2019.

RUNNING BACKS

Le'Veon Bell261.710737.8565.5517.52.46220.91
Returning to the field after sitting out 2018, Bell trades the high-powered Steelers offense for an improving-yet-not-as-potent Jets offense. In addition, Football Outsiders ranked the Jets offensive line 32nd (i.e., last) in run blocking (Adjusted Line Yards) in 2018. Even though he averaged only 4.0 yards per carry in 2017, Bell had a career-high 406 touches, 1,946 scrimmage yards and 11 touchdowns in his most recent season. Bell is ranked as a RB1 in my rankings, but he isn't a lock for a top-five fantasy finish like he once was.

WIDE RECEIVERS

PlayerRec.YardsTDRushYardsTDPoints
Robby Anderson64.6952.96.781.77.70.02136.86
Anderson's numbers were down year-over-year, but he finished strong when Sam Darnold returned from a foot injury. Over the final four games of the season, Anderson had 23 catches for 336 yards and three touchdowns. During that span, Anderson was the WR5 (WR6 in PPR). With improvement and more consistency from Darnold, Anderson has the potential to vastly exceed his current ADP and is one of my favorite targets as a third receiver.
Jamison Crowder63.8797.53.192.19.50.0299.96
Not only did he miss roughly half the season, but Crowder set a career low in receptions per game (3.2) and his 43.1 YPG was his lowest since his rookie season. A return to his 2016/2017 numbers -- 60-plus catches and 750-plus yards -- seems reasonable if he can stay healthy.
Quincy Enunwa52.56512.63150.0181.44
A high-ankle sprain sustained in mid-October killed his early-season momentum, but Enunwa showed good rapport with Sam Darnold to start the year. Enunwa had at least eight targets, four receptions and 57 yards in four straight games to kick off the season.

TIGHT ENDS

PlayerRec.YardsTDRushYardsTDPoints
Chris Herndon45.5577.94.100082.39
Fantasy's TE6 (TE7 in PPR) from Weeks 6 to 16, Herndon ranked 10th in receptions (33), fifth in yards (447) and fourth in touchdowns (four) among tight ends during that span. Herndon could face a two-game suspension for pleading guilty to DWI charges, but he's an excellent streaming option when active.

2018 Fantasy Football TE Waiver-Wire Options Heading Into Week 9

Every week, we examine players that may be available on your league's waiver wire that could help your team in the short and/or long term.

For a player to be listed, he must be owned in 50 percent (or less) of Yahoo! leagues. The goal is to provide recommendations of players that have a greater chance of being available on your league's waiver wire. Of course, your league's size and settings could significantly impact whether these players (or better options) are available in your particular league(s).

With that said, here are some tight end waiver-wire options that I like heading into Week 9 (Yahoo! ownership in parenthesis):

[Note: Players listed below are sorted by my preference to add.]

1. Jack Doyle, Indianapolis Colts (25 percent)

In his first game back from injury, Doyle made his presence felt as he hauled in six receptions for 70 yards and a touchdown on seven targets. Interestingly enough, Andrew Luck threw all three of his touchdowns to different tight ends as Eric Ebron and Mo Alie-Cox both scored as well. The Colts have a Week 9 bye, but coming out of their bye, Doyle (and Ebron) will be top-12 fantasy tight ends the rest of the way.

2. Vance McDonald, Pittsburgh Steelers (48 percent)

McDonald had three catches for 47 yards in Week 8, but he exceeded the 60-yard mark in three of his four games prior to Pittsburgh's bye. Although he has scored only one touchdown this season, McDonald has at least three catches in all but one game this season. At a position where volume and production is typically inconsistent, he provides fantasy owners with a solid floor on a weekly basis.

3. Chris Herndon, New York Jets (6 percent)

The volume is a concern to sustain the production, but Herndon continues to make his opportunities count. Extending his scoring streak to three games, the fourth-round rookie from The U. had just one catch for 16 yards and a touchdown. It was the second time in the past three games that Herndon had just two targets. Herndon will look to extend his touchdown streak to four games against the Dolphins, who allowed another rookie tight end (Jordan Thomas) to score (twice) in Week 8.

4. Hayden Hurst, Baltimore Ravens (3 percent)

The rookie had a pair of goose eggs in the previous two weeks, but he finished with two catches for 29 yards and a touchdown in Week 8. Before this game, the Ravens talked about geting Hurst more involved going forward so perhaps this is a sign of good things to come.

2018 Fantasy Football TE Waiver-Wire Options Heading Into Week 8

Every week, we examine players that may be available on your league's waiver wire that could help your team in the short and/or long term.

For a player to be listed, he must be owned in 50 percent (or less) of Yahoo! leagues. The goal is to provide recommendations of players that have a greater chance of being available on your league's waiver wire. With that said, here are some tight end waiver-wire options that I like heading into Week 8 (Yahoo! ownership in parenthesis):

[Note: Players listed below are sorted by my preference to add.]

1. C.J. Uzomah, Cincinnati Bengals (52 percent)

Owned slightly over our self-imposed 50-percent ceiling, Uzomah should be added if available in your league(s). At a position where waiver-wire options are generally limited, Uzomah is set up nicely for a productive outing in Week 8 with a matchup against the Buccaneers.

Through Week 7 NFL games, no team has allowed more fantasy points to the position than the Buccaneers. Uzomah had just two catches, two targets and 13 yards on Sunday Night Football, but he scored a touchdown. He now has 40-plus yards or a touchdown in five of his past six games.

2. Vance McDonald, Pittsburgh Steelers (39 percent)

Before Pittsburgh's Week 7 bye, McDonald set season highs in both receptions (seven) and targets (eight) for 68 yards. The Steeler tight end has now exceeded 60 receiving yards in three of four games and he has at least five targets in four of his past five. Going into Week 8, only four tight ends -- Travis Kelce (five), Zach Ertz (four), O.J. Howard (four) and George Kittle (four) -- have more 60-yard games than McDonald (three), who sat out Week 1 and has already had his bye. It's certainly possible that McDonald posts back-end TE1 numbers the rest of the way.

3. Benjamin Watson, New Orleans Saints (40 percent)

Scoring his first touchdown of the season against his former team, Watson finished Sunday's win with six catches for 43 yards and a touchdown. Except for Week 4, Watson has a minimum of three receptions in every game played this season. Drew Brees, Watson and the Saints will face the Vikings in Week 8 and Minnesota has allowed the seventh-most fantasy points to opposing tight ends this season.

4. Chris Herndon, New York Jets (1 percent)

In Week 6, Herndon had a productive outing despite a lack of targets as he turned both into receptions for a total of 56 yards and a touchdown. In Week 7, Herndon had another productive outing (4/42/1) and this time did it with greater volume (seven targets) and he nearly had a second touchdown. The fourth-round rookie is at least worth consideration in deeper league formats.

2018 Fantasy Football Projections: New York Jets

In addition to viewing our 2018 Fantasy Football Projections by position, we will post our preseason projections per team.

Below you will find our 2018 fantasy football projections for the New York Jets.

Quarterbacks

PlayerAtt.Comp.YardsTDINTRushYardsTDFLPoints
Sam Darnold442.9261.3305615.113.338.4134.43.84.5183.28
While his second preseason game was less impressive than the first, it's been a good preseason for Darnold, who remains the favorite to begin the season as the starter. As is the case with any rookie quarterback, there's bound to be many ups and downs but the Jets should find themselves playing from behind most weeks, which could lead to higher passing volume than a coaching staff would prefer to give a rookie.
Josh McCown72.946.75253.11.78.129.20.80.337.12
Before getting hurt in Week 14, McCown finished as a top-seven weekly fantasy quarterback in five of his previous seven starts. The ideal bridge quarterback, McCown appears likely to enter the season as the backup to top-three pick Sam Darnold even though he threw twice as many touchdowns (18) as interceptions (nine) last season and added five rushing scores.
Teddy Bridgewater5.23.3370.20.10.83.300.12.21

Running Backs

PlayerAtt.YardsTDRec.YardsTDFLPoints
Isaiah Crowell202.88725.516.11240.21.5130.8
Only 25 years old, Crowell signed a three-year deal in free agency with the Jets this offseason. With 850-plus rushing yards in each of the past two seasons, Crowell does not necessarily get an offensive upgrade with his new club, but I expect at least similar production in 2018.
Bilal Powell80.8347.42.426.6191.50.50.969.49
Powell carried the ball 178 times for 772 yards, both of which are career highs, but he only had five receptions in the team's final eight games. With the team signing Crowell to handle early-down touches and the team talking up Elijah McGuire, Powell's 2018 role was uncertain. The injury to McGuire, however, (re)opens the door for Powell's opportunities.
Elijah McGuire48.5203.71.224.1214.51.41.554.42
New York's RBs coach Stump Mitchell said of McGuire: "I’ll tell you who I see Eli as — and he’s in the Hall of Fame. Eli has the skill set to be a LaDainian Tomlinson if he was given that opportunity. That’s not what presents itself to him at this particular point in time. But skill set, he can do it all. He can catch. He can run. He can run routes as a receiver ..." Unfortunately, surgery on a broken foot at the end of July should sideline him a total of six weeks, putting his Week 1 status in serious doubt.

Wide Receivers

PlayerRec.YardsTDRushYardsTDFLPoints
Robby Anderson58.9871.75.62.819.60.10.4122.53
While his legal matters may now be resolved, Anderson could face league discipline from his off-field issues. In terms of on-field production, however, he had a career season (63/941/7) and was especially productive from Weeks 7 to 13. During that six-game span, Anderson had 100-plus yards and/or a touchdown every week and posted a 31/525/6 line.
Quincy Enunwa43.1633.63.20000.182.36
Enunwa led the team in receiving in 2016 (58/857/4), but he missed all of 2017 with a neck injury. There's a chance that he leads the team in receiving in 2018 if he could stay healthy.
Jermaine Kearse45.1563.83.70000.278.18
Kearse either set or tied career highs across the board with 65 catches for 810 yards and five touchdowns to finish as fantasy's WR30 (WR26 in PPR) last season. It'd be unreasonable to expect a repeat performance, but nobody expected that production from him in 2017 either.
Terrelle Pryor38.2511.92.80000.167.79
Few players were a bigger fantasy disappointment in 2017. Putting up a 1,000-yard season in his first year as a full-time receiver with a poor quarterback situation, Pryor managed just 20/240/1 when playing with Kirk Cousins last season. Pryor blames last year's disappointment on his ankle (and claims he broke it again in May), but his range of 2018 outcomes is incredibly wide.
