Chicago Bears Fantasy Football Projections 2022

Justin Fields: Perhaps the best thing we can say about Fields' rookie season is that he gets to reset in Year 2 and the new coaching staff should put Fields in more situations that play to his strengths. Starting 10 games as a rookie, Fields ran more over his final five starts and finished as a top-10 weekly quarterback in four of those five starts. A weak supporting cast (offensive line and pass catchers) remains a concern that could impact his growth, but Fields has top-10 upside.

David Montgomery: Montgomery was sidelined from Weeks 5 to 8, but he scored the seventh-most half-PPR fantasy points when we exclude those four weeks. While he was relatively inefficient (3.77 YPC), he had a four-game stretch late in year (Weeks 13-16) where he hauled in 26 of 31 targets for 174 yards. That said, it appears that the new Bears' coaching staff could potentially spread the touches around more than the previous regime.

Khalil Herbert: Herbert showed what he could do during Montgomery's four-game absence, as the rookie totaled 78 carries for 344 yards and a touchdown with nine receptions for 44 yards. Herbert was fantasy's RB16 over that stretch. Outside of that four-game span, however, Herbert never exceeded four carries or five touches. With a new coaching staff in place, the workload gap when both are healthy should be less than it was last year.

Darnell Mooney: Entering his third season as the team's clear No. 1 wide receiver, Mooney is coming off an 81/1,055/4 season in 2021 despite Chicago's passing game struggles overall. Depending on how much improvement we see from Justin Fields in his second season, there is plenty of upside with Mooney.

Cole Kmet: Kmet ranked top 12 in both targets (89, ninth) and receptions (60, 12th) amongst tight ends in 2021, but he finished the year with zero touchdowns. With a more competent offense in 2022 and better luck in the red zone, there is breakout potential for the third-year tight end.

Justin Fields: Perhaps the best thing we can say about Fields' rookie season is that he gets to reset in Year 2 and the new coaching staff should put Fields in more situations that play to his strengths. ESPN's Jeremy Fowler wrote, "I'm told the Bears are happy with Fields' development this offseason, with better mechanics (quicker release) and some improvement in throwing on the move. The Bears are excited for offensive coordinator Luke Getsy's system, which should give Fields more space to operate." Starting 10 games as a rookie, Fields ran more over his final five starts and finished as a top-10 weekly quarterback in four of those five starts. Lack of talent/support (offensive line and pass catchers) remains a concern that could impact his growth.

While it's clearly a downgrade going from Patrick Mahomes to Justin Fields, there will be less competition for targets in Chicago than Kansas City. While Pringle is currently dealing with a quad injury, he's expected to be back for the season opener.

Kansas City Chiefs Week 3 NFL Power Rankings Roundup

Throughout the 2021 NFL season, we will compile a consensus NFL Power Rankings that averages the rankings of all 32 NFL teams.

Here is where the Kansas City Chiefs rank in terms of average, best and worst:

ESPN -- Rank: 3

Fantasy surprise: WR Byron Pringle

What Pringle lacks in volume (three catches), he has made up for in impact (23-yard average per reception, including a 40-yard TD). Pringle is the steadiest of the Chiefs' wide receivers, not including Tyreek Hill. Pringle doesn't have the upside of Mecole Hardman or Demarcus Robinson but is a good route runner who is always where he is supposed to be and has reliable hands. -- Adam Teicher

As the Chiefs matriculated down the field in the final minutes of their Sunday night insta-classic against the Ravens, the only real drama seemed to be whether K.C. would go ahead on a Harrison Butker field goal or via some standard-issue greatness from Patrick Mahomes. Instead, Clyde Edwards-Helaire put the ball on the turf. The resulting turnover and ensuing failure of the defense to stop a fourth-and-1 Lamar Jackson carry at midfield sealed a crushing 36-35 loss. The game marked the first time the Chiefs were ever defeated in September with Mahomes under center.

CBS Sports -- Rank: 5

CHIEFS. The defense has to be better than what it showed against the Ravens in the second half. Even Patrick Mahomes can't rescue them from that all the time. Now they get Justin Herbert this week.

USA Today -- Rank: 3

They're not in first place in the AFC West for the first time in nearly five years ... but let's not overreact to one untimely Clyde Edwards-Helaire fumble.

The Athletic -- Rank: 3

It was jarring to watch Patrick Mahomes throw that interception while getting brought to the turf. And maybe the Chiefs should keep the ball in his hands when trying to set up a game-winning field goal. But is there a franchise that feels better about its quarterback than Kansas City? Mahomes has six touchdown passes and the one pick in two games. He's completed 76.1 percent of his passes. At times versus Cleveland and Baltimore, it looked like he could do whatever he wanted against the defense.

Patrick Mahomes: Mahomes is my top-ranked fantasy quarterback given the combination of elite skill set, supporting cast and coaching. The only real decision for fantasy managers is whether or not to invest the early draft capital necessary to secure Mahomes (or another high-end quarterback) as their starter. Leading the NFL with 316.0 passing yards per game, Mahomes was only a 260/2 game away from a second 5,000/40 season before the Chiefs rested him in Week 17.

Clyde Edwards-Helaire: Given how productive a third-round rookie (Kareem Hunt) had been in Andy Reid's offense just a few seasons ago (2017), Edwards-Helaire, the only first-round running back in the 2020 NFL Draft, was a relative disappointment despite a couple of big performances in the first half of last season. Even so, he has the skill set and draft pedigree to be much more productive in Kansas City's high-powered offense this season than he was as a rookie and could turn out to be a draft-day bargain.

Darrel Williams: Williams is a high-upside handcuff for Clyde Edwards-Helaire. If CEH were to miss any time, Williams would immediately become an RB2 in Kansas City's high-powered offense.

Tyreek Hill: Few players at any position have as much upside as Hill to erupt for a massive performance in any given week. Setting a career high in touchdowns (17), Hill had 87 receptions for 1,276 yards and 13 carries for 123 yards in 2020.

Mecole Hardman: Many fantasy managers expected Hardman to take a step forward in his sophomore campaign, but his year-over-year production was nearly identical -- 26/538/6 (20.7 Y/R) in 2019 and 41/560/4 (13.7 Y/R) in 2020. With Sammy Watkins now in Baltimore and no significant additions to the receiving corps, Hardman offers upside at his late-round ADP.

Demarcus Robinson: Given that Hardman has yet to deliver for fantasy managers, it wouldn't be the worst idea to throw a dart at Robinson or Byron Pringle with the last pick in your fantasy draft.

Kelce extended his 1,000-yard streak to five seasons and broke the single-season receiving yardage record (1,416) for tight ends in the process. In fact, he set career highs across the board (105/1,416/11) in his age-31 campaign. Kelce ended the regular season with eight consecutive games with at least seven catches.

Regardless of how you slice it, Kelce is not only the slam-dunk TE1 heading into 2021, but he's worth considering towards the end of Round 1.
