Baker Mayfield: After Tom Brady's (second) retirement, the Bucs find themselves in the unenviable position of having to choose between Baker Mayfield and Kyle Trask. Even though Tampa hasn't officially named the starter, it's likely going to be Mayfield, who is on his fourth team in the past 18 months. Mayfield completed 60% of his pass attempts in 2022 for 2,163 yards (6.5 Y/A), 10 touchdowns and eight interceptions over 12 games.

Rachaad White: With the Buccaneers releasing Leonard Fournette, who is still a free agent, White enters 2023 atop the team's depth chart. As a 2022 rookie, he had 129 carries for 481 yards (only 3.7 YPC) and a touchdown in addition to 50 receptions for 290 yards and two touchdowns. His best game as a runner (22/105) was against the Seattle Seahawks and his new offensive coordinator Dave Canales, who was Seattle's quarterbacks coach last year.

Chris Godwin: Godwin has missed multiple games in each of the past four seasons. While he set a career high in targets (142) and receptions (104) in 2022 and has reached the 1,000-yard mark in three of his past four seasons, he set a career low in Y/R (9.8) and his three touchdowns were a non-rookie career low. The downgrade at quarterback from Tom Brady to Baker Mayfield (or Kyle Trask) will impact Godwin, Mike Evans and the team's passing offense overall.

Mike Evans: Evans extended his 1,000-yard streak to his first nine NFL seasons, which beat his own record in 2022. While the targets (127), receptions (77), yards (1,124) and Y/R (14.6) all look good, he had only six touchdowns, a five-year low, and he wasn't consistent throughout the season. A monster Week 17 game (20/207/3) against Carolina ended an 11-game scoring drought (Weeks 5-16). Evans exceeded 59 yards only once from Weeks 9-16. Even if he extends his 1,000-yard streak, there could be plenty of ups and downs throughout the course of the season given the quarterback downgrade.

Cade Otton: Otton had 42 catches for 391 yards and two touchdowns on 65 targets as a rookie in 2022 and he had four catches for 58 yards on seven targets in their playoff loss to the Cowboys. Even if his numbers are better in his second season, he's not much more than a fantasy TE2 in 2023.

Tom Brady: Brady retired, then unretired and took some time off during camp, but he's back for his age-45 season. He led the NFL in pass attempts (719), passing yards (5,316) and touchdowns (43) last season. Not only did he throw for a career-high 5,316 yards in the NFL's first 17-game season, but his per-game average (312.7 yards) was the second best of his NFL career. In an era where dual-threat quarterbacks dominate the top 10, Brady still finished as a top-three fantasy quarterback in 2021.

With Jones now in Kansas City, there is an opportunity for Fournette to handle an even larger share of the workload in 2022. Fournette finished last season as fantasy's RB7 in half-PPR formats (and top 11 across all scoring formats).

Mike Evans: Evans has started his career with eight consecutive 1,000-yard seasons. Barring injury, he's a near lock to extend that streak in 2022. In his two seasons with Tom Brady, Evans has a total of 27 touchdowns with the two highest seasonal totals (13 and 14, respectively) of his career.

Chris Godwin: Godwin missed the final three games of the season after tearing his ACL, but he still finished with 98 catches for 1,103 yards and five touchdowns in only 14 games. Nobody (apparently Godwin included) knows if he'll be ready for Week 1 against the Cowboys, but the veteran wideout often slips further than I'd expect in drafts.

Julio Jones: Joining the Bucs on a one-year deal, Jones is coming off the worst statistical season (43.4 YPG and one touchdown over 10 games) of his career. Before last season, Jones had never averaged less than 73.8 YPG (his 2011 rookie numbers). A return to his Atlanta-level production would be unrealistic, but he should improve upon last year's career-low numbers as a part of Tampa's prolific passing offense.

Russell Gage: In his final two seasons in Atlanta, Gage posted consistent numbers -- 72/786/4 and 66/770/4, respectively. Although Gage will be third (or fourth) in line for targets behind Evans and Godwin (and possibly Jones), Tom Brady threw a league-high 719 pass attempts last season.

Brate had a pair of top-10 fantasy finishes in 2016 (57/660/8) and 2017 (48/591/6) at a point in his career with greater opportunity, and there's a good chance that he outperforms his current ADP.

Matt Ryan: There are a number of offseason changes that will impact Ryan's 2021 fantasy outlook -- new coaching staff, drafting Kyle Pitts, trading away Julio Jones, etc. While Arthur Smith may prefer to operate a run-first offense, personnel and game script may dictate a less run-heavy offense than some may otherwise expect. Even with a 17th regular-season game added to the schedule, Ryan's streak of three consecutive seasons with at least 608 pass attempts could come to an end in 2021.

Mike Davis: Filling in for a mostly-injured Christian McCaffrey in 2020, Davis performed as a top-15 (half-PPR) fantasy running back last season. Relatively limited competition for running back touches makes Davis a back-end RB2 or high-end flex option in 2021 with Arthur Smith taking over as Atlanta's head coach. That said, Wayne Gallman poses a much bigger threat to Davis' workload than Qadree Ollison did before him.

Wayne Gallman: The odd man out in San Francisco, Gallman lands in a spot that makes him an ideal late-round sleeper. With Saquon Barkley lost for most of the season, Gallman finished 2020 as a top-33 back with 147/682/6 rushing (4.6 YPC) and 21/114/0 receiving. It may not be the most likely of scenarios, but Gallman leading Atlanta's backs in fantasy production is not exactly the longest of long shots either.

Calvin Ridley: Ridley closed the season the same way he started it -- with 100-plus yards in four of five games. Along with Davante Adams (six) and Stefon Diggs (three), Ridley was one of three receivers to finish as a top-two weekly fantasy receiver at least three times in 2020. Ridley finished last season with 90 catches on 143 targets for 1,374 yards and nine touchdowns and is a top-four fantasy wide receiver in 2021 with Julio Jones in Tennessee.

Russell Gage: With the Falcons trading Julio Jones to Tennessee, Gage should rank second or third on the team in receiving behind Calvin Ridley and possibly/likely rookie Kyle Pitts in 2021. Gage set career highs across the board in 2020 with 72 catches, 110 targets, 786 yards and four touchdowns.

Kyle Pitts: It's typically a difficult transition to the NFL for rookie tight ends, but Pitts isn't the typical tight end. The definition of a mismatch player in the mold of Darren Waller, Pitts has the potential to develop into fantasy's overall TE1 within a couple of years. The John Mackey Award winner, Pitts won't turn 21 until October, runs like a receiver (4.44 forty) and no pass-catcher over the past 20 drafts has had a larger wingspan.

Hayden Hurst: Hurst performed as the TE9 in half-PPR/PPR formats and the TE11 in non-PPR formats as he set career highs in targets (88), receptions (56), yards (571) and touchdowns (six) in year one in Atlanta. Unfortunately for fantasy managers, his weekly performance was inconsistent as he had five games with single-digit receiving yards. Matt Ryan: There are a number of offseason changes that will impact Ryan's 2021 fantasy outlook -- new coaching staff, drafting Kyle Pitts, trading away Julio Jones, etc. While Arthur Smith may prefer to operate a run-first offense, personnel and game script may dictate a less run-heavy offense than some may otherwise expect. Even with a 17th regular-season game added to the schedule, Ryan's streak of three consecutive seasons with at least 608 pass attempts will likely come to an end in 2021.

Along with Davante Adams (six) and Stefon Diggs (three), Ridley was one of three receivers to finish as a top-two weekly fantasy receiver at least three times in 2020. Ridley finished last season with 90 catches on 143 targets for 1,374 yards and nine touchdowns and is a top-four fantasy wide receiver in 2021 with Julio Jones in Tennessee.

Russell Gage: With the Falcons trading Julio Jones to Tennessee, Gage should rank second or third on the team in receiving behind Calvin Ridley and possibly rookie Kyle Pitts in 2021. Gage set career highs across the board in 2020 with 72 catches, 110 targets, 786 yards and four touchdowns.

Hayden Hurst: Hurst performed as the TE9 in half-PPR/PPR formats and the TE11 in non-PPR formats as he set career highs in targets (88), receptions (56), yards (571) and touchdowns (six) in year one in Atlanta. Unfortunately for fantasy managers, his weekly performance was inconsistent as he had five games with single-digit receiving yards. Matt Ryan: Coming out of the draft, it was good news for Ryan that the Falcons used their top-four pick on the most dangerous playmaker in the draft instead of selecting his future replacement. The bad news coming out of the draft were reports that the team would trade Julio Jones, who was recently traded to the Titans.

Week 16 Fantasy Football WR Waiver-Wire Rankings

Every week, we examine players that may be available on your league's waiver wire that could help your team in the short and/or long term.

With this being Championship Week (in most fantasy leagues), our focus with this week's waiver-wire column will be Week 16.

For a player to be listed, he must be owned in 50 percent (or less) of Yahoo! leagues. The goal is to provide recommendations of players that have a greater chance of being available on your league's waiver wire. Of course, your league's size and settings could significantly impact whether these players (or better options) are available in your particular league(s).

Because of our self-imposed rule, we won't list New Orleans Saints wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders below. With Michael Thomas put on IR and out for the rest of the regular season, Sanders (rostered in 56% of Yahoo! leagues) will be in the WR3 range the rest of the way.

Even though Drew Brees struggled returning from his ribs' injury, Sanders had four catches for 76 yards on five targets against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 15. The Chiefs have allowed the second-fewest fantasy points to opposing wide receivers this season, but Sanders and the Saints get a more favorable Week 16 matchup against the Minnesota Vikings, who have allowed the fifth-most.

With that said, here are some wide receiver waiver-wire options to consider heading into Week 16 (Yahoo! % rostered in parenthesis):

1. Russell Gage, Atlanta Falcons (24%)

Not only was Julio Jones (hamstring) out in Week 15, but it would be reasonable to expect the Falcons to shut him down for the rest of this (lost) season. Of course, that's not something that Jones wants to happen.

With Jones sidelined, Gage had five catches for 68 yards and a touchdown on 10 targets against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Gage has a minimum of four catches and 50 yards in four of his past five games. During that span, he has a total of 24 receptions for 293 yards and two (receiving) touchdowns on 42 targets.

As the Falcons get ready to face Patrick Mahomes and the high-powered Chiefs' offense, the matchup for Gage (and Calvin Ridley and Jones, if he returns) is not favorable. Only the Los Angeles Rams are stingier to opposing fantasy wide receivers. That said, Matt Ryan and the Falcons will be forced into catchup mode early and Gage should get in the range of 8-10 targets if Jones is out again.

2. Rashard Higgins, Cleveland Browns (25%)

Higgins had another solid performance in Week 15 as he had four catches for 76 yards on five targets against the New York Giants on Sunday Night Football. Higgins now has at least four catches and 68 yards in three consecutive games. Only 12 wide receivers have scored more fantasy points than Higgins over that period.

Perhaps Higgins won't keep his hot streak going (and Jarvis Landry remains the preferred Browns receiver), but the matchup sets Higgins up for another strong outing. The New York Jets have allowed the seventh-most fantasy points to opposing wide receivers this season.

3. Keke Coutee, Houston Texans (41%)

More involved this week (seven targets) than last week (three), Coutee had five catches for 53 yards and a score against the Indianapolis Colts. A potential second score (instead of a lost fumble) could have led to an even bigger day, but Coutee is the weekly WR26 heading into Monday Night Football.

For those in deeper leagues, teammate Chad Hansen could be worth a look as well. Although he was targeted only three times, Hansen had two catches for 55 yards and a score and now has three consecutive games with at least 55 receiving yards.

4. Jakobi Meyers, New England Patriots (31%)

To the extent that you'd want any part of New England's passing attack, you'd want Meyers. During an earlier stretch of the season, Meyers was producing in spite of the passing offense's overall level of mediocrity.

From Weeks 7 to 10, Meyers had a minimum of four catches, six targets and 58 yards in all four games. During that four-game span, he had 27 receptions for 346 yards on 37 targets. Even without scoring a touchdown, Meyers was the WR12 (half-PPR scoring) during that stretch.

In Week 15 against the Miami Dolphins, Meyers had his second-best receiving performance of the season with seven catches for 111 yards on 10 targets. While he lost a fumble as well, Meyers enters Monday Night Football as fantasy's WR24 on the week.

5. Allen Lazard, Green Bay Packers (32%)

Aaron Rodgers is having an MVP-caliber season and leads the NFL in passing touchdowns (40). Since returning from injury in Week 11, Lazard has become a TD-dependent WR3, but he had a five-week high in receptions (five) and yards (56) in Week 15 against the Carolina Panthers.

Meanwhile, the very boom-or-bust Marquez Valdes-Scantling had a goose egg on one target. It was his second zero-catch outing over the past three weeks. With the Tennessee Titans allowing the third-most fantasy points to opposing receivers, Lazard has some upside if the the Titans sell out to slow down Davante Adams.

6. Jalen Reagor, Philadelphia Eagles (21%)

Reagor set season highs in receptions (five) and targets (eight) in Week 15 against the Arizona Cardinals although the first-round rookie left the game with an ankle injury. With Jalen Hurts giving the Eagles offense some life, Reagor could find himself in the WR3/WR4 mix with a matchup against the Dallas Cowboys. The Cowboys have allowed the fourth-most fantasy points to opposing wide receivers this season.
