New England Patriots 2023 Fantasy Football Projections

Our Fantasy Football Projections will be viewable by both position and team.

Below you will find our 2023 fantasy football projections for the New England Patriots.

MORE: Fantasy football projections for more NFL teams

QUARTERBACKS

PlayerAtt.Comp.YardsTDINTRushYardsTDPoints
Mac Jones522.1343.33680.818.813.0546.3111.10.58210.92
Bailey Zappe36.324.1259.51.380.964.413.20.0415.54

Mac Jones: Jones missed some time in 2022, so his counting stats were down, but so were his efficiency numbers — 65.2% completion rate (67.6% in 2021), 3.2 TD% (4.2%), 6.8 Y/A (7.3) and 84.8 passer rating (92.5). Things should be better (than last year) with Bill O'Brien taking over the offense, but Jones' upside is relatively limited. Jones isn't draftable outside of two-QB or super flex leagues.

RUNNING BACKS

PlayerAtt.YardsTDRec.YardsTDPoints
Rhamondre Stevenson218.2992.8649.6354.61.6205.14
Kevin Harris81.5346.41.839.2690.358.92
Pierre Strong38.6167.90.7717.11300.646.56
Ty Montgomery40.8175.41.0215.4118.20.546.18

Rhamondre Stevenson: Stevenson is coming off a breakout season (1,040 rushing yards, 69 receptions for 421 yards and six total touchdowns) and could be set for an even larger role with Damien Harris (106 carries in 11 games) now in Buffalo. (The Patriots have had several high-profile free-agent veteran running backs in for visits lately, so that's something to continue to monitor.) Stevenson had multiple receptions in all but one game in 2022 and while he had single-digit carries in six of 17 games, the now-departed Harris had more carries than Stevenson in four of those six games.

WIDE RECEIVERS

PlayerRec.YardsTDRushYardsTDPoints
JuJu Smith-Schuster73.5817.64.3000144.31
Tyquan Thornton44.1581.22.94.424.20.22101.31
DeVante Parker40.4531.92.500088.39
Kendrick Bourne20.6236.41.26.642.90.2346.81
Demario Douglas7.382.70.400014.32
Kayshon Boutte2.429.60.20005.36

JuJu Smith-Schuster: Smith-Schuster had 78 catches for 933 yards and three touchdowns in his lone season with the Chiefs. It's fair to say the transition from Patrick Mahomes to Mac Jones is a significant downgrade. After all, the Chiefs averaged nearly 90 more passing yards per game (89.8) and more than doubled up the Patriots in passing touchdowns (41 to 19). That said, he's atop New England's target pecking order and could come close to repeating last year's numbers.

Tyquan Thornton: Thornton has elite speed (4.28 40-yard dash), and the second-round speedster could take a step forward as he enters his second season. Despite a whopping 14.9 ADOT (per PFF), Thornton averaged only 5.5 yards per target due to a 48.9% catch rate and 12% drop rate as a rookie.

DeVante Parker: Parker averaged 11.5 yards per target and finished with a 66% catch rate, both of which were career highs, but his final numbers (31/539/3) amounted to another year of fantasy mediocrity. The Patriots gave Parker a new "pay-as-he-produces" (incentive-laden) three-year contract, but his fantasy outlook remains about as boring as the team's general offensive outlook.

TIGHT ENDS

PlayerRec.YardsTDRushYardsTDPoints
Hunter Henry43.2478.72.800086.27
Mike Gesicki42.1482.72.800086.12
Matt Sokol2.627.60.20005.26

Hunter Henry: Henry finished last season with 41 catches for 509 yards and two touchdowns, the lowest numbers of his career when you exclude 2016 (his rookie campaign) and 2018 (missed entire season). After ranking only 25th in 12-personnel usage (one RB/two TEs) in 2022, it's expected that the Patriots will increase their usage of 12 personnel significantly in 2023.

Mike Gesicki: Like Henry, Gesicki is coming off non-rookie lows in receptions (32), targets (52) and yards (362). The uber-athletic tight end will get an opportunity to reset in an offense that should be more likely to fully utilize his skill set.

New York Jets 2019 Fantasy Football Projections

In addition to viewing our 2019 Fantasy Football Projections by position, we will post our preseason projections per team.

Below you will find our 2019 fantasy football projections for the New York Jets.

QUARTERBACKS

PlayerAtt.Comp.YardsTDINTRushYardsTDPoints
Sam Darnold564349.74004.423.9715.5148.8156.21.1247.26
Even if there were some (expected) ups and downs as a rookie, Darnold ended 2018 on a positive note. Throwing six touchdowns to only one interception over his final four games, the (recently-turned) 22-year-old should build upon his late-season success with improved weapons in 2019.

RUNNING BACKS

PlayerAtt.YardsTDRec.YardsTDPoints
Le'Veon Bell261.710737.8565.5517.52.46220.91
Returning to the field after sitting out 2018, Bell trades the high-powered Steelers offense for an improving-yet-not-as-potent Jets offense. In addition, Football Outsiders ranked the Jets offensive line 32nd (i.e., last) in run blocking (Adjusted Line Yards) in 2018. Even though he averaged only 4.0 yards per carry in 2017, Bell had a career-high 406 touches, 1,946 scrimmage yards and 11 touchdowns in his most recent season. Bell is ranked as a RB1 in my rankings, but he isn't a lock for a top-five fantasy finish like he once was.

WIDE RECEIVERS

PlayerRec.YardsTDRushYardsTDPoints
Robby Anderson64.6952.96.781.77.70.02136.86
Anderson's numbers were down year-over-year, but he finished strong when Sam Darnold returned from a foot injury. Over the final four games of the season, Anderson had 23 catches for 336 yards and three touchdowns. During that span, Anderson was the WR5 (WR6 in PPR). With improvement and more consistency from Darnold, Anderson has the potential to vastly exceed his current ADP and is one of my favorite targets as a third receiver.
Jamison Crowder63.8797.53.192.19.50.0299.96
Not only did he miss roughly half the season, but Crowder set a career low in receptions per game (3.2) and his 43.1 YPG was his lowest since his rookie season. A return to his 2016/2017 numbers -- 60-plus catches and 750-plus yards -- seems reasonable if he can stay healthy.
Quincy Enunwa52.56512.63150.0181.44
A high-ankle sprain sustained in mid-October killed his early-season momentum, but Enunwa showed good rapport with Sam Darnold to start the year. Enunwa had at least eight targets, four receptions and 57 yards in four straight games to kick off the season.

Chris Herndon45.5577.94.100082.39
Fantasy's TE6 (TE7 in PPR) from Weeks 6 to 16, Herndon ranked 10th in receptions (33), fifth in yards (447) and fourth in touchdowns (four) among tight ends during that span. Herndon could face a two-game suspension for pleading guilty to DWI charges, but he's an excellent streaming option when active.

2018 Fantasy Football RB Waiver-Wire Options Heading Into Week 4

Every week, we examine players that may be available on your league's waiver wire that could help your team in the short and/or long term.

For a player to be listed, he must be owned in 50 percent (or less) of Yahoo! leagues. The goal is to provide recommendations of players that have a greater chance of being available on your league's waiver wire. Of course, your league's size and settings could significantly impact whether these players (or better options) are available in your particular league(s).

Embed from Getty Images

With that said, here are some running back waiver-wire options that I like heading into Week 4 (Yahoo! ownership in parenthesis):

[Note: Players listed below are sorted by my preference to add.]

1. Javorius Allen, Baltimore Ravens (26 percent)

Going into Week 3, Alex Collins and Allen had an identical 20 touches. Collins (21 touches) dominated the Week 3 workload, but Allen (nine touches) extended his touchdown streak to three games and now has four scores on the season. With 13 receptions through three games, Allen is better in PPR formats and has finished as a top-20 weekly PPR back in each of the first three weeks of the season.

2. Chris Ivory, Buffalo Bills (six percent)

It was a surprising outcome for the Bills as they handedly beat the Vikings at home this week. Given the favorable game script, Ivory had 20 carries for 56 yards and added three catches for 70 yards on four targets. We shouldn't count on 55-yard receptions from Ivory, but if LeSean McCoy (ribs) misses another game, Ivory could become a volume-based flex play.

3. Theo Riddick, Detroit Lions (29 percent)

Rookie Kerryon Johnson just ended the Lions 100-yard rushing drought, but Riddick has failed to get a carry in either of the previous two games. That said, he gets plenty of opportunities as a receiver. Through three weeks, he has 17 receptions for 98 yards on 22 targets, the sixth-most amongst running backs heading into Monday Night Football. Riddick should be owned in all leagues with full PPR scoring settings.

4. Ty Montgomery, Green Bay Packers (16 percent)

Part of a three-back committee with Jamaal Williams and Aaron Jones, who returned from suspension in Week 3, Montgomery led the group with 10 touches -- six receptions and four carries -- for 64 yards. Montgomery has seen his touches increase each week although he's more of a deep league option for now.

5. Wendell Smallwood, Philadelphia Eagles (one percent)

With Jay Ajayi and Darren Sproles both out, it was Corey Clement (19 touches) and Smallwood (13) splitting the workload against the Colts. While he got fewer touches, Smallwood (91) had more scrimmage yards than Clement (75) and he was the one to score the touchdown. If both Ajayi and Sproles miss another game, Smallwood could be a useful fantasy asset in Week 4.

2018 Fantasy Football Projections: Green Bay Packers

In addition to viewing our 2018 Fantasy Football Projections by position, we will post our preseason projections per team.

Below you will find our 2018 fantasy football projections for the Green Bay Packers.

Quarterbacks

PlayerAtt.Comp.YardsTDINTRushYardsTDFLPoints
Aaron Rodgers567.3368.7408534.69.650.7263.62.22.4317.36
Since becoming the starter in 2008, Rodgers has missed roughly a half-season twice (2013 and 2017). In the other eight seasons, he has finished as either the QB1 or QB2 in fantasy football seven times. Assuming good health, Rodgers is a virtual lock for a top-two season. The only concern with Rodgers or any quarterback selected early is the lost opportunity to acquire an impact player at a position of greater scarcity/value. Outside of 2-QB or deep leagues, I'm unlikely to draft Rodgers before another owner.

Running Backs

PlayerAtt.YardsTDRec.YardsTDFLPoints
Jamaal Williams174.3723.35.922.1174.61.50.2133.79
Due to other injuries at running back, only three running backs had more carries than Williams (122) from Week 10 on -- Melvin Gordon (137), Frank Gore (134) and LeSean McCoy (130). That said, Williams averaged only 3.6 yards per carry as a rookie. With Aaron Jones suspended the first two games and Ty Montgomery dealing with a foot injury, Williams will have a chance to pick up where he left off.
Ty Montgomery76.2335.3338.3314.11.50.291.54
Before sustaining a Week 4 ribs injury, Montgomery had 59 touches (41 carries and 18 receptions), which was tied for eighth-most over the first three games of the season. Missing half of last season, Montgomery could be used more as a "hybrid player" in 2018, but it also wouldn't be a surprise if he were to get a much larger workload than I currently project.
Aaron Jones97.6444.13.316.6112.90.30.276.9
Jones had a pair of 100-yard games with touchdowns from Weeks 5 to 7 and averaged almost two more yards per carry than Williams (5.5 to 3.6) last season. Unfortunately he'll begin the season serving a two-game suspension, which could allow Williams to potentially run away with the lead-back role.

With double-digit touchdowns in back-to-back seasons, Adams has produced 149/1,882/22 over the past two years. With Jordy Nelson now in Oakland, Adams will have an opportunity to improve upon his top-12 (or 14th in PPR) 2017 performance as the No. 1 receiver for Aaron Rodgers.
Randall Cobb73.5771.86.610.741.70.10.1121.35
Since exceeding 800-plus yards in his three healthy seasons from 2012 to 2015, Cobb has 600-something yards in back-to-back seasons. Given a secure WR2 role (minus some late-August trade rumors), however, Cobb should bounce back provided that he and Rodgers can stay healthy.

Jamaal Williams154.4602.24.920.91631.50.2114.52
With both Ty Montgomery and Aaron Jones missing time, only three running backs had more carries than Williams (122) from Week 10 on -- Melvin Gordon (137), Frank Gore (134) and LeSean McCoy (130). That said, Williams averaged only 3.6 yards per carry as a rookie and the workload allocation for the team's top-three backs could be fluid throughout the season. A two-game suspension of Aaron Jones to start the season helps Williams' case.
Ty Montgomery66.2291.32.640.2329.61.60.286.89
Missing half of last season, Montgomery could be used more as a "hybrid player" in 2018.
Aaron Jones108.3492.83.817115.60.30.285.04
Jones had a pair of 100-yard games with touchdowns from Weeks 5 to 7 and averaged almost two more yards per carry than Williams (5.5 to 3.6) last season. Unfortunately he'll begin the season serving a two-game suspension, but Jones could have the opportunity to emerge as the primary back over the course of the season.

Davante Adams77.6977.89.20000.3152.38
With double-digit touchdowns in back-to-back seasons, Adams has a total of 149/1,882/22 over the past two years. With Jordy Nelson released (and now in Oakland), Adams will have an opportunity to improve upon his top-12 (or 14th in PPR) 2017 production.
Randall Cobb70.8729.25.911.243.70.10.1113.09
Since exceeding 800-plus yards in his three healthy seasons from 2012 to 2015, Cobb has 600-something yards in back-to-back seasons. His 43.5 yards per game and 9.9 yards per catch were either the lowest of his career or since his rookie season. Given a secure WR2 role, Cobb could bounce back provided that he and Rodgers can stay healthy.

Even though Graham posted his lowest yardage total (520) since his rookie season and averaged a career-low 9.1 Y/R, the veteran tight end scored 10 touchdowns last season. Playing in the high-powered Packers offense, double-digit touchdowns is possible if Aaron Rodgers can stay healthy all season.

2018 Fantasy Football Projections: Green Bay Packers

In addition to viewing our 2018 Fantasy Football Projections by position, we will post our preseason projections per team.

Below you will find our 2018 fantasy football projections for the Green Bay Packers.

Quarterbacks

Aaron Rodgers569.3370409935.39.550.1270.52.32.5322.01
Since becoming the starter in 2008, Rodgers has missed roughly a half-season twice (2013 and 2017). In the other eight seasons, he has finished as either the QB1 or QB2 in fantasy football seven times. Assuming good health, Rodgers is a virtual lock for a top-two season. The only concern with Rodgers or any quarterback selected early is the lost opportunity to acquire an impact player at a position of greater scarcity/value.
