Seattle Seahawks 2023 Fantasy Football Projections

Geno Smith: Vastly outperforming his 2022 ADP, Smith led the NFL in completion percentage (69.8%) while throwing for 4,282 yards, 30 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. A repeat top-five fantasy finish may be unlikely, but Smith is a viable QB1 type, especially with the Seahawks drafting Jaxon Smith-Njigba in the first round to complement their dynamic duo of D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett. So, in other words, he's undervalued compared his ADP once again.

Kenneth Walker III: Walker rushed for 1,050 yards and nine touchdowns on 228 carries as a rookie. Expectations shot up following (Rashaad Penny's departure in) NFL free agency, but the Seahawks drafting a talented complement (Zach Charbonnet) in the second round should temper expectations. Walker finished 2022 as fantasy's RB16 in half-PPR scoring, and a similar level of production is most likely in 2023. Walker had been dealing with a groin injury, but he's returned to practicing in full.

Zach Charbonnet: The second-round pick was highly productive for the UCLA Bruins, and he has the skill set to be a foundation back. Unfortunately, Seattle is not an ideal landing spot for his 2023 fantasy outlook with Charbonnet expected to operate as the 1B to Walker's 1A in Seattle's ground attack. Given how much Pete Carroll would prefer to run the ball, however, there is a chance that he could approach stand-alone flex-level value even if Walker stays healthy for a full season.

D.K. Metcalf: Metcalf has a minimum of 900 receiving yards in all four of his NFL seasons. While he finished with only six touchdowns (despite ranking third in the NFL in red zone targets) last season, he had a combined 22 scores in the previous two seasons and he set career highs in targets (141) and receptions (90) in 2022.

Tyler Lockett: Lockett has exceeded 1,000 receiving yards in four consecutive seasons, and he has scored eight or more touchdowns in five consecutive seasons. Consistently outperforming his preseason ADP, Lockett has finished as fantasy's WR13 (2022), WR13 (2021), WR9 (2020), WR14 (2019) and WR15 (2018), respectively. While the team drafted Jaxon Smith-Njigba in the first round, it's likely that Lockett continues to exceed expectations.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba: While he lacks elite straight-line speed, Smith-Njigba posted combine-best performances in both the 3-cone (6.57 seconds) and 20-yard shuttle (3.93), and he's a polished route runner with outstanding ball skills and body control. He set the Big Ten receiving record in 2021 (1,606 yards) while playing alongside Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson, and ESPN's Dan Graziano has referred to him as a "legitimate sleeper candidate for Offensive Rookie of the Year." After undergoing wrist surgery, JSN returned to practice sooner than expected and now seems likely for Week 1.

Noah Fant: In his first season as a Seahawk, Fant finished the year with 50 catches for 486 yards and four touchdowns. It was his third-consecutive season with 50-plus catches and he tied a career high in touchdowns, but he set career lows in yards and yards per reception (9.7). Adding first-round rookie receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba could make it challenging for Fant and the team's tight ends to have fantasy-viable production.

Geno Smith: With Russell Wilson now in Denver, it will be Geno Smith that opens the season as the starter against Wilson and the Broncos in Week 1. That said, it's highly likely that both Smith and Drew Lock make starts throughout the season. In two seasons with the Seahawks, Smith has completed 69-of-100 pass attempts for 735 yards (7.35 Y/A), five touchdowns and one interception.

Rashaad Penny: Penny was a surprise first-round pick in 2018. Partly due to his durability issues, the former San Diego State Aztec has only 280 rush attempts over four seasons. Despite the limited workload, Penny has been productive and efficient with 1,580 rushing yards (5.6 YPC) and 11 touchdowns on those 280 carries. Fantasy managers got a glimpse of how productive a healthy Penny can be down the stretch last season. Over the final five weeks of 2021, Penny posted a 92/671/6 (7.3 YPC) rushing line and led all running backs in fantasy points (half-PPR) per game (21.54). In addition, Penny has eclipsed the 100-yard rushing mark in six of seven career games with at least 12 carries.

Kenneth Walker III: Walker has enormous upside ... but probably not until 2023. The former Spartan (and Demon Deacon) has been used sparingly in college as a receiver, but he's arguably the best pure rusher in the 2022 draft class given his powerful compact frame, contact balance and ability to break tackles. Walker would be catapulted into heavy workloads if Penny is unable to stay healthy.

D.K. Metcalf: The obvious concern with Metcalf (and the passing game overall) is that Russell Wilson is now in Denver. Still only 24 years old, the physically-imposing wideout enters his fourth season with three consecutive 900-yard campaigns. While his yards per reception (12.9) and yards per target (7.5) were both career lows, he set a career high with 12 touchdowns and has now scored double-digit touchdowns in back-to-back seasons.

Tyler Lockett: Including his rushing yardage, Lockett has exceeded the 1,000-yard mark and scored at least eight touchdowns in four consecutive seasons. Given the team's run-first philosophy, there has been some up-and-down weekly output from Lockett despite his full-season consistency even with Russell Wilson under center. Add in the QB downgrade(s) with Geno Smith (and Drew Lock), it's likely that we see more week-to-week volatility from Lockett.

Geno Smith: After trading away Russell Wilson, who will be Seattle's starter in 2022: Drew Lock or Geno Smith? Fantasy Football Projections 2021: Denver Broncos

Teddy Bridgewater: The QB competition between Drew Lock and Bridgewater is over when it comes to determining the Week 1 starter (Bridgewater), but it's possible that both make starts in 2021. While his upside is low, Bridgewater will provide steadier quarterback play for a team that has a strong roster overall and will compete for the playoffs. He finished as fantasy's QB19 with Carolina in 2020.

Drew Lock: Lock will enter 2021 as the backup, but as noted above, could certainly make a start or two in 2021. Lock completed just 57.3% of 2020 pass attempts and tied Carson Wentz for a league-high 15 interceptions thrown.

Javonte Williams: Even though he was the third back off the board in the 2021 NFL Draft, some teams viewed Williams as "best back in the draft." With the Broncos trading up to get in front of the Dolphins to select Williams, it's likely that he emerges as the team's lead back sooner rather than later. The 20-year-old back is a tackle-breaking machine.

Melvin Gordon: Gordon closed last season (Weeks 11-17) with elite volume (120 touches, seventh-most), which allowed MG3 to rank seventh in yards from scrimmage (618) and ninth in half-PPR scoring during that stretch. Regardless of how the workload allocation starts, it's likely that there will be a shift from the veteran to the rookie as the season progresses.

Jerry Jeudy: Considering Courtland Sutton (ACL) missing nearly all of 2020, Jeudy underwhelmed as a rookie. A 46.0% catch rate prevented him from capitalizing on a 31.46% share of his team's air yards. Inconsistent quarterback play contributed to the lack of production and all signs point to the potential for a breakout in year two, especially with the Broncos naming Teddy Bridgewater as their starting QB.

Courtland Sutton: Sutton had a breakout season in 2019 -- 72 catches for 1,112 yards and six touchdowns -- but missed nearly all of 2020 with a torn ACL. The choice of Bridgewater over Drew Lock more than likely benefits Jeudy more than Sutton.

K.J. Hamler: Hamler has blazing speed, but he's unlikely to carve out a fantasy-relevant second season with Sutton, Jeudy and Fant (at least) all ahead of him in the targets pecking order.

Tim Patrick: Patrick was productive last season with a career-best 51/742/6 line. While he may once again outproduce expectations, it's also possible that he ranks fourth in WR snaps behind Sutton, Jeudy and Hamler.

Noah Fant: Playing at less than 100% in 2020, Fant averaged only 10.9 Y/R after averaging 14.1 in 2019. Fant's ADOT (7.6 to 6.7) and YAC/R (8.3 to 6.1) both declined year over year, but he also set career highs in receptions (62) and yards (673). Fant has been dealing with a "leg issue" that isn't believed to be serious or keep him out Week 1.

Jerry Jeudy: Despite Courtland Sutton (ACL) missing nearly all of 2020, Jeudy underwhelmed as a rookie. A 46.0% catch rate prevented him from capitalizing on a 31.46% share of his team's air yards. Inconsistent quarterback play contributed to the lack of production and all signs point to the potential for a breakout in year two, especially with the Broncos naming Bridgewater as their starting QB.

K.J. Hamler: Hamler has blazing speed, but he's unlikely to carve out a fantasy-relevant second season with Sutton, Jeudy and Fant (at least) all ahead of him in the targets pecking order.

Noah Fant: Playing at less than 100% in 2020, Fant averaged only 10.9 Y/R after averaging 14.1 in 2019. Fant's ADOT (7.6 to 6.7) and YAC/R (8.3 to 6.1) both declined year over year, but he also set career highs in receptions (62) and yards (673). Fant is currently dealing with a "leg issue" that isn't believed to be serious or keep him out Week 1.

Drew Lock: The Aaron Rodgers (to Denver) speculation was at a fever pitch earlier this offseason and perhaps the Broncos will make a move to trade for Deshaun Watson. For now, however, it's a battle between Lock and newcomer Teddy Bridgewater and there appears to be "no separation" between the duo so far. If Lock opens the season as the starter, it's no (ahem) lock that he keeps the job. Not only did Lock complete just 57.3% of his pass attempts, but he tied Carson Wentz for a league-high 15 interceptions thrown in 2020.

Teddy Bridgewater: As noted above, the QB competition between Lock and Bridgewater is tight and both will most likely make starts in 2021. Even if Bridgewater wins the starting gig to enter the season, he is a low-upside option.

Javonte Williams: Even though he was the third back off the board, some teams viewed Williams as "best back in the draft." With the Broncos moving up to get in front of the Dolphins to select Williams, it's likely that he emerges as the team's lead back sooner rather than later. In fact, it wouldn't surprise me if the Broncos parted ways (via trade or release) before final roster cuts. The 20-year-old back is a tackle-breaking machine.

Courtland Sutton: Sutton had a breakout season in 2019 -- 72 catches for 1,112 yards and six touchdowns -- but missed nearly all of 2020 with a torn ACL. While Sutton is our top-ranked Broncos fantasy wide receiver, it's more of a 1(a)/1(b) situation with Jerry Jeudy and both are viable WR3 types heading into 2021. A low level of quarterback play could hold both back, however.

Jerry Jeudy: Jeudy had his moments, but it was generally an underwhelming rookie season given the Week 1 season-ending injury to Courtland Sutton. Per NextGen Stats, Jeudy's 31.46% share of his team's air yards ranked 14th in 2020. That said, he had a 46.0% catch rate on the year.

K.J. Hamler: Hamler has blazing speed, but he's unlikely to carve out a fantasy-relevant second season with Sutton, Jeudy and Fant (at least) all ahead of him in the targets pecking order.

Week 10 Fantasy Football TE Start'em, Sit'em

The decision on which player to start, or sit, largely comes down to the options on your roster (and/or possibly the players available on your league's waiver wire).

As an example, Eric Ebron is listed below as a "start" for Week 10. And I'd certainly be comfortable going into Week 10 with him as my starting tight end.

Then again, Ebron may be a "sit" for your team.

In other words, if you own both Darren Waller and Ebron, you should start Waller and, in turn, bench Ebron.

For a more direct answer on whether we would start Player X over Player Y, check our Week 10 Fantasy Football Rankings. Instead of making those direct comparisons, the goal here is to highlight players that we like, or dislike, for the week.

Week 10 Fantasy Football TE Start'em

Austin Hooper, Cleveland Browns (vs. HOU)

While Hooper (appendicitis) missed a couple of games before the team's Week 9 bye, the Browns tight ends have scored the eighth-most fantasy points and received the ninth-most targets this season. Hooper himself was getting a larger share of targets before being sidelined. With exactly five receptions per game from Weeks 4 to 6, Hooper had a total of 23 targets and at least a 22.22% target share in each of those three weeks.

Since then, the Browns have lost Odell Beckham for the season and Jarvis Landry has been battling his own share of injuries. In a top-10 fantasy matchup against the Houston Texans, it would be reasonable for Hooper to get six or more targets in his first game back from injury.

Noah Fant, Denver Broncos (at LV)

Fant has a minimum of 35 yards in every game this season and last week (three targets) was the only game he played with fewer than five targets. If it weren't for his first-quarter ankle injury last week, he would have had a much more productive outing even though he returned to the game. Over seven games this season, Fant has 32 catches for 349 yards and two touchdowns on 46 targets.

Eric Ebron, Pittsburgh Steelers (vs. CIN)

Ebron has the most favorable remaining fantasy football strength of schedule and he gets one of the best matchups this weekend. Only the Atlanta Falcons have allowed more fantasy points per game to opposing tight ends this season than the Cincinnati Bengals. Over their past four games, the Bengals have allowed three top-three weekly finishers -- Mark Andrews (TE3, Week 5), Trey Burton (TE3, Week 6) and Harrison Bryant (TE1, Week 7). Ebron has scored in back-to-back games and only the Falcons (eight) and Jaguars (seven) have allowed more TD receptions to the position than the Bengals (six).

Week 10 Fantasy Football TE Sit'em

Tyler Higbee, Los Angeles Rams (vs. SEA)

If you drafted Higbee, you certainly have buyer's remorse. Aside from a three-TD Week 2 explosion, Higbee scored a maximum of 7.1 fantasy points (half-PPR scoring) in his other six games this season. In fact, if I were forced to start a Rams tight end this week, it would Gerald Everett -- not Higbee. Over the past four games, Everett has 16 catches for 177 yards and a touchdown on 22 targets.

Mike Gesicki, Miami Dolphins (vs. LAC)

A freakish athlete for the position, Gesicki was one of my favorite targets in summer fantasy drafts. Unfortunately, the third-year tight end has underwhelmed recently. Over his past three games, Gesicki has a total of four catches and 50 scoreless yards on eight targets and has finished as the weekly TE46, TE36 and TE23, respectively. While the talent is there for him to perform as a top-12 tight end, I have him ranked just outside my top 12 this week. The Chargers have limited opposing tight ends to the ninth-fewest fantasy points this season.

Greg Olsen, Seattle Seahawks (at LAR)

In the first four games of the season, Olsen had at least four catches in three games. Since then, however, Olsen has a total of five catches for 51 scoreless yards over the next four games. Over the past three weeks, it's been a different Seahawks tight end to lead the position group in targets -- Will Dissly (four, Week 7), Greg Olsen (four, Week 8) and Jacob Hollister (seven, Week 9).
