QUARTERBACKS

PlayerAtt.Comp.YardsTDINTRushYardsTDPoints
Baker Mayfield544.1338.73808.723.415.2347.9167.71.92243.78
Kyle Trask47.328.6326.41.841.668.720.90.2620.75

Baker Mayfield: After Tom Brady's (second) retirement, the Bucs find themselves in the unenviable position of having to start Mayfield, who beat out Kyle Trask but is on his fourth team in the past 18 months. The former No. 1 overall draft pick completed only 60% of his pass attempts in 2022 for 2,163 yards (6.5 Y/A), 10 touchdowns and eight interceptions over 12 games. While he's clearly undraftable in standard (one-QB) leagues, he downgrades the outlook for all of the team's pass catchers.

Sean Tucker53.5230.11.424.635.10.238.54

Rachaad White: Once the Buccaneers released Leonard Fournette, who is still a free agent, White immediately moved atop the team's 2023 depth chart. As a 2022 rookie, he had 129 carries for 481 yards (only 3.7 YPC) and a touchdown in addition to 50 receptions for 290 yards and two touchdowns. His best game as a runner (22/105) was coincidentally against the Seattle Seahawks and his new offensive coordinator Dave Canales, who was Seattle's quarterbacks coach last year.

Chase Edmonds: Playing for both the Dolphins and Broncos in 2022, it was a highly disappointing campaign for Edmonds. While he had only 16 catches last season, Edmonds will have a chance to bounce back in that category as he had a combined 96 catches in the previous two seasons.

WIDE RECEIVERS

PlayerRec.YardsTDRushYardsTDPoints
Chris Godwin80.8971.75.73.716.70.19174.58

Deven Thompkins24.8287.41.81.510.50.0653.35
Rakim Jarrett18210.91.300037.89

Chris Godwin: Godwin has missed multiple games in each of the past four seasons. While he set a career high in targets (142) and receptions (104) in 2022 and has reached the 1,000-yard mark in three of his past four seasons, he set a career low in Y/R (9.8) and his three touchdowns were a non-rookie career low. The downgrade at quarterback from Tom Brady to Baker Mayfield will impact Godwin, Mike Evans and the team's passing offense overall.

Mike Evans: Evans extended his 1,000-yard streak to his first nine NFL seasons, which beat his own record in 2022. While the targets (127), receptions (77), yards (1,124) and Y/R (14.6) all look good, he had only six touchdowns, a five-year low, and he wasn't consistent throughout the season. A monster Week 17 game (20/207/3) against Carolina ended an 11-game scoring drought (Weeks 5-16). Evans exceeded 59 yards only once from Weeks 9-16. Even if he extends his 1,000-yard streak, there could be plenty of ups and downs throughout the course of the season given the quarterback downgrade.

Trey Palmer: Russell Gage is out for the season, and Palmer is in the mix to be the team's WR3. Especially in a less-potent 2023 Buccaneers offense, the third receiver likely won't be fantasy-relevant outside of deep leagues, but Palmer (or Deven Thompkins or Rakim Jarrett) will at least be a name to monitor.

Cade Otton: Otton had 42 catches for 391 yards and two touchdowns on 65 targets as a rookie in 2022 and he had four catches for 58 yards on seven targets in their playoff loss to the Cowboys. Even if his numbers are better in his second season, he's not much more than a fantasy TE2 in 2023.

Even though Tampa hasn't officially named the starter, it's likely going to be Mayfield, who is on his fourth team in the past 18 months. Blaine Gabbert4729.1317.31.531.4111.511.50.1217.86

Tom Brady: Brady retired, then unretired and took some time off during camp, but he's back for his age-45 season. He led the NFL in pass attempts (719), passing yards (5,316) and touchdowns (43) last season. Not only did he throw for a career-high 5,316 yards in the NFL's first 17-game season, but his per-game average (312.7 yards) was the second best of his NFL career. In an era where dual-threat quarterbacks dominate the top 10, Brady still finished as a top-three fantasy quarterback in 2021.

RUNNING BACKS

PlayerAtt.YardsTDRec.YardsTDPoints

Giovani Bernard29.2124.10.5819.9147.10.845.35

Leonard Fournette: Fournette missed three games in 2021, but he more than doubled up Ronald Jones II in touches (249 to 111), scrimmage yards (1,266 to 492) and touchdowns (10 to four). With Jones now in Kansas City, there is an opportunity for Fournette to handle an even larger share of the workload in 2022. Fournette finished last season as fantasy's RB7 in half-PPR formats (and top 11 across all scoring formats).

Jaelon Darden2.2270.20005

Mike Evans: Evans has started his career with eight consecutive 1,000-yard seasons. Barring injury, he's a near lock to extend that streak in 2022. In his two seasons with Tom Brady, Evans has a total of 27 touchdowns with the two highest seasonal totals (13 and 14, respectively) of his career.

Chris Godwin: Godwin missed the final three games of the season after tearing his ACL, but he still finished with 98 catches for 1,103 yards and five touchdowns in only 14 games. Nobody (apparently Godwin included) knows if he'll be ready for Week 1 against the Cowboys, but the veteran wideout often slips further than I'd expect in drafts.

Julio Jones: Joining the Bucs on a one-year deal, Jones is coming off the worst statistical season (43.4 YPG and one touchdown over 10 games) of his career. Before last season, Jones had never averaged less than 73.8 YPG (his 2011 rookie numbers). A return to his Atlanta-level production would be unrealistic, but he should improve upon last year's career-low numbers as a part of Tampa's prolific passing offense.

Russell Gage: In his final two seasons in Atlanta, Gage posted consistent numbers -- 72/786/4 and 66/770/4, respectively. Although Gage will be third (or fourth) in line for targets behind Evans and Godwin (and possibly Jones), Tom Brady threw a league-high 719 pass attempts last season.

Cameron Brate: With Rob Gronkowski (55/802/6 in 2021) retiring, Brate tops the tight end depth chart even though the Bucs signed Kyle Rudolph and drafted Cade Otton. Brate had a pair of top-10 fantasy finishes in 2016 (57/660/8) and 2017 (48/591/6) at a point in his career with greater opportunity, and there's a good chance that he outperforms his current ADP.

Fantasy Football Half-PPR Mock Draft 2022: 12 Teams, 2nd Pick

The best way to become good at something is to practice. So, what should you do if you want to draft a better fantasy football team?

Practice, of course!

Leading up to the start of the 2022 NFL season, we will use the 2022 Fantasy Football Mock Draft Simulator (powered by FantasyPros) to complete fantasy football mock drafts.

We will use a variety of scoring formats -- PPR, half-PPR, standard scoring and even 2-QB leagues, league sizes and draft slots. The goal is to give you a good representation of the team that you may be able to construct given your league settings and the rationale of why we made the picks we did.

> Our mocks will be tracked here: Fantasy Football Mock Drafts.

That said, nothing beats practicing yourself so (check out the simulator) and complete a mock in a matter of minutes.

Half-PPR Mock Draft: 12 Teams, 2nd Pick

1.02 - Christian McCaffrey, RB, Carolina Panthers

McCaffrey has played just 10 games over the past two seasons combined. In those 10 games, he has averaged 115.9 scrimmage yards, 5.4 receptions and 0.8 touchdowns per game. Before that, CMC led the NFL in scrimmage yards (2,392), touchdowns (19) and touches (403) in 2019 and became the third player in NFL history to reach the 1,000-yard rushing and receiving milestones in the same season. If his health cooperates, he has as high of a ceiling and floor as any running back.

2.11 - Tyreek Hill, WR, Miami Dolphins

Tua Tagovailoa is a winner following Hill's trade to Miami, but that's not the case for Hill given the quarterback downgrade from Patrick Mahomes. Hill set a career high in receptions (111) last year and a non-rookie low in Y/R (11.2). In this mock draft, Hill is the WR9.

3.02 - Cam Akers, RB, Los Angeles Rams

Closing his rookie 2020 campaign with 94 touches for 436 yards from scrimmage over his final four games, Akers was poised to enter 2021 as the team's featured back before an Achilles injury forced him to miss nearly all of last season. Provided his health cooperates, Akers has tremendous upside as the lead back in one of the league's most potent offenses.

4.11 - Brandin Cooks, WR, Houston Texans

Cooks has eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark in back-to-back seasons and six of the past seven. In addition, he has finished as a top-20 fantasy receiver in six of the past seven seasons. As the team's clear go-to receiver, he'll be a reliable WR2 for fantasy managers in 2022.

5.02 - Chris Godwin, WR, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Godwin missed the final three games of the season after tearing his ACL, but he still finished with 98 catches for 1,103 yards and five touchdowns in only 14 games. While it's not definitive that he'll be ready for Week 1, there has been some optimism that he could be on the field in Dallas for Week 1.

6.11 - Miles Sanders, RB, Philadelphia Eagles

Sanders has missed at least four games in back-to-back seasons, but he's averaged 5.4 yards per carry on the 301 rush attempts he's handled over that span. There is plenty of upside with Sanders at the end of Round 6.

7.02 - T.J. Hockenson, TE, Detroit Lions

Hockenson missed five games last season, but he set per-game career highs in receptions (5.1) and yards (48.6) as well as catch rate (72.6%). Given the additions to the receiving corps (D.J. Chark and Jameson Williams), it's likely that Jared Goff won't rely as heavily on Hockenson this year, but he was my top-ranked TE available at this point.

8.11 - Tom Brady, QB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Brady retired, then unretired, after leading the NFL in pass attempts (719), passing yards (5,316) and touchdowns (43) in his age-44 season. Not only did he throw for a career-high 5,316 yards in the NFL's first 17-game season, but his per-game average (312.7 yards) was the second best of his NFL career. Even though his rushing production is minimal in this era of dual-threat quarterbacks, his prolific passing stats propelled him to fantasy's QB3 in 2021 and he remains a viable QB1 at 45 years old (in August).

9.02 - Chase Claypool, WR, Pittsburgh Steelers

Claypool's targets, receptions and yards were nearly identical in his first two seasons. What wasn't nearly identical were the touchdowns. Claypool scored 11 times, counting two rushing scores, as a rookie, but only twice in 2021. Given his elite height, weight and speed profile, a regression to the mean in touchdown performance is likely.

10.11 - Jakobi Meyers, WR, New England Patriots

The good news is that Meyers finally scored a touchdown, actually two of them, to go along with 126 targets, 83 catches and 866 yards in 2021. Even with the Patriots trading for DeVante Parker, there's a decent chance that Meyers will lead the team in target share, receptions and yards, but the lack of scoring gives him little upside.

11.02 - Raheem Mostert, RB, Miami Dolphins

Mostert follows Mike McDaniel from San Francisco and has made the most of his opportunities, when healthy. The problem, of course, is that durability has often eluded him. Mostert missed almost all of 2021 with a knee injury and played just eight games in 2020. If he's able to stay healthy for (close to) a full season, he should outperform his ADP.

12.11 - Tyler Allgeier, RB, Atlanta Falcons

The draft pedigree (fifth round) doesn't scream featured back, but he has the frame (5'11", 224 pounds), power and vision to shoulder a heavy workload. A former linebacker (26 tackles in 2019 at BYU) as well, Allgeier was highly productive over the past two seasons with 2,731 rushing yards and 36 touchdowns over that stretch.

13.02 - Khalil Herbert, RB, Chicago Bears

Herbert showed what he could do during Montgomery's four-game absence, as the rookie totaled 78 carries for 344 yards and a touchdown with nine receptions for 44 yards. Herbert was fantasy's RB16 over that stretch. Outside of that four-game span, however, Herbert never exceeded four carries or five touches.

14.11 - 49ers DST, San Francisco 49ers

15.02 - Chuba Hubbard, RB, Carolina Panthers

CMC is elite when he's on the field, but he's missed the majority of the past two seasons. Hubbard provides some insurance in the event of another McCaffrey injury.

16.11 - Younghoe Koo, K, Atlanta Falcons

Fournette finished last season as fantasy's RB7 in half-PPR formats (and top 11 across all scoring formats).

While it's not definitive that he'll be ready for Week 1, there has been some optimism that he could be on the field in Dallas for Week 1.

Russell Gage: In his final two seasons in Atlanta, Gage posted consistent numbers -- 72/786/4 and 66/770/4, respectively. Although Gage will be third in line for targets behind Evans and Godwin, Tom Brady threw a league-high 719 pass attempts last season, so there's plenty to go around, especially if Rob Gronkowski stays retired.

Cameron Brate: With Rob Gronkowski (55/802/6 in 2021) retiring and O.J. Howard (14/135/1) in Buffalo, Brate moves atop the tight end depth chart. Brate had a pair of top-10 fantasy finishes in 2016 (57/660/8) and 2017 (48/591/6) at a point in his career with greater opportunity, and there's a good chance that he exceeds his current ADP.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers Week 17 NFL Power Rankings Roundup

Throughout the 2021 NFL season, we will compile a consensus NFL Power Rankings that averages the rankings of all 32 NFL teams.

Here is where the Tampa Bay Buccaneers rank in terms of average, best and worst:

  • Average ranking: 4 (4th)
  • Best ranking: 3 (USA Today)
  • Worst ranking: 5 (CBS Sports)

Below you will find a Week 17 roundup for the Bucs in our consensus 2021 NFL Power Rankings.

ESPN -- Rank: 4

Non-QB MVP: WR Chris Godwin

Godwin is on injured reserve now, but he was two catches shy of 100 receptions, and he still managed to gain 1,103 receiving yards in 14 games when he did play. He was quarterback Tom Brady's most reliable target, with a 77.2% catch percentage. Furthermore, Godwin showed just how versatile he was as a downfield blocker. "He's such a huge contributor on the field, but off the field too in his leadership, clutch plays," Brady said. "There's no way to replace him." -- Jenna Laine

NFL.com -- Rank: 4

A T-shirt-and-hat game is a nice way to lift the spirits of an ailing squad, as the Bucs trounced the Panthers to clinch their first NFC South title since 2007. It was an optimal outcome for a team missing Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, Leonard Fournette, Lavonte David, Jason Pierre-Paul and Antoine Winfield Jr. due to injuries and COVID-19 designations. Tom Brady got by with help from Antonio Brown, who returned after missing nine weeks and paced all receivers with 10 catches for 101 yards on a whopping 15 targets. Brown is a difficult guy to root for, but the Bucs appear willing to live with his off-the-field transgressions if he remains an impact playmaker -- especially in their shorthanded state.

CBS Sports -- Rank: 5

With his top two weapons out, Tom Brady turned to Antonio Brown to pick up the slack and he responded. They are playing for seeding now.

USA Today -- Rank: 3

In less than two seasons in Tampa Bay, Tom Brady has led the Bucs to consecutive 11-win seasons for the first time in franchise history and is only four TD passes from second place on the club's career list. For an encore, maybe he'll also become their first two-time Super Bowl-winning QB.

The Athletic -- Rank: 4

Is he The Guy? Yes. It's not too late for Tom Brady to make an MVP push, and even at age 44, he's showing no signs of regression. Brady is on pace to set a career high in average yards per game and likely will finish the season with his second-highest touchdown total of his long career. He has 37, three shy of the 40 he threw last year. His career best is 50, from his historic 2007 season.

Fantasy Football Projections 2021: Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Our 2021 Fantasy Football Projections will be viewable by both position and team.

Below you will find our 2021 fantasy football projections for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

QUARTERBACKS

Blaine Gabbert35.920.6244.11.510.910.418.20.0516.12

Tom Brady: In his first season in Tampa, Brady scored the eighth-most fantasy points and only three quarterbacks had more top-five weekly finishes than the future Hall-of-Famer. Brady's 40 touchdowns thrown were the second-most of his career and his 4,633 passing yards were a five-year high. Brady will have all of the team's starters and top pass-catchers back as he enters his age-44 season.

RUNNING BACKS

Giovani Bernard41.4163.50.8343.9345.23.397.6
Ke'Shawn Vaughn8.334.90.172.317.30.17.99

Leonard Fournette: The Buccaneers leaned on Playoff Lenny in their Super Bowl run as Fournette tallied 448 scrimmage yards and four all-purpose touchdowns on 82 touches including 18 receptions over four playoff games. With the addition of Giovani Bernard to the backfield, Fournette enters the season no better than a flex option that will split early-down reps with Ronald Jones.

Ronald Jones: Despite missing a couple of games and with Fournette emerging as the team's primary back, Jones had his best season as a pro with career highs as a runner -- 192 carries, 978 yards, 5.1 YPC and seven touchdowns. RoJo took a step back as a receiver, however, with a 66.7% catch rate (77.5% in 2019) and 5.9 Y/R (10.0 in 2019). Unfortunately, Jones will be part of a three-back RBBC in 2021 compared to last year's timeshare with Fournette.

Giovani Bernard: Signed in part due to Tampa's woeful 14.4% drop rate by their running backs, Bernard is locked into the third-down running back role. While we've seen how productive a third-down back (James White) can be with Tom Brady under center, Bernard may deflate the outlook for the team's other backs more than any other fantasy impact.

Mike Evans: Although he set a career low in yards per game (62.9), Evans exceeded the 1,000-yard mark -- now seven consecutive seasons to begin his career -- and set a career high with 13 scores. The Bucs have franchise tagged Chris Godwin and re-signed Antonio Brown, which could lead to continued week-to-week inconsistency for all of the team's receivers.

Chris Godwin: Godwin finished a disappointing 2020 campaign with a receiving line of 65/840/7 as he averaged 25.2 fewer yards per game than in 2019. An assortment of injuries (four missed games) and the presence of Antonio Brown (7.75 targets per game) interfered with Godwin's consistency last season. In fact, Godwin ranked third on the team in targets (55) over the final eight games behind both Evans (63) and Brown (62).

Antonio Brown: Brown posted a respectable 45/483/4 half-season line on 61 targets in 2020. For Brown to emerge as a weekly starter (top-36 fantasy receiver), however, it may take an injury to either Evans or Godwin.

O.J. Howard34.6453.73.400083.07
Cameron Brate12.2130.71.100025.77

Rob Gronkowski: Not there to just "block," Gronkowski didn't score his first touchdown until Week 6, but he finished 2020 as fantasy's TE8 and ended the year with 45 catches for 623 yards and seven touchdowns. Returning from a torn Achilles he suffered in Week 4, O.J. Howard limits Gronk's ceiling. In fact, Howard (11/146/2 on 19 targets) was more productive than Gronkowski (9/88/0 on 14 targets) when both were active.

O.J. Howard: Through four NFL seasons, Howard has averaged an impressive 15.3 Y/R and 10.1 Y/TGT. With so many talented options on the roster, however, there is unlikely to be enough volume for Howard to post consistently useful production.
