Fantasy Football Projections 2021: Dallas Cowboys

Our 2021 Fantasy Football Projections will be viewable by both position and team.

Below you will find our 2021 fantasy football projections for the Dallas Cowboys.

Note: These projections are based on a 17-game NFL schedule, which is expected in 2021.

Cooper Rush39.224.3266.61.410.92.77.40.0115.3

Dak Prescott: From Weeks 2 to 4 last season, Prescott threw for a minimum (yes, minimum) of 450 yards in three consecutive games with a total of 11 touchdowns (eight passing and three rushing). As noted in our Dak Prescott 2021 Fantasy Football Profile, Prescott (three) had more 450-yard passing games than the rest of the league combined (two) in 2020. During that three-game stretch before getting injured, Prescott performed as the weekly QB1, QB4 and QB1, respectively. With a talented trio of wide receivers, Prescott has tremendous upside if he can stay healthy.

RUNNING BACKS

Tony Pollard88.5393.83.0130.1226.61.3102.95
Corey Clement7.430.70.152.623.20.18.19

Ezekiel Elliott: The offense went off the tracks when Dak Prescott sustained his season-ending injury and the offensive line injuries further impacted Elliott's production. From Weeks 6 to 17, Zeke finished as a top-12 fantasy running only twice in 10 games after doing so three times in the team's first five games. Even if Tony Pollard earns a few more touches in 2021, Elliott should rank near the top of the league in workload. In fact, only three backs had more than six games last season with at least 20 touches -- Derrick Henry (14), Dalvin Cook (11) and Elliott (11).

Tony Pollard: Even though he played fewer than 50% of the team's offensive snaps in all but one game (Week 15, 90%), Pollard had at least eight touches in 10 of the team's final 12 games. Assuming good health for Dak Prescott and the offensive line, 8-10 weekly touches in this offense could lead to stand-alone flex value for Pollard on a weekly basis. If Elliott went down with an injury, Pollard would be a top-10 play each week that Zeke missed.

WIDE RECEIVERS

Simi Fehoko5.877.20.600014.22

Amari Cooper: Cooper finished 2020 with a career-high 92 receptions for 1,114 yards and five touchdowns. It was his third consecutive 1,000-yard season and fifth of his career. In 41 games as a member of the Cowboys, Cooper has averaged 73.9 yards per game.

CeeDee Lamb: With a healthy Dak Prescott, Lamb began his NFL career with two 100-yard games and a minimum of 59 yards in each of his first five games. During that five-game span, Lamb scored the 11th-most fantasy points (Amari Cooper was 12th) and only five other receivers had more receiving yards (433). Based on his skill set, Lamb should eventually emerge as the 1(a) for the Cowboys to Cooper's 1(b) with Fantasy Football ADP suggesting that will happen this season.

MORE: CeeDee Lamb 2021 Fantasy Football Outlook

Michael Gallup: It was a down year (59/843/5) for Gallup, who averaged 26.4 fewer yards per game than he did in 2019. Of course, the offense as a whole struggled without Dak Prescott and Gallup had 50-plus yards in four of five games with Prescott and in only three-of-11 games without him.

Dalton Schultz35.7357.91.900065.04
Sean McKeon0.97.700001.22

Blake Jarwin: With the Cowboys moving on from Jason Witten before the start of the 2020 season, Jarwin was expected to see a big jump in target share and production, but he unfortunately tore his ACL in Week 1. As a part-time player in 2018 and 2019, Jarwin had a total of 77 catches for 672 yards and six touchdowns.

Dalton Schultz: Taking on a much larger-than-expected role given Jarwin's ACL tear, Schultz had 63 catches for 615 yards and four touchdowns. The former Stanford Cardinal finished the year as fantasy's TE12 (half-PPR) and was a little better in full PPR formats (TE10) and a little worse in non-PPR formats (TE15). If Jarwin can stay healthy, however, Schultz will return to a secondary role.

PlayerAtt.Comp.YardsTDINTRushYardsTDPoints
Dak Prescott574.6379.24539.328.1610.3450.6260.63.16318.55
Shattering previous career highs as a passer, Prescott threw for 4,902 yards and 30 touchdowns and only Lamar Jackson scored more fantasy points in 2019. With CeeDee Lamb slipping to Dallas in the draft, the trio of Amari Cooper, Michael Gallup and Lamb give Prescott one of the league's best trio of pass-catchers. Dak's rushing ability -- 277-plus rushing yards every year and 21 scores in four seasons -- raises his fantasy floor.
Andy Dalton11.77.283.70.540.284.413.40.247.73

RUNNING BACKS

PlayerAtt.YardsTDRec.YardsTDPoints
Ezekiel Elliott290.41306.89.4454.64152.32242.74
A little less involved as a receiver in 2019 (54/420/2) than 2018 (77/567/3), Elliott has exceeded 300 carries every year except for his 10-game 2017 season and he's led the NFL in rushing yards per game in three of four seasons. Guaranteed for a massive workload behind one of the league's top offensive lines and in one of the league's most prolific offenses, Elliott is a slam-dunk top-three pick in 2020.
Tony Pollard88448.82.222178.21.2183.16
Based on his talent, Pollard probably deserves more snaps and touches than he got as a rookie, but he's purely a handcuff to Elliott. Pollard, who averaged 5.29 yards per carry as a rookie, got double-digit carries in only four games where the Cowboys' average margin of victory was 24.25 points. If Elliott were to miss any time, however, Pollard would become a must-start.
Rico Dowdle4.418.30.080002.31

WIDE RECEIVERS

PlayerRec.YardsTDRushYardsTDPoints
Amari Cooper73.41053.37.341.14.20.01149.85
In his first full season with the Cowboys, Cooper had 79 catches and set career highs in receiving yards (1,189) and touchdowns (eight). Adding CeeDee Lamb to the receiver room with Cooper and Michael Gallup gives the team the league's most-talented wide receiver trio, but at the same time, the net effect will likely be a few less targets for Cooper in 2020. In addition, fantasy owners may be even more frustrated by the boom-or-bust nature to Cooper's game logs in 2020.
Michael Gallup59.7931.34.78000121.81
It was a breakout sophomore campaign for Gallup, who (more than) doubled his production across the board with 66 catches for 1,107 yards and six touchdowns in 2019. From a talent standpoint, Gallup may be the team's third-best receiver behind Cooper and rookie CeeDee Lamb, but both Randall Cobb and Jason Witten are gone. (Then again, Mike McCarthy said that "Gallup is a No. 1 WR in my view.") The addition of Lamb makes it less likely Gallup builds upon or even duplicates last year's numbers, but he's still a viable WR3 in fantasy.
CeeDee Lamb59.6819.55.361.16.10.01114.78
While he was the third receiver drafted (after Henry Ruggs III and Jerry Jeudy), many believed that Lamb was the most talented in a wide receiver class that was viewed as one of the best ever. With exceptional ball skills and run-after-catch ability, Lamb has the potential to develop into the Cowboys No. 1 receiver as early as 2021. For 2020, however, he's likely to finish behind both Cooper and Gallup in fantasy production.

Dak's rushing ability -- 277-plus rushing yards every year and 21 scores in four seasons -- raises his fantasy floor.

Tony Pollard88448.82.220.9169.31.1581.91
Based on his talent, Pollard probably deserves more snaps and touches than he got as a rookie, but he's purely a handcuff to Elliott. Pollard, who averaged 5.29 yards per carry as a rookie, got double-digit carries in only four games where the Cowboys' average margin of victory was 24.25 points. If Elliott were to miss any time, however, Pollard would become a must-start.

WIDE RECEIVERS

PlayerRec.YardsTDRushYardsTDPoints
Amari Cooper72.41038.97.241.14.20.01147.81
With exceptional ball skills and his abilities after the catch, Lamb has the potential to develop into the Cowboys No. 1 receiver as early as 2021. For 2020, however, he's likely to finish behind both Cooper and Gallup in fantasy production.

Jarwin should see a significant jump in playing time and targets with Jason Witten (and his 83 targets) now in Vegas. Over his past two seasons combined, Jarwin has turned his 77 targets into 58 catches for 672 yards (11.6 Y/R) and six touchdowns.

Dak Prescott509.1338.63792.823.169.1669320.95288.12
The next time that Prescott finishes outside the top-12 fantasy quarterbacks will be his first. And based on my rankings, that won't be this year. Through his first three NFL seasons, Prescott has finished as fantasy's QB6, QB11 and QB10, respectively.

In the team's run-first offense, Prescott threw it 526 times in 2018 for 3,885 yards, both of which were career highs, and the presence of Amari Cooper gives Prescott a legitimate weapon in the passing game. Consistent with 22 or 23 passing touchdowns each season, Prescott has rushed for exactly six scores each season and 944 rushing yards over his three seasons.

Ezekiel Elliott3071396.99.5264.9532.22.6265.63
Not only does he have two rushing titles in his three NFL seasons, but Elliott has actually led the NFL in rushing yards per game every year that he's been in the league. His passing-game role expanded greatly in 2018 as he converted his 95 targets into 77 receptions for 567 yards and three touchdowns, all of which were career highs. With the Vegas incident now behind him in terms of potential league discipline, the workhorse back is a threat for a 2,000/10 YFS/TD season. Elliott's 16-game average has been 2,099 YFS and 13.6 TDs over his 40 NFL games.

WIDE RECEIVERS

PlayerRec.YardsTDRushYardsTDPoints
Amari Cooper80.91104.38.091.16.10159.58
The midseason trade for Cooper was mutually beneficial for the team and player. In his 11 games (counting the postseason) with the Cowboys, Cooper racked up 66 catches for 896 yards and seven touchdowns. Only six receivers scored more fantasy points than Cooper from Weeks 9 to 17 -- he was the WR9 in PPR formats. Cooper enters his age-25 season with three 1,000-yard campaigns already under his belt and is shooting for (an unrealistic and record-breaking) 2,000 yards in 2019.
Michael Gallup44.2674.13.200086.61
Making some big plays down the stretch, Gallup's best game came in the team's playoff loss to the Rams with six catches for 119 yards. While the offense most likely won't support two fantasy-viable wide receivers in standard-sized leagues, Gallup should build upon his late-season rookie success for a year-over-year improvement in production.
Randall Cobb43.1435.32.162.311.5057.64
Over the past three seasons, Cobb has missed a total of 10 games and averaged 54.7/548.7/3.3 per year. As the WR3 on such a run-heavy team, Cobb would do well to exceed his three-year average.

Jason Witten44.1383.73.3100058.23
Coming out of retirement in large part to help mentor the team's young tight ends, Witten is a low-upside safety blanket for Prescott, who says that Witten has "gotten better, stronger and faster." In his season before retiring, Witten had 63 catches for 560 yards and five touchdowns, which could be a best-case scenario for the 37-year-old tight end although I have him projected for less.
Blake Jarwin23257.62.0700038.18
The majority of Jarwin's production came in his final four games (20/228/3) with seven-plus targets in three of those games. Witten's unretirement limits Jarwin's likehilood to continue his late-season momentum into 2019.

Through his first two NFL seasons, Prescott has finished as fantasy's QB6 and QB9, respectively. Even though Prescott and Dez Bryant never seemed to get on the same page, the Dez-less Cowboys seriously lack talent amongst their group of pass-catchers. Rushing for 12 touchdowns in two seasons, Prescott's dual-threat abilities help to raise his floor, but it's likely he finishes outside the top-10 fantasy quarterbacks for the first time in his young career.

Ezekiel Elliott308.11340.29.641.8422.22.51246.84
The 2016 rushing champion, Elliott served a six-game suspension in 2017 but led the league in rushing yards per game (98.3) with a larger workload (24.2 carries per game). With limited weapons in the passing game, Zeke and the Cowboys will face many eight-men fronts, but the former Buckeye should get north of 300 carries with a chance for another rushing title.

Wide Receivers

PlayerRec.YardsTDRushYardsTDFLPoints
Allen Hurns52.7695.65.30000.1101.16
Two years removed from a 1,031/10 season, Hurns has missed five-plus games in each of the past two seasons with a total of 961 yards and five touchdowns combined over that stretch. While a return to 2015 numbers is unlikely, Hurns should be able to set three-year highs if he's able to stay healthy and could be the most productive of the Cowboys wide receivers.
Michael Gallup47.2604.24.70000.388.02
Even though the Cowboys waited until the third round to select Gallup, it's possible that the PFF favorite leads all rookie wide receivers in production given the team's lack of playmakers.
Cole Beasley52.4513.54.20000.375.95
With future HOFer Jason Witten hanging up his cleats, there should be more targets heading the slot receiver's way. In Dak Prescott's rookie season, Beasley had a 75/833/5 line. At a minimum, I'd expect him to post better numbers than last season's 36/314/4.
Terrance Williams36.5551.23.10000.373.12
Dak Prescott should spread the ball around enough that none of the team's receivers will finish as a top-36 fantasy option. While Williams could lead the team in receiving, I expect a bunch of the team's receivers to finish in the range of 400 to 600 yards as mostly uninspiring fantasy options for 2018.
Tavon Austin221871.541.7271.12.12.563.61
For the most part, Austin has underperformed compared to his lofty draft status (eighth-overall pick in 2013). Back in 2015, Austin had 907 yards from scrimmage (473 receiving and 434 rushing), 52 receptions and 10 total touchdowns including one return score. A return to that level of production is highly unlikely, but perhaps he approaches his second-best season (2016, 668 YFS on 86 touches).
